Eurovision!

Get off iSketch and turn off your computers folks and prepare for the ultimate in European family television entertainment.

The Eurovision is an institution which should really have its own national holiday.

Who's watching tonight? Do you have little Eurovision buffets or parties with your pals? :P

(Gents - the Polish and the Russian entries seem to be the most worth watching ;) )

I think I'm way too ashamed of our appalling entry to even turn it on.

I do miss it all. No TV here, no spangly costumes, no awful lyrics, tired dance routines, erratic voting and sarcastic Wogan. I feel a little home sick because of it.

Vik - nil points.

EDIT: There's just so many little things that I used to love that they just don't do here - Grand National, Guy Fawkes Night, Eurovision (well, they do do it here, but if it aint Wogan, it aint Eurovision) Crufts, the Shipping Forecast (lol) and Jools Holland's Hootenanny.

Hmphf.

or not intending to anyways.
I'll probably get dragged in in a minute, I think the rest of my family's watching it.

What time does it finish?

I havent watched it, but as per norm have Cyprus given Greece 12 points and vice versa, as they always do.

oh cyprus don't seem to be in it this year

edit: final scores

At least Ukraine didn't win...!

And jeez, UK, what have you been sending in lately?

Ireland, yes, such a big stadium holds more people than your local bar! (Don't be nervous...)

Georgia: How did you ♥♥♥♥ up such a great song after you did so well in the semi-finals? I had all my hopes on you!

Greece & Turkey: Can you finally change the genre of your countries' entries?

Hungary: Why didn't you get more points for being so good last night?

Latvia: Il Divo sucks, you were even more annoying

Malta & Portugal: You should have been in the finals

Serbia: Congrats. Now calm down girl.

Am I the only one who actually thinks that our entry was pure Eurovision tack? Let's be honest, 5 years ago, that's what eurovison was all about. Our entry was perfect!

We're never going to win it now, they all vote in block for each other. Our perfect insitution of Eurovision has been turned into some huge political voting system. I could say so much more but I am forcing myself to bite my tounge

Please keep biting your tongue, 'cos it's rubbish. Sorry.

Just face it, eastern europe actually bothers to send something that sounds good. 'kay, I can't deny that countries like to vote for their neighbours or former rulers, but it's the people that vote (except for Russia which has a jury) so it's hardly political. Blocks, sure (I mean, the UK didn't exactly deserve the 12 points from Ireland, right?), but political, I doubt it.

But western europe only whines about getting so few votes and yet they keep on sending rubbish!

I don't always watch it, but I do recall in the past, the year that France refused to buy british beef ( mad cow etc) the Uk gave France a hugh big zero and like wise they gave us the same back, France and Ireland did get pally with each other for a few years giving each other 10's and 12,s I couldn't work out what that was all about, perhaps they just did like each other's songs.

Hmmmm, that sounds politcal to me

There are years we deserve a big fat zero but we're never really going to win a huge vote again. As I say, it all changed about 5 years ago.

Alright, if you look at it this way: If a country has a lot of influence over another the people might think: 'Oh hey, the Russians are good for our country, they are alright people, let's give 'em some points'. But I think it's more of a cultural relation really. Especially if a song has folk influences. And also a language issue maybe. If you think Serbian sounds like a harsh ugly language you may not like the song quite as much as people who live in the east of europe and speak languages with similar sounds. And being able to understand the lyrics is also a big plus.

But I wouldn't call it much of a political event, 'cause there isn't too much benefit in giving a country you're friendly with 12 points. "Oh, 12 points from Ireland? Let's import more meat from them and sign a treaty"

Meh, political voting... Cyprus were giving Greece 12 points and vice versa when the Trojan Horse was the Greek entry.

It's all part of Eurovision - and I think Dinnae has a point - perhaps people living next door to each other just like each other's music. Unless they are England and France.

It's not about winning, it's about taking the piss :P

Just saw some of the contestants on youtube. All i can say, the russia girls were smoking.

I don't know what the big deal about serbia was... then again, i saw very few contestants and she was well above them.

OMG WTF ROFL the ukraine costumes.

I kinda liked the irish entry.

The turkey guys were alright, though the timberlake voicing and dancing were a bit too much for me.

Bulgaria was erm... what's that? Folklore technogoth? Good entry tho.

Outstanding competition this year, but i still like last year's winners better than all the ones this year. Yes, devil is a loser. ROFL.
