Dear iSketch users,
I was playing iSketch earlier today and two iSketch users ( not saying user names) were posing to be a Administrator. The reason why I know they weren't Admins was because I tried their user names and it wasn't registered. They were saying ' If you don't OP me you will get banned' or ' If you don't shut up you will get banned' And a lot more. I really think this problem is pathetic because once a iSketch user poses do be a admin everyone else will want to do the same thing and this problem will get worse. WHERE ARE THE ADMINS WHEN YOU NEED THEM?

This isn't a new problem, and personally, I don't feel others watch and then copy. There have been many times when people pose as admins, and the only problem as far as I'm aware is that the "innocent" players who don't know the difference between real admins and fake admins (such as real admins being able to type in bold writing), leads them to not knowing otherwise. Some people just believe it. But if you know for sure that they're not real, then it's best to tell the room openly.
If there is an admin that you know when this happens, then I'd suggest letting them know that there is a pest in the room claiming to be admin. In the past, when real admins have watched people pose as them, I've seen them get kicked off the game (not sure this would happen in a UC room though). Please don't take it out on the admins not being around when you need them. They are there whenever they can make it. And let's face it.. there can't ever be an admin on every minute of the day, and even if there was, there are many, many votes, etc, to attend to in different rooms. As an admin once said on here, if anyone is claiming to be an admin, get them to type in bold. If they do, they're genuine. If they fail to do it/refuse to/don't have a clue what you're on about, then you'll know they're not. I wouldn't worry too much about others copying their way of thinking. The bigger problem is when others in the room believe it. |

Wellllllll if you could have opped them.. it means you were in a UC room and were an op... so why didnt you just boot them? Admins cant be booted from UC rooms, as i recently found out :D
But yeh, you get all sortsa n00bs, leave them be (Edit: hi nerd) |

I asked both players to type in bold which they refused to. Then I kicked them both out which means they weren't admins. but still posing as a admin? that's messed up.

You did the right thing trying to get them to type in bold. Maybe if they keep getting asked to do the same thing (by other users), they'll get bored of it. It is a bit childish of 'em, but people find amusement in the most strangest ways

Another point to remember is unless a UC room is causing serious trouble, Admin's will not interfere with them. Not to mention, although they don't normally and shouldn't, they can op themselves in UC rooms anyway so wont need to ask to be /op'ed. They have all the tools the need to perform their job without asking for a user to do something for them. Nor will they threaten you with a ban for not /op'ing them. The only threats, well warnings you will get from Admin's are when you break the rules or are just causing trouble. And sometimes you may not even get a warning, just the resultant boot/block/ban. Admin's do not need /op in any room and the only time you may see one /op'ed is in a UC room where the /op's know the Admin as a friend.
As said above, if someone claims to be an Admin, ask for proof, whether its underlining their name, typing in bold or a PM from "Administrator" Admin's don't and generally won't claim to be an Admin, they'll just show via one of the 3 ways I listed that they are. The most common is the PM from Administrator (usually a warning of some kind) followed by the bold writing and then the good old underlined name. Although personally I haven't seen an underlined Admin's name for some time. Also for the record, if I remember correctly, it is possible to kick an Admin if they want to be kicked or allow you to. JayLou, you did the right thing. If there are impersonators in UC rooms nagging about being an admin, just try to find an admin , if there isn't one hanging around isketch, I would say BOOT or Ignore....Or: ask very difficult questions about being an admin. That's fun. Get very wicked answers from them and send them to Feedback? heh. That way you get some fun out of it as well. Good luck. |

I don't really see why someone saying "I am an admin, do this" is such a big problem.
Just laugh at them. Last edited by NoHints; 18-03-2008 at 07:54 PM. |

People pretending to be admin is nothing new, it's something almost as old as admins themselves. Admins don't bully people, in normal rooms or in UC rooms. So if you get someone saying they're admin and being reaaaaally idiotic at the same time, making irrational requests and such, just ask them to prove that they're admins or to gtfo. And as clau said, /ignore or boot them.

An admin: a lovely , warm , caring person, who has played iSektch on every suitable hour of the day or night, an admin knows the rules by heart (or else will ask others) and has a great amount of humour at her/his disposal, or else he or she can't handle the 100+ porndraws she/he sees, per day.
Admins are loved because of their endless patience with rude players. They act most of the time mature, but if you catch them in groups, be aware. They never go by the name 'Admin'. so if you see an Admin or a Moderator in the room, have fun :D |

It actually is a problem. It gives iSketch and the moderators a bad reputation. A new player that does not know any better will see an "admin" behaving rudely and word will spread that the game has nasty "admin" and drive people away from iSketch. Admin often use names that arent registered if they are trying to hide so logging in as that name is not a good enough way to tell if it's admin or not. And as for booting admin from uc rooms, ive booted many admin on their official names from UC rooms.

Ive have never seen anyone saying they were admin when they actually werent. I might just have to get an ip address and screenshot something like that and email it to feedback, if I ever saw that happen. I have, at times, threatened to call the admin to the room if my votes dont work even if there arent any admin(that I recognize) on at that time. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

Remind these people, that pretending to be an admin is a bannable offence, that you have their ip address and a screencap of everything theyve just said and watch them run ;) Works for me everytime

I just call a real admin in the room and then bait the person to tell me how great it is to be an admin. I love the boot sound when it's not hitting MY ass.
