What came first.....
So we all know the riddle of what came first, the chicken or the egg??
Well it was the dinosaurs, but enough about that. The real question should be, where did chickens come from??? I mean, I cant remember seeing a nature program documenting the wild behaviour of a flock of chickens walking south for the winter…lets face it, someone would of seen them crossing all them roads ;) Looking around the farm yard, we all know that pigs come from wild boars, goats are still found hiding up mountains, cows are some of relation of wildebeest or bison and then we come to sheep….. Where the hell did sheep come from??? A big fluffy white jumper isn’t the easiest thing to hide in a field/wood/forest/jungle/ocean/sky…well sky yes, but its when pigs fly, not sheep, so them pigs better get them jumpers off them sheep and get flying. If it wasn’t for farms I think it’s safe to say chickens and sheep would of gone the same way as the dodo… So come on then, tell me where did chicken and sheep come from??? |

Well it's simple- some clouds fell out of the sky and you got sheep. As for chickens I think a caveman painted a rock white, did a little spell, sat on it and bam. Chickens!!! Then another guy started copying him but didn't have white paint, he had brown :)

I thought chickens actually evolved from dinosaurs, or at least dinosaurs were the chicken's super-old ancestors (the two-legged ones, anyway, like the T-Rex). Iono about sheep, though. I thought they were related to the goat and other similar hooved creatures.

Are you looking for a humorous response or a serious yet simple (not writing out the long answer) outline of the evolutionary biology of chicken and sheep kind of thing?

That reminds me of a joke....
A chicken and an egg are lying in bed smoking, and the chicken says..."Well, that settles that question then......"

Chickens evolved from pillows and sheep from blankets. Everyone has (or should have) an animal in their bed.

lmao @ this thread!
I thought that sheep were goats which were domesticated a few million years ago, and then 'artificially' evolved into sheep through managed breeding etc. Chickens.. hmm.. they are a bit weird, aren't they? And turkeys, come to that - what the heck?

One great evolutionary biologist said once about rabbits and chickens:

Origin: wild bird, native to the Americas... still wild in many places.
Want to come here and kill one for dinner? It can be arranged, there are a few just down the road from my house. Or, you could come and visit and I will get you one from the store... lol |

I thought sheep were like goats but had a thick coat due to them usually living in the hills. As for chickens, they were created by Colonel Sanders in his underground laboratory so he could deep fry them and sell them for money.

Chickens make awesome pets. Cleaning up is a problem but otherwise, lovely animals.
