Yes - I tried that and nothing happened!

OK.

Sorsie - TF - shall we have a Navy Battles 4-way? Who else wants to play? I've made a bigger one too for 8 people.

He can only go forwards or backwards in Sacksmash and that's by using the right and left arrow keys as people have said. If you press the right arrow key lots of times he'll jump/run forward faster, and if you press the left arrow key multiple times he'll move back faster. *shrugs* That's it I think? If it doesn't work, I've no clue what's wrong.

oooh oooh I do.... hmmm just one thing... so things have kind of changed over the past few years... like the arcade section... and do i have to play at the same time against my opponent, or is it just my highest score?

Basically you enter a tourney.. And you play however many games has been set for that tourney (well you play however man submits you have for that tourney) Once you've both played it's whoever has the highest score out of you and the person who is playing within those set submits that you have. :)

Does that make sense?

Don't forget the time limit catch. Even if you have a higher score than your opponent, if you don't play for 7 days from your last game (say you're waiting for your opponent to play or something), then you'll be disqualified, and your opponent can go through on a lower score.

lol yes. I didn't see any point in trying tbh. When the tournie was first put up, you hadn't memorised all the moves, so I was interested, but now, it's always going to come down to you and Donuts, so I have no chance. But it will be interesting to see two tournies between the two of you......who has the most stamina.....good luck :)

Man.. I totally messed up in the navy battles tourney :(
I'm so used to pressing 'refresh' when I find that my first level has gone badly, lol. I didn't do it in the tourney, though I did almost a few times! Thank God for the big red "do not refresh" warning!

I think you can beat me on that one, saffypoo :)

Btw, how on earth are you guys getting 40,000 in the end of the first level? The most I've managed is 20,000, lol. I have a strategy for making sure that the computer gets as little as my ships as possible (or at least I think it does..) but I suck at using my weapons wisely, lol XD

Deadlock
11-04-2009, 09:54 AM
Never made 40,000 at end of level 1. Always around the 38-40k at the end of level 2 though.

If anyone can get 40k at level one I'll kiss their feet

I played this at work the other day and kept screen grabs of each level as I progressed, until it bushwhacked me on level 5. Wish I had them, I'd post them, they look great with their entire side just covered in my hit marks, all weapons discovered

I think when you get to level 7, thats probably the level where you're going to just find them FAST otherwise you're dead. So levels 1-6 do your best, and aim for a minimum of 16000 per level to get 96,000. If luck is on your side on level 7 you will get 10-12k and be in with a chance of high score. Ironically I didn't use any particular strategy when I got my Highest of All Time, I was in a hurry and just clicking all over the place.

MrsNerdinator
11-04-2009, 10:03 AM
Okay, my bad, but 38-40k at the end of level 2 is still great -_- I don't get anywhere near that, lol.

And level 7 does suck! My God! Two of the 4 tourney games sucked at level 7. Got all my ships straight away. One of them with only two other aims >.> Cheating 'puter!

It cheats.. and yet.. we're still addicted! LOL

End of level 4, it started getting Artificial Intelligence and began locating me! Still, on course with 67,825 points ... nearly 17,000 per level which is working out good so far. Takes me to 102,000 if I succeed on 5 and 6, then 7 I'll just torpedo like crazy and if it's high enough I use "Submit".

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i78/deadlyrs125/endoflevel4.jpg

End of level 5 ... its getting more accurate with its hits. Level 2 4 and 6 are usually good for bonus ammo, so lets hope I can make up my 5k shortfall from level 5

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i78/deadlyrs125/endoflevel5.jpg

At this stage am on 80,030. Need 20k from level 6. Oh dear.

Only got 10k from level 6, screen grab went wrong. Level 7 cheated its way out of defeat AGAIN. Why am I not surprised? It only had 3 misses.

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i78/deadlyrs125/endoflevel7.jpg

Moral of this game: Hit it hard, hit it early, levels 1-5, aim at 18k and as much ammo as you can find.

Okay, a couple of people have asked how to get such a high score in Skate Park.
So, without giving away *all* my secrets ;) , I will give the following hints:

1. There are 3 pages of instructions that should be read carefully.
2. Through trial and error, I have worked out a series of moves on the ramps that give me consistently 590 or 660 points per jump, depending on how confident I am feeling - sometimes up to 730. Don't miss a ramp!
3. Remember you are a teenage skater boi - treat the police cars with contempt.
4. If you play it often enough (like any of the games) you will notice patterns - eg that the police cars appear behind you in threes, and that the high scoring manouvres alternate - ramp / something else / ramp / something else / ramp.

I think that might be enough.
Happy skating

Navy Battles (again )

I suppose this isn't really tactics but one thing that I have noticed after playing many, many games of this is that the computer tends to bunch up the ships. So, whenever I get a 'hit' - I tend to play around that area in the hope of getting a hit. Deadlock's screenshots (which I have 'borrowed' might make you understand this a bit better) as they clearly demonstrate how the computer does tend to bunch them up a bit - however, there are always some rogue ones placed out of the way (and normally to the side or as far away as possible as the 'main bunch').

Screenshot 1

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i78/deadlyrs125/endoflevel4.jpg

Screenshot 2

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i78/deadlyrs125/endoflevel5.jpg

Screenshot 3

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i78/deadlyrs125/endoflevel7.jpg

Likewise, if you click autoplace - the computer tends to place them in a similar way. What I do then is use autoplace regardless (can't be bothered placing them all individually) and then move them around a bit until they are separated.

As a rule, I deploy all my air bombs first and randomly throughout the grid. If I get a 'hit' I leave it. Then I deploy my 3 x 3 bombs around the rough area's that I have 'hit' (but not too close). After this, I 'kill off' all the identified battleships and use the remaining torpedo's to hunt for the rest of them.

It's not a sure fire way (no pun intended ) to get the battleships - but this system does seem to work for me :)

storm
14-04-2009, 06:59 PM
Yeah TF, I've noticed the clumping too. I've also noticed that when there are islands, the computer likes to stick ships close to an island.

I use the 3x3 squares bombs first in each corner of the grid, then the air strikes randomly over the grid.

Why is everyone sharing their secrets for Navy Battles lol? xD

MrsNerdinator
14-04-2009, 08:28 PM
I do the air attacks, torpedos and then the 3x3s.

To be honest, none of the strategies that I've done have worked out terribly well... but that ^ at the moment seems to be the type of flow that I'm playing with these days.

Oh, and as for placing your ships.. I used to scatter them around. THEN.. I decided to just place them altogether (touching as well).. and noticed that the computer seems to find them less.. O_o except of course, when it gets to level 7.. meh. Hate level 7 :/

Oh, yes, now that you mention it, I see how my score's different from the rest. I have no idea how the scoring in Mahjong Connect works and don't care xD I only know that the faster you do it and the less hints you use, the better.

Maybe it had to do with the bonus points for completing a level. I noticed the points level going up but I didn't pay much attention to it coz I was focusing on the game.

Oh, and *every* game, it's a battle between me and the computer to see whether I can click 'next game' before the 'new game' screen loads... I just think of it as part of the game now

and thanks ^_^

Saffron
16-04-2009, 12:33 AM
Hmm. I never noticed about the hints either. Heh, I've been playing that game for so long....Level 1 is all about speed, so I tend to use the hints if I get stuck, so that the timer doesn't tick down. I won't even bother with Level 2 unless I get a score of 950 or more now in Level 1. I might have to experiment with the hints thing and see just how many points you lose.....

storm
16-04-2009, 12:37 AM
Ah, no, the hints don't seem to take points away. 10 points for every match you make + bonus points for time left. Think that's it.

jenni939706
16-04-2009, 12:40 AM
:0 how'd u manage to get 3 points more than me stormyyy.... lol, and i thought the time left still only came in multiples of 5...hm... ah well XD

Saffron
16-04-2009, 12:42 AM
Yes, I just tried it too XD.
If you match fast enough, you can make the timer add time btw.
Level 2 is different though, speed is not the most important factor, although you still get more bonus points for having more time left at the end. You have to be very specific about which matches you make in level 2, so as not to delete other tiles. ^^

Yeah, I prefer Mahjong Connect to Mahjong Normal... at least you don't spend ages only to find you were screwed from the start.

db1986
16-04-2009, 11:00 AM
I think I have found a reason for some of the tiles to "disappear" on level 2 of Mahjong Connect.

On level 1 if you match tiles near the top and bottom, the other tiles nearer the centre will move outwards towards the top and bottom edges i.e. moving in one direction (up or down)

On level 2 the tiles move towards the corners i.e. in two directions (up or down, and then left or right). I think that if two tiles are due to go into the same place, one will overlap the other thus removing it from the board.

Using this logic, it explains why tiles only disappear on level 2. On level 1 they can only move up or down so there is no chance of any overlapping. I'm not entirely sure if this is the only reason this happens on level 2, but it does kinda lead on from the logic of level 1. Also, I'm not sure of the order of "moving", whether it moves up or down before it moves left or right or vice versa.

Saff I've a great idea for your Maths Quiz.

Saffron
16-04-2009, 11:31 PM
Hmm. I thought it ws broken too! Do you mean that when it wedgies you at the end of Level 1, that's just part of the game? o.O
Other than that, the secret is just to connect the tiles in such a way that you delete no (or very few) other tiles in the process.

storm
16-04-2009, 11:37 PM
Lol, no, that end of Level 1 'wedgie' is just a wedgie xD But I think of it as part of the game anyway xD Annoys me less that way to think of it as part of the game :D

I understand how Level 2 works now, tried predicting what would happen if I deleted something and I was right, but I don't think I'll master that game still.

Saffron
17-04-2009, 12:05 AM
....but I don't think I'll master that game still.
Mhmmm....I seem to recall you saying something similar about Submarine, and then you went and sunk my highscore......^^

....great idea for your Maths Quiz.....
LOLOL - if I put that in as part of the Maths DUX, I'd have to get you to mark it - I don't really understand how it works. All I try and do is connect tiles side by side or without anything in between the connection line, and for some reason vertical connects seem to delete less than horizontal ones. Oh, yeh - and I try and work from the inside out. That's all to my secret I'm afraid.

I guess it's like any game with a random element - the more you play it, the more chances you have of getting a lucky set of tiles....

And Nerdy - I've been playing Mahjong a bit lately, but just for enjoyment - I hardly ever get that one out. If I did ever beat your highscore, it would be pure luck.

storm
17-04-2009, 12:57 AM
Okay, I'll post what I found out anyway, because I didn't find it out to keep it to myself lol

Basic rules:

the board is divided into 4 parts: top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right.

The effect of any move you make will be restricted to the section that the tile you choose is in. i.e.
+ If you choose two tiles that are in – for example – the top right section, only the tiles in the top right section are affected (but not all of them – only some, as I will explain later).
+ If you choose two tiles that are in two different sections – for example – the top right, and the bottom left, then only the tiles in those sections are affect (but again, not all the tiles).

When you choose to delete a pair, two things can happen
1) another pair gets deleted (see Additional deletions)
2) Tiles shift (see Shiftings)

Additonal deletions:

Additonal deletions happen vertically.

+ in the top half – an extra pair gets deleted directly below the chosen pair
+ in the bottom half – an extra pair gets deleted directly above the chosen pair

+ If the chosen pair is in a column (vertically stacked), the additonal pair to be deleted will also be in a column (the next two tiles below the chosen pair)
+ If the chosen pair is in a row, the additional pair will also be in a row (the two tiles directly beneath the chosen pair)

However
- an additonal pair will only get deleted if the tiles are in the same section as the chosen pair
and
- if there is no tile beneath or above a tile in your chosen pair, then nothing will get deleted

Shiftings:

There are two parts to this because two pairs get deleted.

When a chosen pair is deleted:
+ tiles on the same row(s) as the chosen pair shift horizontally to cover this space.
In the left half – tiles shift to the left
In the right half – tiles shift to the right

When an additional pair is deleted:
+ tiles on the same column(s) as the additonal pair shift vertically to cover this space.
In the bottom half – tiles shift downwards
In the top half – tiles shift upwards

Example 1:

I delete Row 4, Column 5 & 6 (the tiles that look like a stick person)

http://i42.tinypic.com/29mabk8.jpg

http://i40.tinypic.com/25ur1fp.jpg

Effects:
1) because the chosen pair is in the top half, the pair below my chosen pair gets deleted (Row 5, Column 5 & 6 get deleted)
2) row 4 shifts left to fill in the gap left by my deletion
Nothing shifts vertically to fill the gap left by the additional deletion because the additional deletion tiles were on the edge of the section

Example 2:

I delete Row 10, Column 7 & 8 (the plus sign tiles)

http://i41.tinypic.com/20b0qzd.jpg

http://i41.tinypic.com/bgejbd.jpg

Effects:
1) because the chosen pair is in the bottom half, the pair above my chosen pair get deleted (Row 9, Column 8). Because there's no tile directly above the Row 10, Column 7 tile, nothing gets deleted there.
2) Column 8 tiles shift down to fill in the gap left by the additional deletion of one tile. Note that the Column 7 tiles shift down also, as if an invisible tile were deleted.
Nothing shifts horizontally to fill in the gap left by my chosen pair because the tiles were on the edge of the section

Test time ;)

I delete Row 10, Column 1 & 3 (the green SUM tiles)

http://i41.tinypic.com/2dl4ozm.jpg

What should the effects be?

1) because the chosen pair is in the bottom half, the pair above my chosen pair gets deleted (Row 9, Column 1 & 3).
2) Column 1 & 3 tiles shift down to fill in the gap left by the additional deletions
3) Row 10 tiles shift to the left to fill in the gap left by my chosen pair

Random RH but putting it here too ...

I posted a while back about another site that had a hell of a lot of games like the ones we have here, Pacman etc, well they also have Navy Battles but it's called Navy War. There are only 3 levels and none of them feature islands. Highest score is 58,015.

So far I've just completed level 1 and I've got over 50,000! Jeeez - its literally giving away missiles and torpedos with every hit. If you can't make it out, in my torpedos I've got 16 ... SIXTEEN ... torpedoes ... and that's not counting the ones I already used! Must have had 15 cluster bombs too! I like this game - A LOT!!!! Mwahahahaha....

Just something I noticed about Navy Battles...

If you use the missle and it locates the first part of the ship, the next parts of the ship are usually below the hit or to the right of the hit. Saves needless clicking and points to check those two areas first.

Whoa Look Out Deadlock.
We have a new Navy Battles Champ.............. ^^

Excellent score! Woop!

Tending not to play so much on here these days tho .... tvfunspot is where I'm attacking scores

Navy Battles also seems to be a test of patience, if you can bear the wobbly screen every time you get hit, then fine. If, like me, you get irritated by it, you just end up killing all their ships in an attempt to get it over with, and miss all that lovely bonus ammo

Ooooh storm. Your funny scores in Mahjong Connect: I had to do it today to make sure I didn't get wedgied out of the tournie, so I clicked "Next Level" very quickly and got an odd score (ie not a multiple of 5). I think it's because we clicked "Next Level" before it had finished adding the bonus points left for time......so even though we miss out on some time bonus points, we are guaranteed to go through to Level 2.

My aim with that game now is to actually complete Level 2 so there are no remaining pairs. I wonder what is next.........^^

OH MAN!
I just realised I could have got the second highest score in Navy Battles (on the highscores table) but nooooo.. I decided to get my high score in the tourney game! Why does it happen where/when you don't want it to happen?! >.>

Well done Nerdy - but commiserations on your highscore thing :(

Ahahah twice my mahjong connect game has been a poop. -_-
Once it did the whole writing over the screen, then the second game it just went black when the game hadn't finished. O-o

Saffron
02-05-2009, 09:21 AM
storm has found that if you click 'Next level' before the rest of the timer runs down at the end of Level 1, you don't get wedgied with the writing over the screen. So let it run down as much as possible to get max points, but not all the way. I ahve done this in my tournament games, and whilst I have missed some points from level 1, at least I get to attempt Level 2.
Not sure what happened with the second game, I've never had anything like that. o.O

Sorsie
02-05-2009, 09:25 AM
Mmm, before I used to hardly ever get the writing over, so I was just seeing if I would, but thank you for the advice :)
And yeah, it was very odd... I was playing I think my bonus time was nearly out, but I'm sure I had some left, but maybe not, it went to game over then it went black so quickly.. O_o lol

RC: I used to be so good. Now what's happened?

Lowest of the lowest score in the Navy Battles Tourney! Told you this would happen if I shared my superior knowledge of how to play!

Even Nerdy got over 110k! Jeez!

Lol, the real competition begins when we all know the rules. You had it easy when no one knew how the game worked ;)

In my defense *cough* I might have eventually worked out that the weapons were there to be USED! eventually.. LOL! God, I can't believe that when I played at first, I thought I was just collecting them to gain points. Didn't think I actually needed to throw them around, lol XD

I thought I once had a strategy.. but it turns out when I got my high score (which is in the stupid tourney game!) I was just playing aimlessly :/

My mission in life? To be the champ in that game.
Ha.. my life is sad XD You can tell I'm on semi-bedrest still :P

storm

Ah.. appear to be having a stroke of bad luck in the Navy Battles tourny. Was distracted in the second one, and completely forgot to use my bonus ammo, got the last ship then realized I had ammo left. :(

Dumb highscore, as a result. Pah.

MrsNerdinator
06-05-2009, 07:51 PM
Oh, something similar happened to me on my first go :o Got deafeted at level 5 with a similar score to yours. This is how that level started:

Yeah, I sent TF a pm about it y'day.

Oooh Saff and me against each other! Should be a good one, especially since it seems more likely to crash in a tourny for some reason!

Saffron
12-05-2009, 11:34 PM
Yes, I found that :'(
However, I don't take the risk in tourny's now, and sacrifice the few points to ensure I get to level 2....

I was just having a few games of Mahjong Connect....and I got to the end of Level 1, clicked 'NEXT LEVEL' just before the time ran out. Level 2 came up, it flashed quickly, score changed from 965 to 963 and the timeline dropped to halfway!! Has anything like that ever happened to you?

storm
17-05-2009, 03:45 AM
Can't say it has.

Although once, I paused my game just after I got to level 2, and came back to it 30 mins later and the timer had gone down halfway even though I'd paused it when it was 'full'.

freakiness..uh...so like..for mahjong connect, i was finishing the second level when it suddenly went black? (the screen i mean, not my entire computer screen, just where the board was supposed to be)
has that happened before?

storm
21-05-2009, 02:35 AM
That's not happened to me before. The only problem I have with MC is the overlapping screens and that doesn't happen often nowadays.

Sorsie
21-05-2009, 08:40 AM
It's happened to me before. It really miffed me. Was this in tourney or not? Because mine happened in tourney, and it's never happened before. Because I think it might be something that happens when the games played in screen? I dunno. -shrugs-

MrsNerdinator
21-05-2009, 01:17 PM
OH NO! The Navy battles tourney was being a wedgie! I played 2/3 games, and when I clicked 'play' to play my third game, this came up:

"You've already played 3 times for this round. Please wait till your opponent plays to see if you advance to the next round."

Um, that's news to me! I've never seen this message before. And how is that even possible? That message can only come up if you click to play the game... O_o...

*sigh* I was hoping to get a better score, as well. I ruined the other two! :(

jenni939706
29-05-2009, 10:55 AM
hm. had to delete my message to say this but

peoples :) dont forget ur arcade tournys XD :D

storm
29-05-2009, 11:03 AM
You don't need to delete a message just because you were the last poster in a thread. If it's been more than 24 hours you can double post :)

I'll play my tourny later today, after my exam...

jenni939706
29-05-2009, 11:04 AM
oh lol XD well, no one told me that double posting was allowed after 24 hours XD ah well, my last post wasnt that important anyway :)

i just wanted to remind peoples XD cause no one's been playing their games :) and as much as i'd love to win just because of that XD its kinda unfair ;)
