db1986's Christmas Forumite Competition!
Round 1

Now that Saffron's Treasure Hunt competition is coming to a close, and as some of you have speculated, I am organising a Christmas competition.
It won't be half as good the amazing Saff herself, but I hope you enjoy it :)
How about I organise a Christmas drawing competition...Ah, I'm glad to see other people running comps too :twisted: Good call, deebee

Competition Layout

The competition is split into 3 rounds.

Round 1: Christmas Anagrams (55 Points)

Solve the 40 anagrams to form 40 forumite names.
If there is any punctuation, this should be included to help form the forumite names.
All letters shown can be changed to capitals or vice versa as you see fit.
Spaces can be introduced or taken away as you see fit.
The last 3 anagrams form 3 sets of lyrics, each from a different Christmas song.
From the 3 lyric lines, find the title of each Christmas song.

Round 2: My Christmas Scene (35 Points)
Round 3: Christmas Search (60 Points)

Scoring for Round 1

You will score 1 point per forumite anagram that is correct.
You will score 5 points for each correct Christmas song title.
Edit: If you find all of the small words (5 letters or less) from each lyric, but not the title, you will receive 2 points.
Edit: If you find all of the large words (6 letters or more) from each lyric, but not the title, you will receive 2 points.
The maximum score for round 1 is 55.

This equates to:
5:00am on Saturday 6 December Western USA (UTC-8:00)

Ah, I thought I might have needed more clarification here.

Each anagram is a separate word, which makes up one line of a lyric.
The best way to explain this is by use of an example.

For example:
dogo dingtis ew nibrg ot yuo adn royu nik = good tidings we bring to you and your kin

Therefore the song title is "We Wish You A Merry Christmas"

If you partially get the lyric you may be able to search for the title, although if you don't get the title, no points will be awarded.

But what if, say, we get some of the words that make the lyric up, but not all?

And, what if, for some unknown reason, we get the lyrics, but don't find the song title (unlikely to happen, but what if it does)?

Finding your own name (if yours is up there, sorry to those who aren't :sad:) is the easy part, finding all the others is a little more tricky.

Just another quick mention. If you have misspelled some of the forumite names (and some of you have) don't worry. As long as I understand who you are guessing, you will score points.

To all those who have already submitted, there are a few spelling mistakes but all are recognisable, so there is no need to re-submit.

I've had quite a number of entries for Round 1 already and it seems like you're all getting along just fine. The submission date is not for another few days yet, so this gives time for new participants and any others to edit your entries if needed.

I will allow multiple entries and I will take the most recent one into consideration when awarding points.

Nah, that's OK. I have a copy in my Sent Folder. I was just trying to describe how I suddenly would realize what the anagram's answer was, but then when I look it at it after a while, it would look just as confuzzling as it did at first. Maybe that's the mark of a good anagram :biggrin:

I have created an Excel table but I'll still keep all the submissions in case anyone has a different score to what I have calculated. I will be checking these answers with your guesses after round 2.

Copy/paste the whole submission into a seperate sheet in the same file in Excel...

Oh well, it's up to you how you want to do it anyway =)

The other rounds were finished about 2 weeks ago. (yes, I'm trying to be organised) They are also in full BB format so all I have to do is copy/paste :)

I reckon you can probably give the winner and any other entrants whatever award you wanted to - the awards thread is just there as an unofficial record of who has won comps and such until Peter comes along and hopefully implements the idea that was suggested, or something simliar anyway.

Although I think if you want to award something to do with the forum, like a custom rank, extra rep points (if that can be done) or such, it's probably best to clear it with Ches and/or the mods first.

You're absolutely right Sunny :)
If you make spelling mistakes or give a capital letter instead of a small one, as long as I can still read the person you are trying to guess you will still be awarded points :)

e.g. If you typoed like this --> "db1896", then it would be clear to me that you would be guessing db1986.

Every entry I have received, there have only been minor typing errors. I have understood all of them and made allowances for these, so everyone who has already entered does not need to resubmit :smile: Unless you would like to change your answers of course :P
