I agree Capt. Every major city has its bad area(s), crime and pollution problems but like all other cities and it not just a London thing as some members on here like portray it to be. I live in Docklands East, London (pictures below), its nice, clean and very safe. The area is pretty new with lots of new skyscrapers popping up every few months, the area has plenty of history as it once was the busiest shipping port in the world. Over the other side of the river you have Greenwich, tons of tourists go through the Docklands side of the Foot-tunnel to walk to Greenwich. Living by the river is perfect as you can really enjoy yourself watching boats, Navy & Cruise ships past by or dock-in at any given time. So yes, thats my reason.

Then again I would like to stay in Cali & Canada for a few months.

I used to live in Aldershot.

Now I don't. That's all I'm saying on the matter, as I am sworn to secrecy about my location in case the King of the Potato People reads this forum and locates me and my secret army of highly trained assassin carrot sticks.

I'm quite happy with where I live now, (somewhere in Surrey...) but would like to buy a bigger house. I can't swing the cat properly in the current one.

I don't live by a river, but sometimes when it rains I get puddles in the garden, and a small stream of water out the front of the house that I can paddle in.

LOL at the Betjeman! Brilliant poem, no offence to Slough though!

I live up in North-West England. I do like it, because I'm only about twenty minutes outside of the city and I am a city girl at heart. If I could, I'd live closer to London. Not actually in London, but close enough to pop in whenever I wanted on the tube or train. I love the theatre you see, so I always want to go and see musicals and plays there, but it's so expensive to get the train sometimes from up here. That being said, I am going to London for the day next week because I got some bargain priced tickets!

If I could live abroad, I would probably choose either America, or Italy. I've never actually been to either, but I would love to one day.

I live in Dorset about 5 mins drive from the beach. I've always lived here and I can't imagine living anywhere else. The town I live in is a historic Priory town and is really beautiful. The New Forest is only a 10 min drive away as well, so we have the best of both worlds here. The only downside are the grockles (holiday makers) that insist on clogging up the roads every summer, especially if it rains.

It's great here because it's not overrun with ppl and there's plenty of room to move. I would hate living in a city - too much noise and pollution

Cool

I live in a suburb of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. I have lived in three other countries as well: Malta, Singapore and England, and have visited many more.

Given the 'no ties, financial woes, etc.' freedom to choose where to live, I'd need to do a bit of hunting around but definitely tropics or sub-tropics; possibly a Pacific island. I loved the laissez faire/laid back attitude of the locals in Vanuatu for instance. So, for me, it would be hot and steamy , modern enough to have broadband Internet and some form of consistent power supply, access to fresh produce, ingredients and drinky-poos (cos I love cooking and entertaining), somewhere nice to swim (a good pool would do), great views and a good mix of ex-pats for some 'educated' company! Hmmm, that's the basics anyway!

Nice thread Nerdy :P

I live in Woking and have done so ever since I was born. There is quite a bit to do here but once that's run out, there's always a short train journey to London :P
I feel quite boring in saying that I'd like to live here all the time. I've never known anywhere else (yet) to call home.

Places I would rather be is Europe, seen many things I want to paint! Of course try the food too. =P Maybe I would want to see Australia too, once again painting, but also the food. Is my stomach posting this or I?

Deadlock will become famous soon enough
Living in a Coventry postcodal area, but not exactly in Coventry. Rather say Coventry than Birmingham though, tell anyone you're 20 miles from Birmingham and they all think you have the accent, and take the mickey.

Came here from Newcastle at the age of 2, lived here ever since. I'm in an area where there are lots of Geordies and Scots, so I haven't completely lost my Newcastle accent :)

If I had the choice to live anywhere it'd probably be Los Angeles or San Francisco, a couple of places I visited while on honeymoon and would love to go back to.

I totally forgot about this thread. I saw it and thought of Kindergarten cop, that film with Arnie in it. He plays that game with the kids... "who is your daddy and what does he do?" and some kid says "My dad's a gynecologist. He looks at......... all day" Don't think I'm allowed to fill that blank in on this forum :P

Another said "My dad repairs wrecked cars driven by women who are pinheads." Heh, now I fancy watching that film again...

I currently live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

This photo was taken a month ago:

I would love to live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I spent the summer there on an exchange program and fell in love with it. Applying to McGill (an anglophone university in Montreal) when the time comes. (By the way, anglophone means primarily English speaking... just thought I'd add that in there, because a couple people had no idea what I was talking about.

I think living in Europe would be very cool as well, but I'd miss Canadian snow too much, and it's just all around more convenient to stay in the same country, especially for university - Canada is really annoying about hiring people who didn't get their post-secondary education in Canada, or at least North America.

I live in northern California. I have lived here since I was like 2 or 3, something like that. I love it here. No real complaints.

As far as where I would rather live?.....hmm....not sure if there is anywhere I would rather live. I am happy wherever I live as long as my family is with me! Right now I live about 5 miles from my parents and most of my siblings and thats the furthest I have been from them in 7 years. I love living near my family! There are places I would love to visit though!

I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. :P I was born here and have lived here since, yadda yadda. I'm not reeeally fond of it here, besides the local hockey team, ha.

Where would I rather live is a hard question.
I like warm weather, ;P but a lot of the places I'd want to live don't really have that year round. Not a lot of places do, I suppose. Massachusetts (like round Amherst) is beautiful, and I am very much in love with the New England states. (:
I've yet to be out of the country and would love to visit many places :). Languages is what I may end up doing, so that's for sure a reason why. International wise, I'd put Germany and England on the top of my list, for now. :D
