The New Time Lord In Town (well, in 2010 anyway)
Why arent we drooling over the new Doctor yet?
![]() Look at his hair! Its so swoopy! (although he looks like a bit of a zombie, and, as I am beginning to get over the awesomeness of the swoopy hair, his lack of eyebrows is now starting to scare me... He looks quite sinister now. Maybe this wasnt the best choice of picture.. I'm beginning to think he's slightly demonic.) Anyway! I hope he can be as pretty and shiny as Mr Tenant was. Although I once had a dream where Hugh Laurie (Greg House) was the doctor, it was quite a fantastic dream, although he did go around hitting daleks on the head with his cane, which I guess isnt bad, it was a sonic cane. *shrugs* You can essentially forget all of the above and just answer this, do you think they made a good choice in Mr Smith up there? |

Whilst it's probably unfare to pass judgement until he's actually filmed anything, I'm going to anyway ... but, as I'd be more interested in Rose than the Doc, I'll sidestep his looks - though I agree he could do with some eyebrows.
With David Tennant I was familiar with him as he'd only recently appeared in Casanova, and put in a great performance. I'm not familiar at all with Matt Smith but, from what I've seen, he's certainly a capable actor. Right for the role though? I'm not sure. My fear is that they'll use this, the youngest Doctor ever, as an excuse to turn Doctor Who into a sci-fi Hollyoaks (though a Dalek on that particular set would be a welcome sight). I would hope that the new lead writer, Steven Moffat, has more sense than mess with a formula that clearly works. So, for me, probably too early to say - time, and Time Lords, will tell. |

I definitely wanted a male doctor, but I wanted someone a lot older this time. Tennant already covered the young and cute angle - not sure how this guy is going to be much different.
It would have been fun to see a return of the 50- or 60-something eccentric scientist type of doctor - but maybe those days are over in this beauty over talent era of television. The doctor IS very old and I think an older actor could have brought that angle out a bit more. For me, the doctor just HAS to be male and Rose would have been a gimmick too far. I'm looking forward to seeing what this new chap has to offer and I hope he proves my doubts wrong. BTW - am I the only one who can see his eyebrows? And what is that block of light to the left of and slightly underneath the left eye (as you look at him)? Is he wearing a monocle or something?

Hugh Laurie would've made a fantastic doctor! I haven't watched much of it to say anything more though; let's give Smithers a chance.

Without wishing to sound sexist, the Doctor has to be male - I just cannot see it working with a female lead. I'd agree in that it may have been good to see an older Doctor, given most of us who remember the originals seem to have either John Pertwee or Tom Baker as our favourite, neither of which was exactly young. I'm not sure if younger actors can convey quite the same sense of gravitas the role can, or should sometimes require.
I think you'll find that's the light shining on his (very pronounced) cheek. He's not what I would call conventional looking (though I'm a fine one to pass judgement lol) |

Oh sorry Fen, I totally misunderstood what you meant about Rose in your first post, lol.
It can't be his cheekbone! It's RIGHT under his eye and it's so bright. I can't stop looking at it now.

I had no idea they still were still making new episodes. I thought it died off in the 80s. My father was obsessed with it and I know far more about Darleks (spelling?) and long scarves than what I would ever want to know!
Comment on the new guy... looks very British and might draw in a younger crowd. |

On the left as you look at it, therefore his right, it's just the light in the background showing through a tiny gap between his hair and his face. Looks like very slopey cheekbones on that guy.

Dr. Who Sucks!
* MrsNerdinator ducks Oh, that rhymes. I used to the love the old Dr Who series that I watched as a kid. But there's something about these newer ones that don't appeal to me. Probably all the bad acting.. |

Is anyone else thinking 'Edward Scissorhands after surgery'? Actually, his cheekbones are very Brandon Lee ala 'The Crow'.

I was sure that Paterson Joseph (Alan Johnson from Peep Show) was going to be Doctor Who... I would have watched it for sure if they had him. I heard it said not long before they announced who it that he was probable. Anyway, this fellow who they have chosen, although less cool and less attractive than "Johnson" to my eyes, could be alright with regards to the Doctor things. And Sparrow is ruddy right, Hugh Laurie would have been brilliant... Russell Brand would be good too, you could almost mistake him for an incarnation of Doctor Who if you didn't know who he was; really wordsy but also really silly.

Oh Nerdy my Nerdy, don't you see? He IS Doctor Who! He has his own distinctive look which is always important, and his look is a little bit dandy, but more than anything the way that he talks is perfect for a Doctor Who. And you agree with the things that I say?! Even I don't agree with most of my opinions! :)

And he'd be very prone to making jokes about his sonic screwdriver. I like Russell Brand but having him as Dr Who would be almost as bad as having Catherine Tate as the sidekick. (also, the actors say what the writers tell them in the accent they're told to use, so how he speaks wouldn't really come into it :P ) |

Well I never claimed that it was a well thought-out plan. :) hehe. I was about to start defending my case but then I realised that this occurance is never going to come into fruition so it is... without fruit, I suppose. But yeah he wouldn't be good for the action bits, I was just saying that the way that he naturally is would be good, it'd be an original interpretation but it'd be right for the character. I hardly MEANT it though. I just type and what comes out comes out.
Besides, he'd only make jokes about the screwdriver if the writers told him to. :):) Now let's forget that I ever suggested it! |

I've (sadly) watched a few episodes, or rather snippets of it, 'cause a few of my sisters love it. What I don't get about Catherine is that she sort of.. shouts.. rather than talks.. I love her in her Catherine Tate Show though.. |

Aww... I actually grew to finally like Catherine Tate as Donna towards the end of the series... and then they turned her back into shouty-annoying Donna and that annoyed me.
I'll miss David Tennant, I have to say. But.... the more I look at pictures of Mr Smith (Isn't that the name the Doctor uses as a disguise? *Is a geek*) the more I'm beginning to see him as the Doctor. Looking forward to it anyway, and hope he doesn't disappoint. I'm more interested now in who the new companion will be though.
