Sup. I think it would be great if "swear words" like the f-word are allowed on here. It's incredibly silly to censor those words with hearts>> ♥♥♥♥.
From what I've seen in some of the posts here (http://www.isketchforum.net/swearing-offensive-t3050.html#post170754), most of you are not offended by the use of swear words as long as it's not meant to offend anyone. So why not??
I understand that kids go on this forum too but is it really the forum's responsiblity to nanny the children who willingly get on the internet and permit their "pure minds" to be tarnished?

Good suggestion, but personally I think if we uncensored swearing on this site people will literally abuse it and spam offensive words.

I agree with Zadkiel, it's just asking for trouble.
And there's no point tarnishing the look of the forum with swear words. I think the hearts are lovely.
Personally, I would think allowing rude words on here is inviting for rude behaviour as well.
As it is almost normal to be rude on the internet, (because you can't see the people behind the computer) I think it's just great to keep reminding the young players, there are still people on the internet who don't say f*ck every 5 minutes. (Me being Dutch, I say other things. But I do not type them, heh)
Great Video though. Thanks!

The other rules still apply. If anyone spams they will be warned/infracted.
@Rouge I don't see how this would create more trouble. As long as everyone sticks to the rules, there wouldn't be a problem. I just want to be able to say fck without it appearing as ♥♥♥♥.

I think everyone knows what word you meant to say even with the "*".
Actually, any word/sentence could appear rude as long as the person saying it intends it to be rude/hurtful. For example, "The boy happily hugged his pianist, eager to start playing the organ" or "The priest spent a lot of his time training boys in the rectory"

From an admin's perspective having the filters on is going to do less harm then having it off. It's a depressing thought but censorship is a normal part of daily life and I would imagine many people almost expect & accept it in online scenarios.
My theory is this... IRL you are aware of who is around you and you can self-censor accordingly, e.g. I wouldn't say ***t around my mother or a kid. I don't think this self-censorship is as prevalent on the internet and consequently forum admins will censor swearwords to avoid restricting their userbase.
Sorry :(

That's a shame seeing as all the best places on the internet already allow swearing. Almost everyone using the internet would have been exposed to swear words whether they like it or not. Typing "f*ck" or even "fXXX" instead of "♥♥♥♥" isn't fooling anyone with an IQ over 5. No one is sitting there thinking "well s/he COULD have meant fick or feck!"
People are going to hear it anyway, and it’s not going to really have any detrimental effects. These words are in the dictionary and I want to be able to use them freely >:/ ♥♥♥♥ing bull♥♥♥♥.
I'm sorry but I do not agree with your reasoning. The rules of this forum have been set as such to make this a friendly and welcoming place. Swearing, foul language and abuse are simply not welcome. Nor will they ever be. Many users find such behavior offensive. Just because you do not does not mean it's acceptable behavior at all.
If you want to swear feel free to do so elsewhere, but don't do it here.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the use of swear words, especially when people use them unnecessarily in everyday speech.
I would agree that it should be a parent or guardian's responsibility to teach their children about swearing, and I think we should be helping them by censoring swear words. There are children out there who don't know about swear words so why should we let them see these words on a family-friendly site?

There is no such thing as "swear" words. ANY, I repeat, ANY word can be used in a derogatory manner.
Take for example, the word "Orange". You cannot even rhyme this word. But suddenly, "URFACE IS ORANGE!".
BAM!

I absolutely agree...so why can't you stick to the rules we already have here. Then there wouldn't be a problem, as you so rightly put it.
I expected someone to point that out.
"The only true law is that which leads to freedom" is one of my favorite quotes, it says a great deal and it covers rules, regulations and any other use of supervision and authority.
The whole point of a rule, law, etc is to make life better. They are written very specifically usually in response to something bad happening and intended to prevent that from happening again. However no matter how well intentioned and even if written with real effort to cover every possible circumstance the rules are going to be worse than what they were intended to cover at times. If you apply the letter of the law rather than the spirit you create as much injustice as you would if you obeyed no rules or laws.
So the answer is simple. What is the right thing to do is the right thing to do no matter what a rule/law says on a piece of paper. They are merely guides not anything sacred in themselves. It is people who in the end have to interpet and act upon the intentions set down by those rules and laws. If doing the right thing breaks a rule then break that rule.
Sometimes loyalty is more important than the rule. You have an obligation to friends, family and others who are close to you. If there is a conflict between such then normally it is better to side with your own. Depends upon the rule/law and circumstance. If somebody is harming a child for example all loyalty is severed and it is best to intervene as long as it's truly harm to a child. If it's a parking ticket side with your loyalties. Where your loyalty limits stretch too and break is going to be different for each person and so too is the reaction. Somebody does something so horrific I cannot retain my bonds of loyalty then I take matters into my own hands. That's just me.
Sometimes you have to choose the lesser of two evils. You may be forced to break one rule to avoid breaking another.
Sometimes the consequences are severely out of proportion with the offense. There's nothing wrong with taking your medicine when you make a mistake but that doesn't mean you need to take a thousand doses of the medicine. A minor infraction for example that costs you a scholarship. Best to break rules and cover up the infraction than lose the scholarship over something petty.
When there are rules meant to oppress the people, then it is the duty of all free people to break the rules. In a democracy anyone and everyone has the right to question "the rules". If you don't like a rule, you can raise the issue.
(you want to be able to use swear words) + (people know what words you are using) = you are using swear words
So am I right in saying it is the heart glyphs that annoy you??
If everyone already knows what words you are using, what's the point of censoring them? It's not like when the hearts are removed everyone would go crazy with power and start spamming "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥" everywhere.
Also, if a kid is smart enough to create an account in a forum, I'm sure s/he's definitely smart enough to google "swear words". Why should we not let them see these words? You're underestimating the intelligence of children.

So just because you find it offensive then it's not acceptable? Saying f*ck or any other word is not abuse unless the person intends it to be. I've already referred to this above.
I'd like to quote Stephen Fry because I think he says it better than anyone else.
And the other word is “offense”.
It’s now very common to hear people say “I'm rather offended by that, as
if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing- It's simply a
whine. It's no more than a whine.”I find that offensive.” - it has no
meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be “respected” as a
phrase. “I am offended by that.” - well so ♥♥♥♥ing what? Utterly
uninteresting.
So just because you find it offensive then it's not acceptable? Saying f*ck or any other word is not abuse unless the person intends it to be. I've already referred to this above.
Actually if you read my post you'll realize I at no point did I say I personally find it offensive. I said people find it offensive.
Now before you continue arguing your point bear this in mind, it is easier for you to NOT say something offensive then it is for someone else to not read it accidentally. I am not arguing the case against swearing because it's my view, I'm arguing it because it is the rules. Think yourself lucky you have as much freedom here as you do, most forums I know have far stricter rules. And for the record, given that this forum is privately run and hosted, from a legal perspective, the ONLY right you have is to not participate. So if you do not like the rules as set out by Peter and enforced by the moderation team that you agreed to abide by by continuing to use your account on this forum then leave. Otherwise stop arguing a case you will not win. The decision had already been made the last time someone tried to argue this same case and I do not see Peter revising his decision just for you.

By "you" I didn't mean literally you. "People find it offensive"? Proof, please. ANYTHING said on the internet CAN be mistaken as an offense. I think it's actually HARDER to NOT say something offensive.
I only used "rights" when I was replying to SoulAngel in more general terms. Plus, I was just suggesting an idea and "what I would like to see added to the iSketch Forum". I'm sorry I wasn't around "the last time someone tried to argue this same case", sir. Umad?

Is there any reason for being this way? This is a forum - we are all entitled to our opinions and have to accept that we have differing ones. There is no need to be like this as if anything, it can undermine the point you are attempting to get across.

Now, now there. When you signed up to our community, you agreed to the forum rules. It is quite plain that when you attempted to use swear words that all you got was a little love back ;-). Surely, this was indicative enough that swearing was not considered acceptable and receiving an infraction for 'avoiding the filter' was fair and just.
You may believe that this forum is 'dead', but a lot goes on behind the scenes that you are obviously not aware of - for example visitor messages, private messages etc.
In keeping with the revised forum rules - I will be removing the images that have been posted in this thread. :)

It makes a huge difference, with the * it doesn't say the swear word, it implies it, but with the ú it says the swear word. This is against the rules as simple as that. Frankly you're lucky you haven't been infracted or even banned for using *'s to avoid being filtered already.

LOL. You obviously don't understand the meaning of a 'dead' forum. Private messages and such does not make a forum 'active'. That's silly.
I think the new rule is pretty funny. But really, barely anyone comes on here. What's the harm in posting a few images which IMO are hilarious. This forum is based off a pictionary game and you guys can't appreciate a few good pictures ): And those pictures were posted BEFORE the new rule was made so I don't think they should be removed because it wasn't against the rules at that point of time. Do you really have to be that petty just because you have nothing else to say besides ''Rules can't be changed blablabla...''?
Party poopers.
Anyway, thanks for the entertainment <3

If, by your definition of a "dead forum", this is a "dead forum", then why do you continue to rant and rave about the rules in which you agreed to when you signed up? If you don't like it, you don't have to join in. You could make your own forum where swearing is allowed. Peter pays for this website, so what he says goes.
Fair enough, you suggested an idea, we like new ideas, but I think this is going too far, especially as the mods and even Peter himself has got involved. That's as far as you can go.
Are you going to create another rule just for me again?

i read enough of them, but they're getting repetitive.... but honestly. your argument falls through when you actually use the words in a sentence. if you use the word, you should have a purpose behind it. rather than "i feel like swearing today so I'm going to put the word anywhere I feel like it" -_-
and btw insulting another person's argument by laughing at them doesn't help your case. if your sentence can do without the word, I don't see why it should belong there.
you should also realize that you are one person and you don't own this forum, Peter does. Ches is an admin and others are mods. In the end, it is Peter's choice and he says no swearing. Why you can't respect that amazes me. If you're that against this, find another forum where you can swear all you want and go there. This forum is for people that like and love isketch...swearing should be the last thing on your mind.
....
@SigmundFreud I don't make the rules, I enforce them.
And with that this thread has gone on long enough.
