Where do you live, and where would you rather live?

Don't worry, I don't want specific addresses (but bank details are welcomed ;))

We don't yet have a thread like this (I don't think) so I thought I'd start one up to see where the lot of us are from. You don't have to give specific details, maybe just the country and town/city, if you like. Could be fun.. in the sense that someone might be much closer to you than you think :P (good for meets, maybe?) And you can state where you'd rather live - if you would want to move!

So.. to start off..

I'm in London, England.

Where would I rather live? (anywhere but here..) Umm.. top of the list at the moment is Wales :) <3

Oooo... nice thread! Well, as you can see from my profile - I live in Kent, which is fondly known as the Garden of England. Sadly, I let down the rest of Kent as I am not in the least bit green fingered

The places where I would prefer to live would have to be either Scotland or Australia. Scotland primarily as it is a beautiful country and my hubby is from there - Australia so that I can be near my sister (as I miss her and my nephews so much )

Aww, TF. I'd rather be as far away from Nerdy as possible

I live in London (on the same road as nerdy even though she is married now!) and I'd rather live in the countryside. Somewhere open, green and very quiet. I've not really given it much thought about what country I'd like to live in but yeah, countryside ideally. On the other hand I do love nice big American houses but I wouldn't like to live in America :p

AJ.. you can move here... nice and quiet and all the green that you want and almost no one with which to bump elbows.

I live in the absolute middle of nowhere... the kind of place where people drive through hoping and praying they make it somewhere fast!

I would love to live in the mountains.. any of the Rockies would be lovely. Another choice would be Alaska. Definitely no where near a city!

I live in Massachusetts, in the U.S. of course. I like it around here but I've always wanted to live in England or Netherlands for their football :P

Most people around here don't take football (soccer) seriously which angers me. I'd like to see some real professional football games =]

I live in London. I moved here when I was 5 years old. I would like to go back to the Philippines to see my family, but I'm not sure if I'd like to live there. My country has a lot of poverty and crime problems. I'm happy in London but if I had to choose somewhere else.. I'd probably choose Norway. What can I say, despite my home country being close to the equator.. I'm fond of cold weather =P.

Okay, I want some of what you're having, lol. I'd rather go to the Philippines :P London was once pretty safe, but it's dangerous here too, ya know. :( In my area alone, there have been plenty of stabbings.. *sigh*. And generally all over London, too. Street crime is becoming.. seriously unbelievable.

No Jenjenjen! Don't do it! :P Don't think it, ever! Go to the countrysides. lol. XD Just to add here though, what amazed me about some of the responses from people on iSketch, is when they asked about where people were from.. if anyone answered "London".. a lot of people would find it fascinating.. and get excited :| I just couldn't understand why! Probably has more to do with the fact that I've lived here all my life, and despise it - can't wait to get out :) It's not as "great" as it seems, until you live here. Cities suck - just my opinion :/

Btw. To be more specific, I live in East London. You can call me Wicked Witch Of The East :P

I like this thread - I remember an old one started by Fy_Nyte about where we live and what's good about it, but I think it's so old its fallen off now.....

I am from Tasmania, Australia - the little island at the bottom that is usually left off the maps, but whose map brings a smile to most men's faces due to it's shape.

We tend to be the butt of most Australian jokes as we are a small island State, so we get called inbred - 6 fingers on each hand, 2 heads etc, but I love it here. Moved from Queensland, Australia 12 years ago (you can blame that on Mr Saff)

We gave Australia Alistair Lynch, Ricky Ponting, and we gave the world Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.

Unfortunatley we also gave the world its second biggest spree killer.

I love it here in Tassie even if it can get a little cold - I can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else.

Lived in Hampshire all my life so far. Mean to go travelling across Europe and America at some point but I'm not sure where I would want to live permanently.

Ah, I vaguely remember that now! Ah well, this can be a fresh start - especially since more people have joined. Thanks, Saff :)

lol. Btw, as much as I love Australia and would love to live out there, 'cause it just looks so darn gorgeous! I just couldn't.. purely 'cause of the spiders and snakes. :| Hubby lived out there for a year, and when he suggested to me that we could live out there one day, my first thoughts really were snakes and spiders.. lol. I mean, I remember you posting that story about the spider thing in your car.. omg!

i live in the US, but i've been moving about a lot. i'm currently in chicago, although my hometown and homebase is Philadelphia and i lived in NY for a couple years. it's never been a secret that i hate it here, i prefer the country as well. If i wasn't to leave the US i'd follow sam's example, alaska or the middle of nowhere where it's nice and cool. my all time place that i've always wanted to move to is Scotland. somewhere in the highlands, and now that i've been there, i'd say i want to move there even more! i love the cold, so maybe i'd go waaaaay up north.

LOL @ spider thing.....twas a Huntsman, and yeh they are pretty scary.....

And the snakes aren't too bad - in Tassie, there are NO non-venomous species, however, where I grew up in Queensland....we had the beautiful carpet-snake which can make a lovely pet. Never were too worried if we found one in the house....although I must admit..one day we went outside and found something that looked like this:

and a mother duck running around looking frantically for her 3 ducklings....

I'd love a pet snake but couldn't do with all that feeding it dead mice and so on, it's bad enough knowing our cat's eating little rabbits but at least they're in tinned form by the time we see it.

Anyway, back to the topic; I live in London, always have. Where would I rather live? Anywhere normally!

WELP! Cute drawing btw...

I like living in London, minus the crime and everything we have a good life here. My reasons for wanting to move to the countryside are probably because I'm now used to being alone a lot (in my study) so I don't like much noise so much. Also, it's something I've been in need of over the last couple of years. You need a change of scenery when things get too much.
Sam, I like the pic but it looks a bit deserted. Ideally I'd like to live in a tiny village with a population of about a couple of hundred people maximum. :)

Fen....I think a pet snake would much prefer LIVE mice :P
Snakes are quite funny animals actually....take the one in the pic above - the silly thing was so satiated by its feed of three live ducklings, it just lay around in the sun digesting them...until we discovered it......

Oh but talking of ducks - they are much more interesting - I remember finding one poor duck stuck in a jar - my sister (yeh its always *her*) was eating Peanut Butter straight from the jar one day and left it outside....and a duckie came alone and must have thought "Phwoar, this looks alright....." - wriggled into the jar (4 kids - big family - BIG jar) to eat the remains of Peanut Butter from the botton and got stuck - couldn't wriggle back out! Lucky we found it in time.....

um AJ I'll PM ya

I live in Northern British Columbia, Canada. Land of river valleys and agriculture/forestry. Right now it's being ravaged by an infestation of pine beetles and our beautiful pine trees are being destroyed. Picture of a single, very huge tree...totally dead, useless now. Other picture is of the river that's about half an hour out of town.

Oh and actually, I'd rather live anywhere but here. Possibly in the Lower Mainland of BC, or in the Okanagan (hot part of BC, although I'm not sure how I'd survive). I'd prefer a city, but not a huge city. Medium sized.......ish. Could uproot to the UK......if I was persuaded enough. I don't think I'd be able to learn how to drive on the wrong side of the road though

Thanks for the help in posting a picture, Zach :) <3

I've lived in England, Wales and Scotland and now I live in Southern Germany.

In some ways I miss the UK. Everything seemed easier there although I suspect it's more a language and culture thing. I like where we live, a small village on the outskirts of Stuttgart, although at times I wish it was better connected to the city. So yeah, I'd like to move out to one of the other villages which has a better connection.

If money/jobs/family/friends etc were no object, I'd move either to south-west France (Burgundy or Alsace) or to Italy (Tuscany). I love traditional, rural places and I love the vineyard landscapes of all of those places.

I've always been a Londoner but on the West side, unlike Nerdy and AJ, and I quite like it here! Okay so there are some grey buildings and pollution and loadsa people but there are lots of things to do and see and loads of history (which I love ).

But sometimes I do think of living elsewhere. Of the places I've been to, I liked Rome (perhaps 'cos it has even more history attached to it!) and the south of France (beeeaach! ).

Of the places I haven't, Australia looks good! Or is that because of too much Neighbours watching?

On the matter of where I would love to live . . . anywhere away from Slough

Slough

Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough!
It isn't fit for humans now,
There isn't grass to graze a cow.
Swarm over, Death!

Come, bombs and blow to smithereens
Those air -conditioned, bright canteens,
Tinned fruit, tinned meat, tinned milk, tinned beans,
Tinned minds, tinned breath.

Mess up the mess they call a town-
A house for ninety-seven down
And once a week a half a crown
For twenty years.

And get that man with double chin
Who'll always cheat and always win,
Who washes his repulsive skin
In women's tears:

And smash his desk of polished oak
And smash his hands so used to stroke
And stop his boring dirty joke
And make him yell.

But spare the bald young clerks who add
The profits of the stinking cad;
It's not their fault that they are mad,
They've tasted Hell.

It's not their fault they do not know
The birdsong from the radio,
It's not their fault they often go
To Maidenhead

And talk of sport and makes of cars
In various bogus-Tudor bars
And daren't look up and see the stars
But belch instead.

In labour-saving homes, with care
Their wives frizz out peroxide hair
And dry it in synthetic air
And paint their nails.

Come, friendly bombs and fall on Slough
To get it ready for the plough.
The cabbages are coming now;
The earth exhales.

No offense or anything! It's just what I think of when I think of Slough.

Ideally, I'd love to live in Norway or Sweden because the quality of life in those places is so high. I'd have to drag them a bit further south though to stop it being so dark in winter, plus I'd have to lower the price of alcohol.

Which, on other thoughts, might account for the high quality of life :S

LMFAO

No offence taken, seen that before

Also, there was a petition from residents in Windsor and Maidenhead to get their postal code changed since it is shared with Slough (SL)

I think the Queen must of been one of those people
