Red face MySpace to lay off 30 percent of staff

Hi,

This is my first post to the forum, it’s very informative and enjoyable really.

According to Routers, Myspace will cut its staff by 30 percent. As you can guess, Facebook and Twitter are very powerful competitors of myspace. There are many more competitor in online community industry and I wonder which one will become most powerful. Any predictions?

First of all, I'd like to welcome you to the forum Ahsen :)

I do have a MySpace and a Facebook account which I personally don't really use that much. On the whole they do have their similarities, but even if MySpace are condensing their staff numbers, they are still running for the time being.
As for Twitter, I don't have an account, but I have heard that it is very addicting. I imagine that Twitter would get larger and larger, and in my opinion it may become one of the largest social networks purely for its simplicity.

Well I think that Twitter sucks.

I have twice created an account and then deleted them. It is just plain boring, because to be honest I dont care what he had for breakfast or what her favourite cats name is etc.

Facebook I do kinda get more with the apps, games and quizzes it can be rather easy to spend a lot of time there. MySpace, imo, is only good for findng new bands/music.

Edit: I forgot to say hi, and welcome to the forums!

Loooooooool the reason why myspace are cutting staff is Probably because it sucks :D :)
-imo ofc-

Ahah. I think the social site that wins it hands down is facebook (even before the cut backs). I think there was something around here about social sites, but yeah. MySpace was okay until it became silly (or until facebook came along ;) )... Oh but I do agree with the fact that it's good for new music. I think a lot of bands have their websites on there because you can have that music player thing. :)

Twitter I feel will grow in popularity due to the amount of celebrities that use it etc... So it could be the next thing, Buuut if it doesn't get as cool as facebook, then I feel facebook will be around for a while :)

Oh and Welcomeeeee :)

Hi Ahsen :)

It seems to me like MySpace have done a lot of copying from Facebook? It's just everything they copied was never quite as good on MySpace as it was/ks on Facebook. I think MySpace is going downhill - it seems to me to be getting overly complicated to use and because of this I'm not really using it now.

I agree with everything db said about Twitter...although some people dislike, it's getting more and more popular, especially with celebrity attention etc.

I think facebook will always have the older market and myspace will always have the teen market. Twitter is microblogging not full-on social networking so I don't think it's competition in the same realm.

I prefer myspace because it can be customised more but I think facebook is better for organising events and it's a little less messy and cluttered with its layout.

I seldom use either website, myspace I only tend to use for hunting down bands and facebook I only ever use for events, photos and occasionally social bookmarking.

Twitter is just silly IMO, I would perhaps use it for business networking but not for anything else.

Oh, can anyone remember the name of that website that categorises twitter posts into 4 sentences or something each one starting with "I love", "I hate" or 2 other things? I was trynna remember it the other day
