 I have spoken to as many Aussies as I know and quite a few are keen to do an Australian meet.
We have a date - weekend of 13/14 October
We have a place - Sydney
This should give those of us not in NSW time to pick up a cheap flight.
Further details will be posted as they are arranged, but for now, that's all I have!

Please note - It's NOT AT MY HOUSE - no matter how much Saffron tries to tell you it is. Although the discount on group divorces may be a benefit to both of us if I did have a house full of iSketchers.
Depending on where it is though, I may have to meet up with you mid-way - Mrs BM's birthday is on the 9th, and that usually means going out for dinner on the weekend.
Will try to convince her that we should go out on her actual birthday AND 6 Oct so I can free up the 13/14 and get bonus brownie points.
Have you thought of anywhere more specific than Sydney? It's kind of a big place you know - not like Taswegia. Scatikins suggested maybe Parramatta - which is becoming the business centre of Sydney. There are some good pubs and bars there and hotel prices may be cheaper than the City.

Best Priced Flights to Sydney
Our Best Flight Fare from HEATHROW to SYDNEY is from £430 + £201 tax (Total £631) flying with Korean Airlines. Leaving on 09 October 2007, and returning from Sydney on 16 October 2007.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
cherry hun, flights to Sydney in october, aren't too dear, I have found some from as low as £380 + tax. An over night stop (9 hours +) in the far east can also bring the price down a bit.
edit: don't think I would go, as much as i would love to met the oz lot, 1) I wouldn't leave my family that long.
2) i'm not a lover of long haul flights/ multi plane trips.( unless someone wants to pay for me to fly business/first class)

I don't think so. I have only so much carpet. And it's reserved for my clothing.
Although, if you'd all love to come and share my charming siblings bedrooms.. There's an 8 yr old and a 6 yr old who'd LOVE your company :P

Ok enough with the stabbing. Do you lot like anything besides the normal boozing, which should be mandatory?
The brits appear to have established a 10 pin bowling activity as a regular thing - will look for a place that does karaoke if you want to - Here is a link to hotel prices around Parramatta.
Hotels - rough guide
http://www.check-in.com.au/Sydney/Parramatta_hotels.htm
And when I get a second or 3 to research it.
Did I hear you say you wanted Karaoke AND bowling??? This place is just outside Sydney - not sure what its like never heard of it until I googled it. If you are staying in the City its an option - but if it's to be Parramatta then there's really not much point unless you want to play on the CityRail Network.

Saffron
31-05-2007, 12:57 AM
I personally am not that interested in bowling, doesn't mean to say others aren't and it shouldn't be done.
I have been asking all Aussies I know on isk each time I go on to send ideas to the email (or yes scats, can do it via MSN if they have it - same address). There's only a few aussies that are forum members so not everyone reads this.
I was thinking to maybe just come up with an itinerary based on those suggestions. The important thing for now is to let people know the date and that it looks like it is going to be Parramatta.
Appreciate the accommodation info BM thanks.

That would be because there hasn't been a post to that thread for a while. You need to set your browser settings to show more than the last 24 hours. Not sure exactly how - but you just need to play about with your settings.
The thread is still in existence.

If you want to hang out in Parramattatta, then here are some pub options
PJ Gallaghers (http://parramatta.pjgallaghers.com.au/home.html)
One World Sport (http://www.oneworldsport.com.au/)
Bar & Pub Guide to Parramatta (http://www.eatability.com.au/au/postcode/bars_pubs/suburb_EQ_Parramatta/2150.htm)
One World Sport is closer to all the restaurants. PJ Gallaghers is a pretty good venue.
If you want to go out in Sydney city, then there are a gazillion options.
Someone suggested The Orient (http://www.orienthotel.com.au/)
And here is just a list of the pubs around The Rocks and Circular Quay (http://www.eatability.com.au/au/postcode/bars_pubs/suburb_EQ_The%20Rocks/2000.htm)
There's a fantastic Pizza place in The Rocks - been there forever, called Zia Pina's - went there one night - got the bill - decided to have sambuca shots and by the time we finished, we'd doubled the bill:twisted:

Sandgroper = Westralians
Croweater = South Ozzies
Mexicans = Victorians
Cane Toads = Queenslanders
That Italian place in Parramatta isnt bad - the one in the old church - and I think Sicilians (is that it?) isn't bad either.
PJ's is great.
Icecream doesn't go with beer very well.
Uniform is hidden in back of cupboard as I don't use it in my job.
And the Parramatta River is more of a glorified Stormwater Drain isn't it?
but who will save you from him?
Nobody can. Unless Mrs BM fronts up:twisted:
A Sandgroper is a Western Australain b. (you know that far away place on the other side of the country where the scenery is the only thing more beautiful than the women ..rofl
Hows everyone going with there accomodation ect Ive found a few places but not knowing Sydney at all would like to know where everyone else wants to go.I need to know asap because since Im going all that way Im going to spend a few weeks traveling around (hopefully QLD ) Im also going to go to Bondi ect after the weekend so if any of you Aussies have any suggestions on where to stay or what is the best places please let me know!
Does anyone know how many people are looking at coming ?Hopefully Everyone will have a brilliant time and lots of drunken anarchy will be on the cards..Bell thinks Bad Manners should leave his badge at home because she is a bit of a devil .A whip will suffice I think

I refuse to go to the one in the old church, on principle. I think it's tacky. Anyway :P Sicillians is lovely. Mmm...
Never been in PJ's, but it looks nice :)
Ice-cream goes fantastically with anything... Err... Not that I drink beer... Ok fine, we'll skip the Ice-Cream. Party pooper.
Stormwater drain? More like a glorified Sewer... Ha :P
But Parramatta is like a glorified Cess (sp?) pool.. So such is life!!!

/me usually finishes it.
Haven't really thought much about where to point Bell in Bondi either - Maybe the city is best - the Lindt Concept Store & Cafe in Martin Place for hot chocolate, chocolate cake or just chocolate in general would be a good start for you.
Bondi Diggers Club should see you ocasionally bump into Sara Murdoch (nee O'Hare) (http://www.webwombat.com.au/lifestyle/fashion_beauty/ohare.htm),
Pretty boy Craig Wing http://www.sport.unsw.edu.au/scholarships&Coaching/images/scholars2000/headshot_craig_wing.jpg (http://www.sport.unsw.edu.au/scholarships&Coaching/images/scholars2000/headshot_craig_wing.jpg) from the Sydney Roosters and many of the other players.
You really should try the Bridge Climb over the Sydney Harbour Bridge http://www.bridgeclimb.com/images/gallery/small/Bri_Photo1_small.jpg (http://www.bridgeclimb.com/index_au.htm)

I didnt realise Victorians had a GOOD reputation?

Nope they don't have a good one - it's a bad reputation which they must uphold and that's a good thing.
Round ball game that's the game those fellas went to Europe for or something last year - not the real man's game (well done Freddy Fittler) or even aerial ping-pong (go the Bombers) - you know it - the one where you don't have to be particularly athletically skilled, so much as a NIDA (http://www.nida.edu.au/)graduate.
Red Bull and vodka is fine if you are a girl (or a boy who doesn't like girls). It's not something Tommy Raudonikis, Norm Provan, Arthur Summons or Arthur Beetson would drink. I doubt you'd see Terry Lamb, Blocker Roach, Chief Harragon, Mick Cronin, John Sattler, Steve Mortimer, Cement Gillespie, Mal Meninga, Daryl Brohman, Gorden Tallis, Trevor Gilmeister, Billy Moore, Shane Webcke, Wally Lewis, Mark Geyer, Terry Randall, Eric Grothe, Ray Price or Danny Buderus drinking it. (Just Google any of those names with HARD MEN RUGBY LEAGUE - you'll find none of them with Red Bull and Vodka in their glass).
You might find Mark Bosnich and his mates or the cast of Priscilla Queen of the Desert drinking Red Bull and Vodka - but not any real men.
/mw wonders why b.. wants a Qantas Flight????
You know, now that I think about it. I get the round ball thing =P And phew. Im allowed to drink Vodka and RedBull and not get discriminated against by the big bad BM. Luckily for you it's rare I drink Red Bull, or Vodka, and thus would hardly think to combine the two.
And there's nothing wrong with the soccer, BM. I watched it. Apart from the whole dramatic aspect (****ing Italians) where you need to be a better actor, then player to win the game, it has a certain element to it that is totally enthralling.
I'm sure it's horrifying for you - I actually KNOW some of those names you mentioned. Albeit very few. As much as football is wonderful - I really don't get into it much =P
Real Men drink Beer. Right. =P Go for it. Personally find the stuff vile.
/flirt Qantas Flight.
Quick... F... I believe is the technical name. But. Anyhoo =P

Ok enough time wasting - does anyone have any idea if the Sydney meet is happening or should we just postpone it?
Scat has finished school and is probably hanging to go out - haven't seen b... in a while so who knows?
In the interim - it's my birthday on Melbourne Cup day this year so if anyone is interested in a meet around then we could sort something out.
ALSO - Since my World Tour of Britain, I have been giving some thought to an
"iSketch World Tour Downunder Meet - Sydney 2009!"
That way all the northern hemisphereans can save their pennies and make plans accordingly. It's cheaper for the Brits to come here on package deals than it is for us to do it in reverse.
Thoughts - Suggestions?
Write your name and undress on the back of an envelope and post your thoughts here.
Aww BM$!
(Tis true - I haven't been around for yonks - Been busy being absorbed in life - NO idea what's wrong with me!)
I was just thinking how much I wished we'd done the meet! :(
/me imagines all the drunken tragedies we'd have become.
Happy Early Birthday for Melbourne Cup Day! Whit Whoo!
I'm up for anything - Unfortunately, Am all tied up with "studying" for exams till the 13th of Nov - then I'm finally freeeeeee! Yay! :D
(Scat should be free from next Thursday! Lol)
Then we can party it up whenever, whereever, however.
How many people would really be interested though. It would turn into more of a "Sydney" meet by the sounds of things :P
/flirt DownUnder meet 2009!
