View Full Version : When and how did you discover isketch ?
jewels

I first discovered isketch when I found my eldest son playing it about 2 1/2 years ago. He was sat at the pc desk so I watched for a while, it was his turn to draw, he drew a camel, wow I thought I want a go, whilst waiting for his next turn to draw my son gave me the mouse, and he told he the basic rules and what the game was about. I was fascinated by the game, so much so, I hovered the mouse over the yellow triangle, pressed it and said "what is that for" :embarrassed: I followed with saying to my son " oh why are all those nasty people slapping you ? I don't think I like you playing this game, nor will your father." Then it was my turn to draw omg , this was all so new to me , this was the night I found out what WTF meant.
I didn't play it again for a few months, by this time my son had left isketch ( he belongs to alot of other game sites).
So that's my story, please tell us yours.
edit: to whomever the person I warned that night i am so sorry.
dear feed back jewels isn't a bad person, nor does she normally vote abuse.

Great thread jewles hun :)
Well my friend showed me iSketch about a year ago. I stopped by her house to drop off some old books and she was playing when I heard all the little sounds. Loved the hug emoticon the most. So I watched her and was there for a great while hugging random people before I went home to play myself. :) I don't think she plays anymore but I do :P

Nice thread, jewels :) And nice story, hehe!
edit: to whomever the person I warned that night i am so sorry.
It was me.. I won't forgive you. I'm going to hold it against you for the rest of your life! Muahaha.
(joking. it wasn't me, people :P)
I joined a year ago now (*happy anniversary to meee*). Though it does seem like much longer. I'm sure I've stated it elsewhere on another thread, so sorry to bore you lot, but I discovered it when I was playing another sketchy game called 'Sketchorama'. Someone came on (while isketch was up and down quite a bit), saying that, "isketch is sooooooo much better than this game!". Couldn't log on straight away (which is why that person was on sketchorama). A few days later, I checked out isketch.. and look.. I'm still there
I have been reading the website 'I am Bored' for ages now. There was once a link there to inklink. On the same link, someone had said iSketch was better, but I ignored that (although it comes in again later).
I played it, and really liked it. I was playing for ages and actually made some nice friends there. I kept hearing them say things like 'oh, shame iSketch is down, it's so much better' so I asked what it was. They told me it was similar so I tried it out. I made my username (Vik80) and my little profile, and then I was off... in an easy room... where two people started picking on me really badly, nothing like I have seen since then on this game. They saw in my profile where I live and called me a Nazi (ok, so the word gets bandied around freely in some circles, but here it is just the worst insult, and I have become very sensitive to it) and a lesbian (which I didn't really care about - it was the nasty force of meaning behind it) and all sorts, and just made the whole thing horrible.
I fled back to inklink with my tail between my legs, and happily played there for a while longer, until it began to get emptier and emptier. It seemed that everyone had come to play that other game (were they crazy? I wondered... what a horrible place!). In the end, I couldn't remember the link back here, so I checked back on the inklink thread on I am Bored and found it. And that's that. Took me a while to find some nice people, but find them I did and now you're stuck with me, HA!
I remember having no idea how anything worked here, and I couldn't tell if I had to draw or not, or even where to look for the word I had to draw! Thinking about it, nothing's changed there...
When I lost my newbie dot, I had to ask what happened as a long message came up on screen, but was quickly lost in the chatter, and a nice reg (posts here) explained it to me, and was nice to me - the first person who really was.

I found isketch via the I am Bored website about 4 years ago. I logged on as kermit22 and was hooked. Hubby constantly asked me when I was I was going to "get" off his computer and were we going to eat ever again. Luckily I was still feeding my 6 mth old son myself so I became expert in feeding and sketching at the same time, lol

I first found iSketch around May 2004. I was a member of the C4 Community and they had a Games thread there. iSketch came up 9.5/10 so I just had to have a look as rarely games reached that high. I was also just fed up with the community type boards and wanted something a little more interactive.
How pleased I was that I clicked that link! I didn't quite grasp the concept for the first couple of games, but I have never looked back.

I discovered iSketch about 3 or 4 years ago when a friend of mine sent me a link to "the 100 greatest online games". I looked through them and the description of iSketch sounded quite fun so I went to play it. At that time I only played a few games a week, just a tad less than the present day me. After a while I drifted away from iSketch, visiting it every few months or so if I got bored.
Then I came back at some point some months ago (somehow I have absolutely no idea when I rejoined exactly). I'd like to thank iSketch for giving me the ability to type without looking, which I had never quite mastered before:razz:
Edit: I think it was around January 2007 I rejoined.

i saw my sister playing it seven years ago. i remember, because i went into some room and someone asked for my age. i was 8, and i told them that. they called me a liar, because my profile said 13.. that was because my sister had been playing on the same computer, and we ended up having to share a profile. she stopped. i did too for a really long while, but i'm back, seven years since i first experienced the game.
funnily enough, when i came back, i was still considered an Animals Easy regular. hah.

Awww, jewels, I love your wee story! How cute
Heh. This was so long ago...back in Aug. 2004, I believe. I have no idea how i discovered it. Probably on MSN Chat (back when it was free, hah!) or bored.com...
And yes, my tribute to iSketch, as NoHints so nicely phrased it:
I'd like to thank iSketch for giving me the ability to type without looking, which I had never quite mastered before

Well kinda like our jewels really. August 2006 I saw BM Jnr play some cruddy version if a drawing game that was on www.jippi.com and he and his CounterStrike mates were all on Skype (before MSN had VOIP) yelling abuse at each other for crap draws.
So I googled pictionary online and then found iSketch. Had no idea at first, but then started to really understand the play and how it all works. Some days I still have no idea, but can win a helluva lot. Except when CERTAIN PEOPLE are playing in the same room. I won't list them you all know who you are. Mostly forumites.
In my first week I met the forum lovelies kisskiss, jewels, buffers and WildCherry. Since then, kissy introduced me to the forum where I have met so many more of our little (yet ever-expanding) community on-line and played against just about all of the forum regulars. It is probably really bad for your health, because I live on the other side of the planet from mosst of you, I have to be up quite late at night to catch anyone online.

well, i discover isketch through my friend's blog where she had a link to isketch (edit: ard 2yrs ago?). i started off as Newbie-278, n it had been my nick for quite some time b4 i changed. haven't met any of the forumites that time, but except for BM though. think have met him b4.
i know the rules as i played along, so quite ok. but my english standard would be consider below average compared to westerners. and my vocab stinks like ♥♥♥♥ therefore, some words i get to draw i've to skip coz i don't understand the meanings... -_-" i realise isketch is a fun way of learning english, and i became a regular soon after that. but i stopped for quite a few months until isketch once again reach me through my schoolmates (edit: last year.)
=]
Ah... A tale rarely told... rofl :P
Being that I'm still a n00b - (Gasps of Horror, I hear from you!) I discovered iSketch maybe 3 months ago = P My work friends and I had been having this pictionary competition. It so happened my boyfriend introduced me to some online gaming site, where i'd seen this sketch-o-rama thing. Unfortunately it confused me so much I gave up thinking it was crap.
So I googled 'online pictionary' so he and I could practice to beat them next round = P. The first coupe of games I just played UK Easy with him. We had some amusing times!!! I lost my newbie dot and away it went.
A certain Ozzie was the first person I encountered, I threw her on my buddy list and the rest, as they say, is history.
3 months later - I can barely go a day without iSketch - See what you people have done to me!!!
/me giggles.
Ok. I did it to myself. Met some Luh-vel-y peeps though! Yay! Friends are fun!

/me claps for another isketch Junkie!
it was 3 years ago. A friend told me on msn to click this link and play a game with himself and another friend. We made a custom room, it was on the nintendo list. And they got bored and left. But I was still interested, I checked out the uk easy rooms, and had quite some fun. Before I knew it i had known a couple people, 2 months later I had 200 wins and a small circle of friends. and all that hasnt stopped growing since, Still wont leave the darn uk rooms!!Why do I have to be so competitive o_O.

It'd be about 3 years ago for me too. I can't actually recall where I heard about iSketch, possibly on a technology forum I would lurk on, but I clearly remember the first time I played. It was during the afternoon and I was in a room with issy, dusk2dawn, m2g, AYEUP and a few others that are still regs. I was made to feel so welcome that I just had to go back again, and again .. and again .. and again .. repeat to fade
These days I rarely venture on during the day, I miss a lot of the daytime crowd. I'm now a night owl usually found haunting the UK rooms until 5am.
I wish I'd discovered it earlier though

4 years ago whilst waiting to go away on holiday... My sister and I were too excited and couldn't sleep. So she logged onto iSketch. I'd never seen it before and I watched her play a while and then decided to have a go myself. A few hours later I was still playing and she'd fallen asleep. I remember my first draw it was the word 'florist' and I mucked up the tools and had a massive pen nib... leading to 'you suck' etc...all this time on and I'm still sucking. The first room I played in was full of n00bs like me at the time. However after having been added to a few people's msns for a natter I accidentally added a monkey to my contacts list... the rest is history.

About 3 years ago my mate showed me isketch and i used to play with her at her house, (i couldnt work out how to download shockwave :S cabbage that i am) used names like Kat.and.Kat or whatever.
About a year later i finally downloaded shockwave and played when i got bored, few times a week, gradually i played more and more until i became the lovely disgusting addict i am today, i never really stopped playing isketch, just a gradual increase of addiction. i think its pretty much exactly 2 years since i became Katie.Lemon :)

I first found the site in 2001, after clicking on a link left in the browser by my sister. I asked her about it and got a demo, then I had a go myself.
I also had a go at my sister for pretending to be 19 when she was actually 15...
I got the name "el_pedro" in 2002 when my mate James at uni discovered I kept a stash of tortillas and fajita sauce in my cupboard. "Old El Paso" became "Old El Pedro" in reference to my real name... and the "El Pedro" bit stuck.

I found iSketch at first in '99 I think it was. I can't remember what website it was now but there used to be an online email thing where you could set up anything you wanted after the @. Like instead of @hotmail.com you could pick @groundallflyingclocks.com or something like that. I'd be grateful if someone could refresh my memory
Anyway, on the log-out screen, there were banners and I clicked an isketch one aswel as a catchphrase one. I dabbled in and out for a few years, not making regular friends or not knowing basic things like type commands etc. I became 'hardcore' last year.
Whatever 2.0, we all know you thought it was one of xxx sites!

Yeah, so at the beggining i vented my frustration of yet another looks-like-porn-but-it-really-wasnt-porn site and became a porn drawing PIA. But now i am better, i only draw stickmen with disproportionately big heads and bulging feet.
I guess it was somewhere in the beginning of 2006. A lot of people on one of my favourite band's forum played it and I played with them a few times. Some of them still play it, but I don't know their names.
I've been playing on and off since then... Well, more off than on, I took a 6 month break at one point, and I play about once or twice a week nowadays.

I've just passed my third anniversary, and kinda still loving it as much as I did when I first found it. It was my brother and his girlfriend that introduced me to the site. Was like gossip, friends told friends, those friends told my brother, and then he told me.
Played with the given Newbie name for about a week, then picked my first username which was Phunkeh. At first I made the fatal mistake of putting my age on the profile, and being called a perv, so the age was quickly removed!
Didn't take me long to find a great bunch of people, the rest is history!
I was the same as Jewels I found sketch through my son playing it on addicting games. he asked me to do the guesses cos i typed faster and he did the draws. We were just addicted straight away but he has moved on to other stuff and im still addicted, he often walks past me on the pc and says "are you STILL playing that game Mum?" Its as much about the friends on there now as the game I think.
Sorry I dont know zackly how long ago but approx 2 years ago.

My sister vodka_babe first found isketch in 2001.
I used to watch her play and think she was an ignorant ♥♥♥♥♥, for continuously playing while i was round to see her.
Then i had my first games, and was hooked right from word go, playing it myself was so much better than watching her play lol.
My name back then was Lady L which i had for ages , then i became a host on a chat site.
And my host name was given to me, it was of course WildCherry, so thats my story, whos next:razz:

I was talking to my friend from school on msn one night when we were supposed to be studying for our chemistry final, dec.2006. My friend asked me if i have ever played the game Isketch before and i was like no, so she sent me the link to the game. We both went into a room and played a few games and eventually went to bed since it was late at night. The next day i ventured into a US room and played a few games by myself. Finally caught on how the game works and kept on going back. Once i opened my mouth in the room, i started picking up friends and got sucked into playing sketchy everyday. I loved it soo much that i spent my winter break on sketchy the whole time, since i wasn't doing anything. During that time i made a lot of friends since i wouldn't shut up in the rooms and Taser started introducing me to all her friends :). One day i actually clicked on a Uk room to see how that was like and now you can't get me out of them :p I play a lot, losing sleep but since this week i have cut back on my hours trying to play less and focus on school

During the summer of around 2003 or 2004, I forget which... A close friend of mine - my siblings & I used to call her our cousin - while visiting our house, asked me and my sister, Have you ever played iSketch before? We didn't recognize the game...
The way she showed us to get to the site was through www.bored.com, and then she scrolled down through the page until she found the www.iSketch.net game listed. She clicked, and I remember seeing the intro as it still is today... the music was the same... The username we used was sydgigiashey, or something like that, which was our 3 names shortened and combined, and I forget what room we went into but I remember that the game was so easy to get into and follow. There weren't any hints, and the layout/color was a little simpler than it is now, I'm pretty sure. A lot of things were different.
We probably played for half an hour and when we went outside to play, we were talking about the game. It was great. For a while that summer, and the next summer, she would play the game with us at our house with the same username. She definitely does NOT play it anymore, but I've been hooked ever since!! Every so often, my brother even plays the game himself.
Good times!

I had a break for a while as we moved house, I had a baby, but here I am ... I'm back! I came back about 3 months ago, made some more friends and I play most days. My partner often gets home from work to find me sketching away and wondering when he's going to get fed!

Wow... that's exactly my story! Well looks like I don't have to post much! Except that I still go back to Graffiti now and then, although it is a lot emptier now (I remember when 3 servers were full, nowadays Apples and Orange rarely gets filled to 200 people). A LOT of people incog there, so there are still lots of regs around. I really like iSketch though, and yeah, the arcade is fun. Not sure if I should post this here.
I agree with others who have said Registrations will be nice, etc.
We can petition Rob until we are blue, but he is the one in charge of iSketch, not any of us. Plus, it says on the log-in screen that "Registrations are not yet available" implying they may be available in the future.
For a free onine game run by a person without whom there would be no iSketch, I think we just need to wait and see.

There are lots of free sites on the internet; very few don't offer registration. That registrations are not yet available claim has been there for years. Waiting to see if they will be introduced hasn't worked in the past.
The registrations would protect both admin and players. However, there would be more importance attached to the owner's responsibility for the issues broached in the imposters/name confusion thread. I think the time has come where players of the game, who keep the rules, and loved it once, are losing faith because they can no longer relax and enjoy a game in a public room without abuse. Once you could start a UC room to have a quiet game, but now you can't invite someone you know unless you check their IP, have a password, or talk to them on msn first because of the recent trend of taking another players ID.
On isketch I can have any name I like, and put anything I like in my quote... however offensive. Great... just a shame I'm not one to abuse that freedom.
The people who are... and some who don't even have that much knowledge of the rules... the site is wide open for this kind of behaviour. You can play there... while the decent players, who can't stand to be around you, either go away, or can't do anything about your behaviour. Great eh? Enjoy!
Better no isketch than come here and tolerate this isketch.

I played iSketch the first time at 27th of February 2002.
I was hooked, the moment I played in a user creator room. A friend showed me this and I'm still grateful she showed me the way to my favorite game.

When I was at college nerdy used to play this other sketchy game similar to iSketch (not inklink) then someone there told her about iSketch so she started playing that. Then when I finished college, the internet pretty much became my life :embarrassed::embarrassed: and I got hooked on iSketch in the process. Oh looky there, I also mentioned how nerdy discovered it :p
Now I seem to visit the forum more than I do the game!

Yeah, Sketchorama, heh.
There were many players on there when I last visited.. about a year and a half ago, lol. Maybe more people are just discorvering iSketch and leaving there :P I must admit.. I did go there a few more times after I found iSketch and told people that sketchy was far better, heh.

I haven't been on the forum in AGES! So many new names!
I discovered isketch a couple of years ago when I went to this site: http://jayisgames.com/ It's a good site where he finds new and old online games, and reviews them. I liked it right away, and played often, blissfully answering in the chat box at times, wondering why my answers didn't appear in the game box, and not knowing what "TAB, you idiot" meant, or realizing that it was meant for me. Eventually I figured out how things work, and made a bunch of new friends, and now I neglect my house and husband in favor of isketch...Oh well.....

Special thanks to my friend, I'm too grateful to her. Won't mention her name but she's someone close to me, but now is 12, preparing for the major exams that is coming in the end of the year so I wish her all the best for her PSLE (Primary School Leaving Examination)!
Thanks to her,
1) That I met my friends, and have some fun times with them too.
2) Expanded my vocabulary knowledge
3) If I didn't know iSketch, I wouldn't have known the forum, and I wouldn't have met you fantastic friends
/me hugs her one and only friend, wishes her all the best for her PSLE

I found it sometime in late '03.
Some guy on a chat was like 'D00DZ THEREZ B TONS OF HOT NEKKID CHICKS ON' and gave a link to iSketch and VOILA. I've been creeping around ever since.
In actually seriousness, I can't remember. I think I was probably on inklink and someone pointed me toward the path of righteousness. Too bad iSketch is responsible for 90% of the wasted productivity in my life...

My sister actually found iSketch on addictinggames.com about, oh god, I'd say 5 years ago. trAce, or Felicia at the time, was my first iSketch friend, and is the only one from way way back, probably followed by Dean, that I still see often. It's kinda sad to remember all the people I used to play with, but there are so many nice people now too, and I am very lucky to have met all of you! I also even got to meet someone in real life from the game, and it was very fun. :-) I have been addicted ever since, and have been drawing staches for many years now. ={P
I too admit that I used to play inklink, ohh the shame! =P
iSketch is the best site I have ever found. I doubt any site will ever rival its awesomeness. =D

OMG.. I can so relate.. only it was my nephew... I do art sometimes for people.. and watched the game years ago about.. "win.. lose.. or draw"... I was hooked.. To me.. it's all about the draw and the way it's presented. you don't have to be the best drawer.. just to get your point across . To me the worst part of the game is the a. "done button".. for those that don't use it correctly..b. the "scribbler" (yet someone still gets it), hehe. . c. the game "ENDS":(... I love you isketch and those that love you back
hahaha.. after all this time .. I'm still a Junior... "I LOVE IT"!!!!!
Tempest suits you.. hehe.. would be a pleasure to play with you.. err.. not in that way..

I only found iSketch last April. I'm registered up to a fans forum for a Football game and they had this thread started about 'iSketch'. Seemed to be a popular thread, so I had a look, and everyone was talking about how cool iSketch was, so I decided to give it a look. I wasn't really sure on what the hell I was supposed to do, and yes I admit in my early stages I did write (hey, I was new, learned from it and never wrote again!). Got hooked on the game and made a friend or two (who I don't see now for one reason or another), and since then have made more and more friends on there.

I discovered isketch around late 2004 or early 2005. Somebody posted it in a paranormal forum and warned us that it was addicting. I soon found myself addicted and here I am once again.

When I discovered iSketch? In 2000, I knew a friend of mine who use to play on it and she was the the one who told me about it.
Wow holly smokes I've been on it 8 years .
I discovered Isketch only about four years ago. I was part of a national auction site community a little like this MB - (Trademe.co.nz) and some of them wandered onto this site and even today some of the regulars from NZ are from Trademe - and sometimes you will glimpse a trademe room set up in the user rooms - full of kiwis and a few australians.
The whole reason I was on the computer at the time was I had just lost my job (nurse aiding for the elderly) due to having a CVA - cerebral vascular accidenct - or a stroke. Isketch was amazing in aiding me to regain many motor skills I had lost and also helped me regain my thinking skills. Today you would hardly notice any side effects ... So while many people in my life and my support network helped me also kudos to isketch for the much needed help it provided me in this area.
Warm love
Nuka
I have no idea how long ago it was that I discovered iSketch. I played years ago for a long while because my sister showed it to me. Not sure how many years ago but i'm thinking it was something like 8 yrs ago because I cannot remember having children when I first played it...and my oldest son is 7 so... Then I stopped playing for a while because I got into some MMORPG's and there was the whole issue of having 3 kids etc. and just recently I got back into playing it...like 3 months ago or so.

I discovered Isketch about three years ago when procrastinating, rather than working on an essay for uni. I have to say though... I've been rather bad and not played it for a few months so I may have lost all ability to draw .

This has got to be embarassing, well i'll explain my story by saying, I was 16 when i started, because I had seen my older sister playing it with our cousin, and i am turning 21 in Sept 2008, so a couple years, but some of the years i was off and on, but all my life I have loved pictionary games. I'm a visual learner, so I really enjoy it. I have made a lot of good friends who i'm glad i've got to know, and new friends as times moved on. Has helped my english skills to where i'm at now.... I have a lot of fun there, and play with great people!.

I actually just discovered this game about a week ago from addictinggames.com and now I'm addicted. I think I love the game so much because it's kind of like Pictionary and I used to love playing that game with my older brother and his friend.
