Good Friday
This Friday, the 10 of April, is Good Friday.... The day Jesus was crucified.
First, he was beaten by Roman soldiers. Then he was made to carry a cross which was to be used for his crucifixion. Even when he was being mocked by the people on the streets, Jesus did not think of revenge. Finally, he was nailed to the cross. Each nail, 5-7 inches long, was hammered into his hands and feet. A crown of thorns was also placed on his head. The pain he endured, was the same like any other human being would feel. Jesus was 100% man at that point of time. Left to die on the cross, Jesus prayed to God, asking Him to forgive the people. even with the way they treated him. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. He died for us, to atone for the sins of all who repent. 3 days later, the day also known as Easter, Jesus was resurrected from the dead. "So God gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him shall not perish and have eternal life."- John 3:16 ✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞✞ Happy Good Friday to all Christians out there... Praise the Lord! =) |

You are kind of talking about two different things.
The word "Easter" is most definitely Pagan in origin and it is pretty well accepted by Christian scholars that the resurrection of Jesus was celebrated around the Spring Equinox to help pagans assimiliate to Christian beliefs. However, the actual church celebration... celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus is Christian, not Pagan. Of course, there are a million little things that Christians and others do around Easter that can be traced to Pagan origins (like easter egg hunts, etc.), but the actual belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus is Christian. |

heheh I love the use of the phrase "help pagans assimilate to christian beliefs" here If we are going to be specific, then yes, there are 2 different festivals being celebrated as one entity here. I would suggest there are far more pagan connections than there are christian ones, and the 2 festivals occuring on the same date was as you say, an attempt to coax the pagan hoardes to convert to christianity. |

Well, whatever the origins, Easter is now the most important date on the calendar for many Christians.
Whatever your beliefs, enjoy the nice long weekend :)

Jesus was in fact hung from a tree, this may sound like crap to a lot of you, cause the bible has always mentioned crucified on a cross ect but if you look in to this as i have in my life you will find the correct story. Basicly the cross was brought in to this event many years after it happend dont ask me why maybe people thought a cross sounded better than a tree who knows, but plzz go find the real story it is there for all to read. Happy easter to you all. Budden. xx |

Well, Crucifixion was pre-Roman. Even ancient Greeks had it.

Ahh I was just typing roughly the same thing, Aless. :/ Besides, they clearly used a cross; it was filmed for a documentary at the time, it's called "The Passion of the Jesus" and it's available in bargain bins everywhere if you want to see the proof.

Ahhh, no that's the new-ish film isn't it? Was sold on DVD. Needless to say, they didn't have DVD's in Biblical times! :) No, this was the documentary which they made at the time of His crucifixion, so it went to VHS cassettes and also limited editions were sold in Japan in the Laserdisc format.

Ahah, yeah, I put a bid on one. :P It was War of the Worlds, the original... but I didn't want to bid more than a few pennies, seeing as I would have just received it, excitedly taken it out of the sleeve, said "wowwww is rather large" and then just put it away and never looked at it again. :P I suppose I could have framed it. :)
