Drawing with intent to mislead
I would be curious how others handle the people who will toil on a drawing of, say, a racecar... Ignoring requests for hints, only to have time expire and the game announce the word was 'tree'.
Do you usually wait for the second offending action and warn, or just go straight to boot? Just curious... Seems to be a lot of that going around... |

Depends, if the drawing was just obscure, and in the end it could be understood as the word, i don't do anything but complain about it, but there's not much that can be done as obscuring draws is not against the rules as long as they relate to the word.
Now, if you get say... tree, and the bastard draws a car, i give them a warning. Second time around they get a vote. And one has to wonder why often it takes just one vote to boot them.

I enjoy drawing the word in an unusual way sometimes. It makes it more interesting I think. And I always ignore:
hint hint HINT HINT HINT!!!! HINT!!!!!!!!!! But if they make no effort to draw the word at all, then I'd be keen to skip them on their next draw to avoid waiting through another pointless round.

I recently played some muppet who decided that for the word BONGO he would draw a door - a man - and a traffic light.
He had been doing this for the past few ganes and I was blowing up galore - but he had some oher muppet with him who kept saying "it's only a game" - I replied "Yes but its MY LEISURE TIME and that idiot is wasting it!" A friendly Admin who plays in the same room occasionally booted him for irrelevant draws. His friend kept on about how it was bongo and that was what he was drawing - I understand the "go" part but what the bloody hell relevance was a door and a man? This other player kept whining and saying "Oh - he says blah, blah, blah and he was bored" on MSN - to which I replied - "Well if he was bored then tell him to go play on the railway lines or find someone else's time to waste and not mine - besides the Admin booted him fairly" Whine whine whine - Ignore I usually use the Warn button, but if they do it again I will state in the chat box my reason and warn them that way - then (usually when I have support) I will hit the boot button if they keep up the irrelevant draws. /SLAP noobs-who-say-HINT-when-the-drawing-has-been-guessed.

Off topic draws are indeed against the rules and can result in being kicked by an admin. An important point to remember though is that the artist has the entire draw time to complete their picture. Therefore until that time is up and the round is actually over you don't know for certain that the draw is off topic and so a skip vote would not be appropriate.
Please remember that hints cost the artist points and are given entirely at their discretion. Repeated calls for hints are not fair on the artist and could result in a caution if an admin is present. |

EG mango ( like many ) I draw a man then traffic signals pointing to go war I draw a wardrobe Foreman I draw sounds like 4 then + man. I won't name to many as every one will be able to guess all my draws now edit: drives me mad when players type hint hint hint hint, after players have already guessed the word. But who I am to judge on speed!? The time limit's 1 minute (English Easy UK) And as BB mentioned, the artist is allowed to use all of that time. /flirt jewels' "off-topic draws"

Oh, I'm all for drawing words in unusual ways. It keeps the game from being monotonous....
There are a lot of interesting ideas here... Have to admit I never thought about the 'hint abuse' concept. I'll have to keep that in mind. |

lol.... Some people type 'hint' before the line starts to be drawn!
There are others, who when a reg uses one stroke, will vote because they think they're not drawing anything. What's the official line on one stroke in normal rooms (none 5ers)? It's not a misleading draw, but a lot of people, unless they know the reg in question, might not know what's being done. Sorry... BB already answered.. the artist is allowed the time alloted to make their draw. |

Please explain your 'one stroke' comment... It went right over my head (which is nothing unusual). Are there one-stroke rooms? I've seen five-stroke rooms...

There aren't one-stroke rooms, but you can limit yourself to one-stroke in any room.
When you draw with one-stroke (I'm sure you already know this) , nothing shows up. So silly newbies tend to vote on you because they think you are wasting time.

Not sure why peoople would want to draw like that, but if they do want to, maybe we should encourage them (more often) to go do it in a user created room. As far as Juuuooooonnn's original question, my personal attitude is, if the drawing is off topic the first time around (after the timer is up), I only tell them to draw on topic or people will start to boot them out. If they do it a second time, then I vote to boot them (but I always lean on the cautious side - that is, to wait 'til the timer has finished -- as BB has stated). I feel giving them a second chance is fair because sometimes they do apologise and then play as normal (bless them..;D). And sometimes they actually end up being really nice people, that are fun to play/talk with... God, I love the UK easy rooms... heh. Last edited by MsNerdinator; 04-04-2007 at 03:07 PM. |

Whatever the case, it was one of the worst pieces of scrawl I've seen on iSketch. The drawing definitely deserved the vote, though in my opinion it wasn't so much for being misleading, but more that it was just so s---house as to make the parts unrecognisable (in spirit, and the B thing in technicality). * aerochick wonders what the opinion of the forum would be on drawing a picture of sand if the word was sandwich, therefore making everyone work just a bit harder, but perhaps finding the answer is all the more gratifying?

In reference to aerochick's using sand as part of sandwich, I'd consider that a pun draw like in mish mash. I welcome that type of wit. I'd probably draw a witch sunbathing on the beach for that one.
I wish it was mandatory for boobs (I mean newbs) to read the rules prior to playing & log in a certain number of hours in newbie rooms before being allowed to venture out into "normal" rooms. Sometimes you just want to jump in a game and play with regulars to relax and have fun without having to babysit a bunch of newbies. Having to babysit the young and in manure isn't exactly my idea of entertaining. And, no, not all newbies are boobies. Three cheers for the administrators who try their best to make playing a nicer experience for all! |

boobies!
![]() Seriously though, everyone should make an effort to point noobs/boobs to the intructions page, be it trying really hard for them to notice the big "instructions" sign under the chat box or sending them a link. I've seen many benefit from this.

The other night I had to argue with somebody that a personal message was not a violating offence, it was only "ok!" or somesuch that somebody wrote in the corner. They were insistant that no letters means NO letters. They claimed to have been playing for aaaaages, and then admitted they'd never read the instructions *sigh*
I love doing a one stroke draw but quite a few times I've had people vote me for it. Could Rob install something suitable to use in response .. perhaps involving rabid ferrets and the voter's underwear? As to misleading draws: I love to throw a curveball, "rocket" being ET getting stoned (with rocks) etc, but tend to reserve them for when the room is predominately regs or, if I'm feeling evil, there's somebody annoying/abusive in the room and I'm trying to wind them up a bit. Hey, we all need a hobby |
