Too many people seem to take offense and get abusive at even the slightest hint of something that is (usually) misinterpreted - a command that is specifically meant to provide an insult can only antagonise. And yes, some of them can be humorous - however - I'm sure it wasn't just me that thought people were making them up before I knew about the command (er...LOL - I thought the same with the ASL one - I used to think people could come up with some very witty retorts - and so quickly.....

I miss the /insult command. I also miss some other command that I used to use but now I forget... unless I'm thinking of /borg... that might be the one on my mind...

Do you really miss the commands that much hun, i thought they was fun for a very short while then they got boreing.
They also caused some agro with new players thinking that the insults were personally directed at them, which isnt nice. It makes new players feel unwanted and we dont want that do we. |

I'd like to use the /slap command on people who would constantly type /insult Nay to test what the machine would give them. Thanks to them I did figure out it was automated, 'cos no sane person would start every insult with "Nay:". Still, poor little me was confused :D
I can see how it can bother players who are not aware of its existence, but I think you have to be a bit sensitive to be insulted by the things it came up with! Anyway, it's gone now... apparently? I won't miss it.

I'm afraid this subject brings out the grumpy old goat in me. "slapped on the bum with a wet post-it note" may be funny the first time...
I never use the robot's random choice of phrase, just my own words. I don't read them either - only read the hand written ones. So I agree with banning the auto insult of course (if you must, write your own insult so you can get the balance of gentleness/vehemence and humorous/serious just right). I wouldn't mind if the whole automatic message feature were removed. |

Note: This is an example of what the /insult command will give you. It is not a message to anyone in particular. Last edited by sense; 19-10-2007 at 09:12 PM. Reason: Clarified the context of the post |

When are they going to ditch the stupid /BORG one as well?
I'm sure it just takes up valuable server space and besides which, I can generate better insults and acronyms myself.

I think the /insult command is best left in the garbage bin too. Some of the insults contained obscene words, leading to people getting booted from rooms over the command.. Imagine what the Admins had to deal with :P
Not too mention that, as others have said, it's very annoying how people would spam it for no reason. Some of the insults gave a chuckle the first time you read them, but they really got old fast..

Personally i do not like the insult command at all. I emailed feedback asking it to get removed XD

I also emailed Feedback asking it to be removed based on the following reason:
Isketch has wonderful admin who volunteer their time to getting rid of the ratbags who ruin the games for those of us who want a fair game. Sure ... in a room full of regulars that function would not be abused and only used for teasing. However in a room full of 'bullies' and there are groups of them from time to time on isketch. this button was used to intimidate new or vulnerable players. This function only enpowered these people, they were saying to admin in effect, why should you boot us or warn us for being rude when isketch has these functions that say its okay to do. Double messages were being sent. So while a few do miss out, because the used them properly, it is a good thing they are gone for those who were being 'ganged' up on. |

I totally agree with that. I've seen a few regulars say that they've never seen anyone take offense to the commands, but I can think of an example where they did take offense to those same regulars, and I even remember an admin coming in to sort it out. I remember explaining to the admin that these regulars were the ones who started the trouble. I remember a newbie losing their patience a bit, and this annoyed regulars. You could just tell that newbie wouldn't have done anything wrong, it was a shame to see me calm that person down, and for them to apologise, only to find that the other regulars thought it would be fun to start using the /insult command on them. The regulars continued to 'mock' this newbie with the command, and soon that newbie lost their patience. And one bad word got them the boot from regulars who were actually triggering off such a reaction..
There were also a few words that were being used in that command (one, specificially) which was considered politically incorrect (and rude) to use in the UK (not in other countries though, I don't think), and I remember taking a screenshot and sending that to feedback (though I appreciate that some words mean different things in different countries, or are tolerated, so that's expected). I'd never want to see that command come back again, it leaves admins going around sorting out pointless arguments over the command, when there are far more important votes - like rule breaking - that get missed because of it. I'm a bit late with posting my views on this, but I got tempted to reply XD I'm glad the command is goooooone! :D Last edited by MsNerdinator; 29-01-2008 at 09:23 PM. |

G'day Nerdy ... completely agree with your post too ... sometimes simple is better ... so the less commands that MAY offend makes everyone's experience of isk more enjoyable.
