View Full Version : Connections and Blitz - Are these new?
Bunji

I recently noticed these 2 new modes and I'd like to tell you that Blitz is a real hit. Fast action game. On the other hand, Connections seems pointless. Most of the time people are playing it using normal rules (not using the previous word) because most of the time the previous word has noting to do with the new one.
Anyway, thanks for giving us more ways to play the game and hope to see what else you have in store for us iSketch junkies.

Neither of these are new rooms, both have been around for years.
I haven't played Connections in a while, but when I did it was mostly played properly. The word being unrelated to the previous word is kind of the point, you need to use some mindpower to link the two words (like in Two Words Big Picture), so It's sad if people don't play properly in there anymore. You might have just caught it at a bad time (although I don't see that room open very often now). If you've never played in 2WBP, you might like to give it a try - you need to draw both words you're given because people need to guess both, and it uses an easier word list.
In the Anything But room, there's always been a high number of people that aren't playing it properly, and I don't see why they don't just play in a normal room if they want to play normal rules.
*cough* Anything But, Blitz and Connections should be made with UK lists please
I used to frequent the Blitz! room when i first began playing, as it was always open, however almost noone plays there these days so it is kinda sad... I have never been in the connections room where people werent playying it right, usually some is there to tell them the rules...
and nohints... take some cough medicine ;)

Blitz! is one of my favourite rooms (when I ever get the time to play - which is sadly diminishing of late *sigh*). Connections and Anything But annoyed me, for more or less the reasons stated above.
Ooo... I feel the need, for some *tournie* speed... It has been a while

I can't handle Blitz!, I can't handle the speed of it, I'm quite a slow typer really.
Connections, Anything But and Two Words BP are not too bad, except that my drawing skills aren't that good, so I don't play these that often.

Aha, in connections if you get that problem tell them. If they still don't play to rules warn em with the !. It's what I'd do anyways... :)
Sometimes they just need a little prod. I mean sometimes it's an honest mistake but sometimes they just don't know how to play xD

I have and then they gang up to vote me out...lol
I really wish more people played something other than English easy. I rarely see anyone playing 5 Strokes or Blitz. Everybody's in English easy.

You could try making your own room Bunji, maybe people will join it if these specialist rooms aren't open. Also you can skip players if they don't connect their words.
For 5 Strokes, either set the stroke limit to 5, or type "/set s 5" during a game.
For Blitz!, set the grace period to 0, or type "/set g 0" during a game.
Although, they are probably wondering about all of the new words in Easy. I quite like the new range of words, although sometimes I find you have to use expert style syllables on some of them. What do you all think of them?
Blitz= fun
The updated list needs to be redone. too many hard words for somebody new, they sure weren't going to guess Residence.
yeah i got Hesitate in an easy room, first off how do you draw that? second off, how does a newb draw that?

Can someone please explain how the new list works?
the /param for easy, basic and expert rooms are all "UK" or "US" which used to be just the name for the expert list.
So do these rooms use the same list but only selected words from it? Or is iSketch phasing out different levels of wordlist? I've not played any other lists since the change so idk what they're like.
Since there's only "UK" or "US" in the /modify list as well now (no UK Easy or UK Basic), how do you select easy, basic or expert when creating a room?
I originally thought that this was a glitch, and was kind of surprised that it was meant to be this way.
yeah i got Hesitate in an easy room, first off how do you draw that?
I guess you could do "He" "sit" "8" but using syllables to draw is kind of dull when the syllables are boring.
second off, how does a newb draw that?
I think they would hesitate.
/me 's sides split.

My guess is to introduce new players into the "world of syllables" earlier than usual.
I think that most words in Easy are still "easy" to draw, but there are the occasional harder words to keep everyone on their toes. There are a few regular players that play in Easy rooms, so maybe it's a way of helping newbies draw your syllables.
It's just a theory, I'm not entirely sure why iSketch changed it. Although I quite like the merge in Basic and Easy wordlists, they are all more or less the same standard of words :)

I was wondering the samee about the different listsssss, there does seem to be a definite differencee between easy and expert rooms, but when you make a room it just seems to be all of the different levels squished into one.. seemed to be too many easy words for it to be only Expert but too many hard ones for it to be Only Easy... :( idk though.
And it's nice to have new words... but some of them definitely seem too hard for easy.. specially new players :( i got Cameo earlierrr. :/

Since sodomy and condom are now on the lists, I can now look forward to two words big pic.
Would help though if words were checked to see if they're suitable, rather than copying/pasting words from the educational resource site that these words are from :p

Yeah, I think they should make the easy list more... easy.
phonograph?
virtue?
And this should probably be a new thread now :p
mhmm I for one am not liking this new list at all....there are far too few tangible objects in it, and way to many words that need to be syllablised...i HATE that..plus many Easy room dwellers have no idea what is going on when someone attempts to draw that way.
It's like playing in Expert now, and I am not happpyyyyyy :(
