Woohoo not long to go now- and it starts the day before my birthday! : ) but yeah...I'll be on holiday too- and probably having way too much fun to worry about it much :p I'll keep an eye out for the swimming and gymnastics though =) And yeah sworraps ^, maybe! The Host Country always does really well...and China has been improving for a number of olympics now.

Aww really? ^ Happy (18th??! :D) in advance Pips <3- and hope you have an awesome time there! As for the Olympics- I"m not sure if they could ever live up to the Sydney Ones (of course I'm biased :D). I'll definitely watch the Swimming, Artistic Gymnastics and Diving- and for once..will keep an eye on the Waterpolo because a girl from my school (Gemma Beadsworth!) who was the year above me.. is actually in the Aussie Women's Team :O :D

The Olympics will be tarnished by more drug scandals. Not to sound sceptical but look back at previous events.
Took investigators around 5 years to find Marion Jones to take EPO, after her success in Sydney.
The controversy caused by Kostas KenterisandKaterina Thanou in Athens, caused so many headlines, namely because both were the leading athletes in Greece and the way they decided to dodge the drugs test by faking a motoring accident.
Two athletes are leading the way in the 100m, Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay, but do I think they're clean?
It's hard for me to look at athlectics now as a fair and clean sport because there are so many competing nations and also, riders who competed in the Tour De France, which is notorious for it's drug problems.
If it took prosecutors 5 years to prove that Marion Jones cheated in Sydney then how long will it take to find cheats with more sophisticated methods of drug intake?
I will be watching the Olympics but I will always be sceptical of someone who wins, especially if they're a virtual unknown in athlectics circles.

The Olympics have for years been tainted with drug scandals because of the pressure on the athletes to win. Even if every single athlete was required to have their blood tested each time they competed, the masking agents would cover the performance enhancers. There really is not a simple solution to this problem.
On a related note, the British sprinter Dwain Chambers, who was found guilty of taking THG a few years ago and has served his athletics ban for that, was recently denied the opportunity to compete in the Olympics by the British Olympic Association due to his previous conviction. He is the fastest sprinter in Britain and is now an anti-drugs advocate, so should he have been given a second chance?

Well the Olympics are starting soon...or have they started yet? I can't remember when they were supposed to....if they have, I have missed the opening ceremony
I saw on the news that the Australian athletes have been given leave to withdraw from the Olympics if they feel that the pollution will be a detriment to their health. Then they showed footage of what the pollution looks like in Beijing, and I've never seen anything like it. Pretty amazing, I can't imagine trying to do a triathlon while plowing your way through billowing fumes. I hope they've got it cleared up more by the time the Games start.
Anyway, this is just a general Olympics discussion....I love watching the Olympics! What is your favourite sport to watch in the Summer Olympics? Mine are the synchronized swimming, diving, rowing, and the triathlon.

Oooooh, Olympics!
I love watching the running. XD
Relay, especially :D
And long jump.. um... and javelin, shot put and discuss, lol.
Hmm.. I think mostly running, to be honest. I love watching the brits run. O_o
Oh, and badminton! Dang! They just move so fast :o
Edit: Casta, it's starting on the 8th.

Thanks! Ah, crap I will be a little bit crazy busy that day, getting my full driver's license and other things
Haha oh man, I still remember at the Sydney Olympics when Canadian Simon Whitfield won the triathlon...it was such a great moment, and I swear everyone was talking about it. I love the passion of the Canadian athletes...we don't get a very high medal count (especially in summer Olympics), but every single medal we get, we all know the who, what, wheres about it.
And how about hearing your national anthem played after a particularly grueling fight to win the gold? Ohhhhh Canada!!!!

As people have already mentioned..yeah, the opening ceremony (or the first part) was pretty amazing- we had people over that night =) and we watched it together. My main complaint though was the fact that the Aussies came out third last ....and when they finally did come out- it was in blue (not our trademark green and gold) :o :(. As for the events itself- the Swimming has been awesome :o Of course I'm a little bitter about the finals being in the morning...(Beijing have the same timezone as us)- but wow, the Relays. the IMs (go Steph Rice :D....Phelps! :o)...and the butterfly =) (glad Libby finally won an Individual Olympic Gold <3)) have all been awesome. And I couldn't help feeling happy for my many UK-friends (though not sure how many actually care about :p) :) when I heard that you'd won your first swimming medals in ages! :D
for once..will keep an eye on the Waterpolo because a girl from my school (Gemma Beadsworth!) who was the year above me.. is actually in the Aussie Women's Team :O :D
I managed to catch the end of this match on radio- and wow, I'm so proud :D We managed to beat Greece 8-5- and she scored 4 of our goals. What a star!!

Wow! I bet it was nice to know her while you were at school, and strange seeing her on TV. I also used to go to school with an Olympic hopeful, but they are not playing until London 2012.
Lewis Hamilton was in his last year at my school when I joined. How exciting :)
But not really...

I've not been keeping up with the olympics this year but what I have seen so far has been great. That Jamaican guy btw... PHWOAR! He was like a rocket!
Oh, and whilst I'm here, any other UKers noticed how we really only get shown the sports that team GB excel in yet as soon as there are no GB people competing that sport gets forgotten about?

I still haven't watched any of the Olympics  The Sydney and Salt Lake City Olympics I was addicted to, but my cable doesn't work for my tv so I haven't watched any. I don't think these ones are much for Canadians though...most of Canada is pretty bitter about these Olympics. A couple of days ago we finally got our first medal...so as far as I know, we have two. A bronze and a silver.
Booooooo Canadian government not funding professional sports!!!!!! We had better have a better showing at the Vancouver 2010. Having said that, Canada normally does far better in winter Olympics than summer.
Edit: BAHAHA correction....apparently we have NINE medals now. Shows how much I've been following this....ah yes, rowing is a pretty good one for Canadians...and women's wrestling apparently.
/me considers taking up wrestling.......no, just joking.
