Crazy sound madness

Sometimes when I'm on iSketch the sound does some weird thing where it keeps repeating for ages. e.g. a hug sound gets repeated over and over again, and all the types of sound (timer sound, "time's up" sound etc) eventually overlap to form some awful noise. This only happens with iSketch and is solved just by closing the browser and opening a new one.

I use IE, as my firefox has tantrums with iSketch. Anyone have an idea of what's going on? I can't think of any factors which distinguish between times when it has and hasn't happened; it seems random.

I can't help you, but I can't believe that people actually have their sounds on!
The only sounds I use are for invites, PMs, boots and 'OI! WAKE UP! DRAWING TIME!'

Dinnae has the right idea NoHints, play around with the settings on isketch, turn on and off different sounds to see if it stops. I generally don't have the endgame celebration, or join/exit message sounds on. Never had any issues like that.

OK, thanks everyone. It's not that big an issue as it doesn't happen that often - just thought I may as well fix it if i could. I'll keep my sounds on though cos I like it that way

This happens to me occasionally and I find that the only way to stop it is to do as you already doing NH. I like the sounds on. I wonder how many people like them on and how many people dont?

Problem is, Firefox freezes ridiculously often when I use it for iSketch, only lasts a couple of games usually.

I always have the sound on in anticipation of red letters and the sound of someone being 'escorted' back to the lobby.
I also use IE and find that whenever I'm playing iTunes and iSketch at the same time, the iSketch sounds repeat over and over even though I never have a problem viewing other sites while playing iSketch.

the only thing i have ever found to solve the sound looping issue i.e. ticking forever is to close the window or tab that isketch is in and open a new one.. although you could just turn the volume way down on your computer if you're in the middle of a good game and you don't feel like losing

Could that be a limited RAM issue? Someone else was going through the same issue, and as soon as she got more RAM.. problemo sorted.

lol, which reminds me of someone else who is running on very little RAM, and when she's on isketch and I happen to send her links through msn or isketch, it kicks her off sketchy.. haa! XD (sorry, hun! I'm just baaad luck!)

Hmm, sorry that was no better. It is quite interesting how browser problems differ on each type of computer/OS. I use Safari for isketch, but I know a mac user who uses Opera for it because Safari has a few problems. Whereas for me, Opera creates problems, just like Firefox does.

I guess the only thing to do is to make sure you do IE updates, and to keep clearing out the cache, etc. I like the sounds as well. I don't think I can play isketch without them. *sigh*

*Bad_MaNneR$gives a fulminating round of applause (no kilt hiking down here) for the dull, yet smart thud of a boot to the arse - especially when accompanied by a snappy coment from a UC Room Operator. Which is even more pleasing when the headphones have been unplugged and he is playing in full surround sound with extra bass.

I generally only get this problem on the laptop - which is running Vista, 2Gb RAM with an Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5600 (1.83GHz, 667MHz FSB, 2MB Cache) so the processor is still a wee bit slower to respond than the desktop, which is running XP, 1Gb RAM and a faster processor (Intel® Pentium® 4 that runs at 3.0 GHz).

So maybe it's not a RAM issue, but a processor issue?

I used to have the problem of sounds sometimes continuing Ad Infinitum, years ago.

I think updating my sound card Drivers helped.

If you do a manual Windows/Microsoft Update, select Custom, and look at the 'Software, Optional' & 'Hardware Optional' sections after it's finished scanning, you will probably see a load of updates your PC can install, including, hopefully, some better sound drivers. However, many sound cards aren't included in this, so you have to go to the website of the manufacturer of your sound card...

Automatic update, doesn't install 'Optional' bits, so it's worthwhile running a manual update every so often, to see what's available.

:-)
