Oh well ok nice thread guys! I needed one urgently tonite but eventually none around! When will the noobs (not even with dots but still noobs) stop stealing nicknames of others who spent many years on this game?!.This is still an open wound. And this guy tonite was doing it on purpose don't ask I just know it! yet he was so confident and shameless and he'll keep using it.I should have started a new thread about it but I'll talk to the person who's name's been stolen first hmmm...

I'm not entirely sure that an admin can kick on the basis of someone using another player's word. Most often than not it's not exactly intentional, there are heaps of players on iS, it's likely that eventually someone will run into someone who is using their name also. And until registrations are open, if they ever do open, I don't think there is much that can be done except for sitting tight and being patient. Or politely explaining to the noob that they're using someone else's name and it would be appreciated if they could pick another.

If a player is doing it maliciously and is causing damage to the player who originally had the name, I think admins may be able to help, but I'm not entirely sure so don't quote me on it.

It's just one of those problems that arises when there's no registration. I think that if he's doing it on purpose, let him have the name and give him no attention. Then he might get bored of it and move on to taunt other players, and then the player can have their name back.

I agree it is annoying if someone else uses your regular username on iSk. I also agree with Ruby in saying that some of the time "name stealing" is unintentional, especially if you have a short or a common name. Not saying that you personally have a common name Holy, but just in general :)

Personally, I don't think admins can do anything if a regular player's name is taken, because technically they aren't breaking any rules. Unless, of course, they are acting up.

It is my name HD is talking about :( I was out last night and a racist reg who I've booted before used my name. Its not the first time he's done it, it IS intentional, and NO he can't have it til he gets bored of it >I

On the topic, i usually recommend people not to be so attached to their names. If someone is impersonating, drop the name for a while or altogether, and let your buddies know about the situation and of the temporary or new permanent name.

Keeping it cool and taking a few simple steps like these is usually the best, because all griefers want is a reaction. So best to react subtily and not give them much, and they quickly drop it or move on.

Not keeping details about yourself on your isketch profile is a good way of not being readily identifiable as well.

A few years ago, a group of us had a similar problem. Instead of getting bent out of shape about it, we changed our names and had a code password, so that we ONLY shared that with those we wanted to prove to who were were. It worked a treat.

Guys, I can understand that you chose to be upset, but if I encounter an imposter, I have a great time asking loads of things that the imposter wouldn't know, (but frankly the real person wouldn't know either). "Hows your grandma, is she still sick? tell me about it, did you read that book I talked about with you? hows the dog? the cat? the plants? strangely enough , if I start babbling, they log off and come back with a new name.
As an admin, we can't kick them for it. We can only be extremely friendly and chat :D That's our job, you know ;)

:/ this isn't really the point...this dude is posing as me because I kicked him for racist themes once or twice. Apparently he keeps himself "just within the rules". He has ever since been taking my name, and drawing those themes whilst using it, harassing me in whisper, and generally being a total ...grrrrr. Other players who have also been harassed by him have sent in screenshots, but still, nothing. I'm about to send mine in now, but I'm not holding my breath.
Not sure why this kind of behaviour is ok...the name-taking is just part of it really, I'm on my 4th name now because of similar things, is a recurring issue for me as there are no registrations and i doubt there ever will be considering how long the game has been going. bleh.

It sure is annoying since also we have a buddy list on IS so you sometimes click on without a question then you're in! Eventually when you view the drawing or else view the profile cuz you're sensing something's wrong! then you ask him why she/he is using this nickname then he/she goes what's it to you? then you're booted! It's not nice at all.!!ReinFreak that's his usual name.Am I right elfy?And he uses some variations of it from time to time..There I said it.Ditto. I hope someone uses his nickname forever cuz he deserves it!
