I have a new internet connection through my university but I can't connect to iSketch from it . I've told them this and they assure me that the website has not been blocked by them but it may be that a special port number is being used which is being blocked by my firewall. I've emailed feedback about this but from their automated response it seems they may not reply because they have covered something similar in the Instructions (http://www.isketch.net/instructions/help.shtml) page. Here they give instructions to add the port number for Windows XP but as I use Vista, the method may be different and I don't want to end up with no internet at all  (happened once when I was messing about with IP addresses). Can anyone help:?:

I'm pretty sure feedback will reply to you on this matter. But like you said, it's been covered already. However, if you've stated exactly what you've said up there ^ to us, to feedback, then I'm pretty sure they'd reply and not ignore you..

I don't do Windows or Vista, so I can't help, but maybe someone else here can :)

I didn't quite write to feedback what I've written here 'cos I saw the Instructions page after sending it... if they don't get back to me I'll be more persistant :p
In the meantime I'm hoping someone on here knows something :)

Before you read below, try the following very simple step:
Right click on your internet browsing software (eg. the desktop icon of it), and select 'Run as administrator'. This usually solves most connection problems. XP users won't have as much of these issues because of Vista's updated permissions tool(s).

OKAY, if the above didn't work then I assume you would be using Windows Firewall. If you are, then you can simply add the ports required (these are on the iSk instructions page). You won't knock the internet off or anything because you would only be allowing certain ports; you wouldn't be messing around or refreshing the IP address.
So, if you're using Windows Firewall try this:
Open the start menu then open up the Control Panel
If your view is on Classic view then change this to 'Control panel home' view (these options are located to the left of the window).
Once you have changed the option and the new view has loaded, click the word 'Security' next to the image of the shield (not the links below it).
Where it says Windows Firewall, click on 'Allow a program through Windows Firewall'
Once the new window has appeared, make sure the tab is on 'Exceptions' (located at the top of the window).

If you haven't already, make sure you have added your internet browsing software(if you use Internet Explorer skip this step as permissions have already been granted for it.) to the list by clicking on 'Add program'. Then choose your internet browsing software (eg. Mozilla Firefox) and click ok. Once it has been loaded into the list make sure there is a tick in the box.

After you have added your internet browser to the exceptions list, it is time to allow the ports mentioned on the iSk instructions page. Now, you want to click on 'Add port'. Name this whatever you wish (eg. ISK) and type in the port numbers. (Do both in different names).

Once this is done, check if iSk works (as you have granted full permission to your internet browser via Windows Firewall).

sense/net once pointed out this, about getting around office server blocks.

If you could convince your network staff to open TCP port 1626, that would do the trick. Using Remote Desktop to play from your home computer at work is also an option, but lag may be an issue..

Ask if that port is blocked.

I've allowed iSketch through my Windows Firewall (I don't think that was the problem because I could connect to iSketch using the same firewall with my home internet connection) and the network staff controlling my current internet connection have opened port 1626 but I still can't connect. Any other suggestions?
