It's been well over a year since I've played my PS2 since I was busy with uni, but now I'm so behind in computer gaming as I haven't bought any new games and my current gamelist is outdated, I would like to hear what consoles you enjoy playing on most and why?

My PS2 is now outdated with the upgrade of the PS3, XBox 360 (think that's the latest one) and the Nintendo Wii.

What is the best gaming console out there and why? They can include the classics and the latest ones on our markets now.

Nintendo Wii because it's the best console (i think) for involving a large group of people and for socialising. Also because it's so different, wiifit for example (not your sort of thing I know Jas) is just something that currently has no competitors from other consoles. I like the wirelessness of it (which I know other consoles have now) and also because it's so simple to use.

the pc outmatches any console, but if i had to choose a console, it'd be the Wii, it's fun. Portable gaming consoles, the nds. It beats the psp and the ngage hands down due to connectivity and assortment of games. But there's also that the games themselves are more fun and the nds is more customizable than any other portable.

I would have to agree and say the Wii also! It is just a great console imo! Very fun and very different!!! And my husband would go ALL out on this topic...he is a Nintendo fan through and through! Though he loves his PC and he likes other consoles Nintendo will always be his favorite!

I'm going for the PS3. The hardware surpasses the Xbox360 (and of course the Wii). Its the sexiest looking in my humble opinion, and comes with everything you need out of the box, where as with the 360 many things like wireless adaptors are an extra outlay.

Also, although its less stable than Microsoft's Live, PS3 onling gaming is FREE! Which is good for me, because I don't play online often enough to justify a charge. And I'm tight. :)

Annnnd... if you can get hold of a 60GB version, you can play all your old PS2 games on it. Pretty hard to get though, by all accounts. I have one. :P

Grab Buzz and Singstar and it provides good party entertainment. Nowhere near as good as the Wii in this respect, but adequate crazy party fun :D

PS3 gets my vote for best console.
Wii comes second for the social gaming.
360 comes third, as its just sat upstairs gathering dust. When Fable 2 finally comes out, I might promote it though...

I have a Wii, and I love it.

Its sooo much fun.

And, it's the best selling gaming console, currently :P

I'd say the Xbox360 due to the large catalogue of games already available. The only real downside, as Ches points out, is that online gaming isn't free - but at £40 a year it does work out at less than £1 a week so I guess it's not too bad. I'd like to see Microsoft at least reduce that, and to compete with the PS3 online they may need to eventually.

Ches, you have all 3 of them? ... Until now I didn't hate you

Yup. Gaming is my main vice. Drinking and smoking take up far less of my time (and rapidly dimished hard earned cash) by comparison!

360 was top of my bill for a while, with all the games available, but I reckon the PS3 has enough titles now :D Although - COD4 is about all I've been playing at the mo - until Star Wars: Force Unleashed comes out! Its a bit of a struggle to decide whether to get it for PS3 or Wii though... PS3 has all the clever engines... Wii has 2 player wii-mote wielding lightsabert battles! Decisions decisions!

Just bought a new PC too... so Guild Wars is being revisited at the mo :)

How do you find COD4? I'm getting the mac version when it comes out next month. There's not a lot of in-game videos around and those that are are mostly from the demo from a conference 2 years ago.

My boyfriend is a gadget freak so we currently have an xbox 360, ps3, nintendo wii, nintendo gamecube, PSP and a DS! My personal preference is xbox, mainly because I was a Halo 2 online addict : / . The Wii is great for having loads of mates round and making idiots out of yourselves! PS3 has great potential but still waiting for more good titles. Xbox all the way! ( oh and played world of warcraft as opposed to guild wars up until a month ago).

the pc outmatches any console, but ....

There is NO "but" about it! In my opinion, the PC is THE BEST for computer gaming... mostly because every other console is for video gaming. ;)

But yeah, PC is my favorite because it gives you way more control over your gaming experience, unlike most game controllers that probably only provide an average of 9ish buttons. On the PC, you can easily use your entire keyboard + mouse which in itself can provide many buttons (more than left and right), plus the scroll wheel which usually gives you great effects!

Besides the controllers, PC games for me are usually way more detailed or involving than any other type of game, especially because most are for one or two players only, and they're typically better with handling the Internet for anything with online features. The games that I play on the PC usually last for months or years, while I can easily play a Nintendo 64 game at my friend's house and be done with it.

I also like PC games because the PC system is easier for me to understand, meaning I can easily go into the game's files, or I can easily add mods or hacks to the game. I don't know anything about Nintendo, XBox, or those little portable consoles for little itty bitty pixel games like Pokémon, so I couldn't do anything with those to make my gameplay better.

There are a bunch of other reasons I completely prefer computers for computer games, but I think I'm done for now!

Technically a console is also a computer. What i was trying to say is that the PC offers the best in gaming as a whole. And there's many factors to that... no only the capabilities of the computer but also the $ factor. How much does a nintendo wii game cost? How much does a fancy PS3 game on a blu ray disc cost? Yeah...

Well, disregarding the cost of the console, I still think the PC is the best -- at least for the types of games I play. I am most familiar with a mouse, and joysticks can be easy too, but also, I like the fact that I can play N64 games on my computer... even with the N64 controller! And that's just an example; I don't exactly know what other games you can play with an emulator!

BTW, 2.0, I was just using your quote as a general statement. I'm sorry if you took my post as a response to your quote individually.

However I still have a Sega Mega Drive :P

I don't really have a favourite console... As I see it, if you want it for casual gaming or just for random fun, Wii is what you want. X-Box mostly for Gears of War, Halo, and whatever other massive titles are on it at the moment, I can't think of any others off the top of my head. PS3 is more if you want the hardcore gamer experience, and are willing to spend big $$$ on each game.

My personal preferences are the Wii and PSP (The two consoles that I have, of course), the Wii is a lot of fun and can be very entertaining with others, and the PSP is merely awesome because it has Crisis Core. Love that game. Also has a few other awesome games... God of war, killzone, tekken.

But, either way, PC is the best, it has DotA and CS:S
