I made a video (http://www.guba.com/watch/3000157986?duration_step=0&fields=8&filter_tiny=0&pp=6000&query=1171725&sb=0&set=5&sf=0&size_step=0&o=0&sample=1215509289:7156ff81f99289c9fe616787511698bb c4543739) to say I'm sorry for been away for ages :( Watch it here if you haven't seen it yet. Get your popcorn too because it's like 12 minutes long, lol.

In other news I've done some stuff to the forum:

We're now running on 3.7.2 so we've got some cool new features to play with including customisable profiles, tagging ability on threads, I think we can have mini-galleries now on our profiles too I think.

I haven't really had a good look myself yet so you'll have to have a look! The FAQ (http://www.isketchforum.net/faq.php?faq=vb3_board_faq#faq_vb3_user_profile) may have some stuff in there about it so be sure to check that out.
I also updated the arcade (http://www.isketchforum.net/arcade.php?) to the latest version, nothing major, just a security patch and some bug fixes.
I managed to fix the gallery (http://www.isketchforum.net/gallery) so now when you click the links it doesn't drop /gallery out of the URL. It was happening due to a conflict with an SEO mod we have running on the forum.
I've now created Arcade sub-forum (http://www.isketchforum.net/arcade-f30.html) under the 'Forum Games' forum. This is so there's a place to discuss tournys, high scores and sitch. Unlike it's parent forum Forum Games, posts do count in the Arcade forum.

On the subject, there's a thread here (http://www.isketchforum.net/arcade-complaints-and-t2243.html) for complaints about the arcade. I'd like it anyone finds a game that doesn't function on the arcade if they could post the name of it there. As I don't play in the arcade much that'd be really helpful so I can delete the games that don't work.

Coolness.

Hahaha no I'm afraid not, just Cornish Vanilla in the scoop ice cream now. We do however have mint, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry in the soft ice cream. Did you know all the flavour in a carrot in the dark centre core? I'm full of useless trivia :D

Anyway, back on topic. Congrats on the upgrades success, however there are a few lil bugs in the style, well at least one so far, in the "Quick Links" menu, two of the items are missing their actual text.

Well spotted - I'll get on it.

You should see the Admin CP  I feel like I can speak the language fluently now!
Languages shouldn't affect the AdminCP normally? Anyway, with a little bit of work (OK well a lot) that can be fixed. Just a case of using Languages & Phrases->Phrase Manager and going through clearing the "English" translation box for each phrase with a http://www.isketchforum.net/cpstyles/vBulletin_3_Silver/cp_tick_yes.gif in the "English" column where the translation is in Turkish, or moving the translation to the "Turkish" translation box. Will be a slow job though, going through over 522 phrases

Probably a case of either the Turkish language import went wrong, or was not created properly by it's author.

I can have a look for you if you like, but the only problem is it lacks the "human" factor for identifying the difference between "English" translations in English that you've made or wanted, compared to the "English" translations in "Turkish"

EDIT: If you're not worried about the above concern, here is an SQL query that should do it (assuming 7 is the language ID for Turkish and 1 for the default English):
UPDATE `phrase` SET `languageid` = '7' WHERE `languageid` = 1;

Tested it on my own board and works fine.

I'm really liking the private user pages where you can spam, I mean.. post messages to your friends.

For those of you who want to make your page private, but haven't worked it out yet. Go to User CP > Edit Options > tick 'Limit usage of Visitor Messages to Contacts and Moderators' (you gotta scroll a bit to get there)

Edit: After fiddling around with the privacy and breaking my friendship with AJ, lol, it's been discovered that you can still view comments and 'private' pages, just can't add comments on them (ONLY your 'friends' on your list can, once you've done the limited settings on contacts). So err.. yeah, not much privacy there :P So don't add anything that you don't want others to see. :)

Did you also see the SQL query that should/may fix the language issue too? (just for clarification that doesnt affect the DEFAULT phrases, only the translated phrases and the custom "English" phrases.)

Peter
09-07-2008, 01:01 PM
I'm just scanning through the table now. I'm not sure how it's gonna work because surely the text will stay the same even if you change the language ID? Are you running 3.7.2 on your board? If so you could dump your phrase table and send it to my I could just use an inner join to copy your phrases across.

Jobe
09-07-2008, 01:26 PM
Yes I am running 3.7.2. Also, Regarding the text staying the same, the default phrases (which cannot be edited in the AdminCP) use the langauge ID's -1 and 0, where all the custom languages use 1+ So, the Turkish phrases that show when English is the selected langauge for a user, must therefore be in the language ID for English, as apposed to the language ID for Turkish. The only way they would be any different, is if they were imported directly into the SQL instead of through the AdminCP. Anyway a dump of my phrases table can be found at *link removed* (Please remove link when you have it or let me know so I can, also had to zip it as it was 1.9MB unzipped ).

even if the languageid is changed the text and varname fields are gonna stay the same? I am confusing myself? lol

Yeah, the SQL query I listed above ONLY changes the languageid field, and OPNLY if it is already set to 1.

Peter

Report a post is broken and needs fixing FAST I think

double post but not sorry lol

Jobe
09-07-2008, 09:50 PM
The point I'm trying to make is surely it wouldn't do anything?

The following is how the text is retrieved:

1) User opens a page with phrases on it
2) a phrase is first looked up by phraseid and with the languageid of the language the user currently has selected
3) if that doesnt return a value, then the phrase with the phraseid thats being looked up and the languageid 0 is looked up and used instead.

So basically whats happened with your Admin CP phrases, when the turkish language was imported, it overwrote the languageid 1's (English in this case, and forum default) phrases. So moving those to languageid 7 (Turkish if I am right), instead of displaying the phrases for languageid 1 when a phrase is looked up, the forum falls back to languageid 0 instead. The phrases for languageid 0 should not be able to be modified from the AdminCP. Now for the users with Turkish selected, it looks up the phrases for languageid 7, if they dont exist for the phrase required, then it looks up the phrase for languageid 0.

So the actual translation is in the "text" column, the phrase name in the varname column and each phrase is in the table more then once if it has a translation.

If you created a "new" language, and then selected that as your language, without translating any of the phrases, you SHOULD have all the phrases in English (languageid 0 since the new language doesn't have any phrases for it's languageid in the phrase table until you add them through the AdminCP)

So all in all, the only way the query wouldn't do anything is if somehow the Turkish phrases had gotten inserted as languageid 0 instead of as 1 (which is what I think they have) or 7 (which they should have been)

Hope that makes it easier to understand.

Peter
09-07-2008, 11:05 PM
Haha, yes, thank you I get it now! For future reference I think 5 is the ID for the Turkish language. Most of the ones in the phrase table are set to -1.

Jobe
09-07-2008, 11:07 PM
It may well be 5, I got the values from the HTML for the language selection box. hehe

You can find out for sure by looking at the "language" table.

<option value="1" class="" selected="selected">-- English (US)</option>
<option value="3" class="" >-- Español - México</option>
<option value="2" class="" >-- Italian</option>
<option value="4" class="" >-- Nederlands (Applinet-vertaling)</option>
<option value="5" class="" >-- Svenska</option>
<option value="7" class="" >-- Türkçe</option>

Nono, it's a case of making sure all the English phrases (the forum messages, not posts) are in English not Turkish, because I'm sure as you'll know, from time to time you'll see some messages in Turkish when your language selected is English for example.
