View Full Version : Contacting an Admin

So i know that everyone always says that if a user is having an issue the ways to cotacting the admin is the warn function and the secondary is to pm the admin. But what about when the admins you know arnt on and no admin is jumping in for assistance. Do you guys think it would be a good idea if after a user votes if there is no admin in the room it would be a good function for “regular” users to be able to /msg admin and say i need help? What do you think?

It's funny actually, I was debating recently whether to post something similar to this myself.

Unless you know an admin, it's difficult to tell if one is available or not. Then again you might know the names of two, they might both not be online but there could be others you are unaware of. Either way, you never know.

It would be nice if there was some command that you could type to let you know if there are any and/or how many admins are online. It wouldn't be necessary to put their names of course because a) they may wish to remain anonymous and b) there might be quite a few admins online, so generating all their names would take up a bit of space.

I wonder what actually happens at the moment if you did PM the username "Admin"? Especially seeing as "Admin" gets automatically changed to "Moron" (that still makes me laugh )

If there's this feature. There would be abusers.

I'm sure the trolls would especially love to PM the admins and know if they're online and how many of them are online, so they can have a better idea when to violate the rules and when to not.

honesty i think the warning button and boot vote are good enough to alert the admins, and also a good way for all to see if one is abusing the vote.

If the admins are there, they might come to your rescue, sooner or later. If they're not online, well, just ignore the player/s if they were rude, or join other rooms. I understand it can be very irritating sometimes. But you have a choice, you don't have to tolerate their nonsense and no one forces you to.

There is always going to be abusers on the game, my main concern is getting in touch with an admin, if that requires a user to a) be a regular player b) have sent in a vote to boot recently c)have good stats that is fine, there are so many different ways to prevent the function from being abused, even just by having it for players that have never been kicked or voted for...i think it would help greatly...honestly we dont need an admin count we just need the option to private message an admin that is on if you dont know any/ or in the case non are responding to warns because there are times admins are on and they are not known or responding to a warn violation.

...or in the case non are responding to warns because there are times admins are on and they are not known or responding to a warn violation.

I have many a time voted and thought there has been nothing happening by an admin, so have called on in, often to be told the matter had been 'dealt with'. And I know when an admin has accidentally cautioned me, the caution has been in private. It seems to me then, that THAT could be a very real reason we perceive that admins are not taking any action, or notice of our votes. Perhaps the problem HAS been dealt with...we just don't KNOW it has.

That depends on whether they can see what is written there. Either way we wouldn't know unless we do get a PM back.

Awww...I don't know of any moron admins.

Lol, neither do I, but re-reading what I said yesterday, I didn't mean it quite like that  What I mean is if they PM a "Moron" it could well be an "Admin" in disguise

Yes, great points there, especially with the cautions from admins being in private, we wouldn't know if rule violations have been addressed, except for when the person gets the boot or we get a friendly Thank You message from the admin :)

This is a tricky subject, as ICHI, said, a command or button would likely be abused by griefers or have admins incessantly pestered by children asking "are you really an admin?". I'd be for said functionality, but it'd probably need a lot of thought put into it, so abuse and curiosity calls be reduced to a minimum.

My personal opinion on this matter is that such a feature would be redundant. Even though I comprehend why you asked for this possibility I still believe that the given options are sufficient.

If one or more admins are online they see the votes. If they choose to postpone any action, or if they handle it but maybe not visible for the players, they prolly have good reason for it. If a lot of votes are showing up and only few admins are available, they might want to deal them but not to chat about them -hoping that noone takes it personally but understands that time is, uhm,... Rob, how much's the salary these days? (kidding)

A little information from an insider: adminning is sometimes a question of patience and power of endurance. It can be quite important to stay close to a case and watch it long enough as to gather all needed information before an admin will take action. I had to learn not to get distracted by too many votes, but to finish one case after another.

And of course, if I have to choose between some nice message from a player and a decent slurrrrrp from my coffee...

I would choose the coff of course! (again: kidding)

my two cents

This thread is dead? Wasn't long ago posted in, so I don't think it's dead.

I'm not sure if I'm getting the vibes right here (so I apologise beforehand if I am offending anyone) but perhaps the personal attacks might do well to be left out. Seems to me there could be some serious tension here.

Personal attacks??

db1986

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick REM. Arrisdaroldi was pretending to be acting mod on the forum, to which SoulAngel implied that he'd need acting/drama lessons to be, to which Arrisdaroldi was suggesting that SoulAngel had given him acting lessons. At least I reckon anyway. If I'm wrong let me know please  I don't see anything wrong here, except for a bit of misunderstanding and confusion (the confusion is most probably on my part too ).
Also, I'm not sure if there's a set time limit for a thread to be classed as inactive.

Back to the subject before we all get prodded by the big green finger. You can normally tell if an admin joins your room if they ask for a reason for voting soon after a vote has been cast. Although it isn't always necessarily the case, I've asked before and I've seen others do it as well (normally if the voting was really stupid ).
Never forget that a true admin can underline their name and talk in bold font, then it's a give away

There is no `tension` or any `personal attacks` well not from me in spite of Arris ( ) repeatedly commenting on my post . Using references such as silly and irrelevant and calling me a troll and evening warning of reporting me for the heinous crime of double posting.

I find him incredibly amusing and the more threads I read the more I see how keen he is ! not only to be popular but how his quest for adminship is so blatantly clear. I have thanked him on so many threads ,I believe he is admin material . He deserves to become an admin he has all the qualities that are required.

I wish him well on his Quest, long live the ARRIS
