db1986's Christmas Forumite Competition!
Round 2
I think it's now time for Round 2. :)
Competition Layout
Round 1: Christmas Anagrams (55 Points)
Round 2: My Christmas Scene (35 Points)
This round is a test of drawing skill. All you need to do is create a big picture of a Christmas scene including the objects from the song "The 12 days of Christmas" as follows:
---The 12 days of Christmas----
-------------------------------
12 drummers drumming
11 pipers piping
10 lords a-leaping
9 ladies dancing
8 maids a-milking
7 swans a-swimming
6 geese a-laying
5 golden rings
4 calling birds
3 French hens
2 turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.
-------------------------------
You may...
Draw any Christmas scene that you like.
Draw your image by hand or design it using various computer programs such as Photoshop or Paint.
Draw only one object of each line of the song. For example: For 8 maids a-milking you only need to draw one maid for the word to be included in the scoring.
Draw each object without it's appropriate action mentioned in the song.
Draw one object to combine two or more words together, such that a female maid would include the words "ladies" and "maids"
Write words to help explain your drawings, such as speech bubbles or road names.
Submit a maximum of two images, but you will only receive the points from your highest scoring image in the entirety of Round 2.
You may not...
Write the word for an object.
Include images that you have not drawn yourself.
Edit: Draw only one bird or other member of the avian community to represent all six bird words (Swans, geese, calling birds, French hens, turtle doves and partridges)
In general...
After all images have been submitted, a poll will be created showing all the submitted images, where you will be able to vote for your favourite images.
A few examples of a Christmas scene would include a Christmas meal or opening presents or playing in the snow, but you can choose any that you like.
Images can be of any type that the forum allows, and are still subject to the normal posting rules.
Round 3: Christmas Search (60 Points)
Scoring for Round 2
You will score:
10 points for entering your Christmas Scene into the competition.
1 point per object if you include between 1 and 10 objects in your Christmas image.
12 points for including 11 objects.
15 points for including all 12 objects.
The maximum score for round 2 (including the poll) is 35.
Poll scoring will be clarified in it's own thread once this round has finished.
Entering
PM your drawing along with the words you have used to me for this round by 1:00pm on Thursday 18 December UK and Ireland (UTC)
This equates to:
5:00am on Thursday 18 December Western USA (UTC-8:00)
7:00am on Thursday 18 December Central USA (UTC-6:00)
8:00am on Thursday 18 December Eastern USA (UTC-5:00)
6:00pm on Thursday 18 December India (UTC+5:00)
10:00pm on Thursday 18 December Western Australia (UTC+9:00)
12:00am on Friday 19 December Eastern Australia (UTC+11:00)
Good luck!

Question - I understand how you're awarding points for this, but are there points for whoever wins the poll vote? Or is that to do with something else?

Does the picture have got to be something related to Christmas?
this is harder than saff's one, btw :P oh yea, do they have to make sense? (i spose?) cos i could draw everything in there with no connection or whatsoever.

Yes, there will be points awarded to the rankings of players in the poll. It will be fully explained in the poll thread once this round has finished :)
Thanks tasha, I have updated the original post
Does the picture have got to be something related to Christmas?
Aha, yes that might help, otherwise people won't get the Christmassy feel :) Updated, thanks Platinium
Hmm, this sounds like fun. Could you do a female maid to incorporate both "ladies" and "maids", or similar things, or does each element have to be distinctly seperate? Also, what sort of programs are we to do those in? Is it an MS Paint or similar affair... I think that it'd be nice to do it in the iSk Studio, seeing as this is an iSk forum. :) hehe
ILoveMaths07

I know it's harder than Saff's, duckehh, but the scoring is much fairer. All of us can get 25 points at least. And if I get 1 point in the polls (like I did in Saff's ), I'll get a 26. If someone gets a 35, I'll be only 9 points behind him/her, and it's easy to catch up in the last stage, which isn't gonna be easy... and will probably have negative marking.

I think we can all get 35 pts :)
I don't know about the extra poll points...

Good question Fox. You may draw one "object" to combine two words together, so your example of a female maid would score points for both "ladies" and "maids". As long as you remember to post the list of included words I should be able to find your words.
Also you may draw your picture using any program that you choose. As long as the format is recognised by the forum it should be OK.
I don't know about the extra poll points...
The exact breakdown will be advertised in the poll thread :)

It's getting more challenging now. I hope I have the time to draw the pic! I like the scoring system which rewards effort and participation  I don't know how Saffy's comp was scored but I'm sure it was all fair and above board xD

Seems to me that Saffrons was actually more evenly scored, since that one had bonus points for 6-7, 8-9, 10-11 and 12, not just for 11 and 12 as in this one.
I'm sure, as in Saffrons one, it won't matter though since most people will probably use all 12 words.

I am only assuming here as DB seems to have everything under control. I suspect that we will all get maximum points for ensuring that everything is included - and then it will go to poll to determine who get's the most points in a sliding scale. An assumption only.
DB... I am really enjoying this comp!

I don't know how Saffy's comp was scored but I'm sure it was all fair and above board xD
The scoring for this part is very similar to Saff's Treasure Hunt, but I'm not going to give the point allocations for the poll as yet :)
I'm sure, as in Saffrons one, it won't matter though since most people will probably use all 12 words.
My scoring is very slightly harsher but I also assume that most people will try to draw all 12 words as was the case in the Treasure Hunt.
So it must all be drawn by hand, and we can't use pics off the web?
Yes, all pictures should be hand drawn as it's a test of drawing skills :)
DB... I am really enjoying this comp!
That's good because it took me ages to finalise my original ideas :)

I remember reading something about you saying you had the "creativity of a table....". Darn creative table so far.
I just have to apologise to everyone who entered the Treasure Hunt now, as I am trying to think of how to incorporate these 12 words, and it's not that easy on this side of the comp
Sunny1, I've been using newbie style for over 2 years now, and it still works for me

Yes, all pictures should be hand drawn as it's a test of drawing skills :)
So will the poll be based on drawing skills rather than creativity? Ie should we put loads of time in trying to neaten it up etc?
ILoveMaths07
07-12-2008, 03:38 PM
I'll try my best, but I know I won't win. I'm terrible at drawing. So probably, I won't bother neatening it up... My aim will only be to get those 25 points, and we'll see how well I do in the polls...
db1986

So will the poll be based on drawing skills rather than creativity? Ie should we put loads of time in trying to neaten it up etc?
It is based on drawing skills and creativity alike, it just depends on which drawing that other people like. If your drawing skills aren't particularly strong (just like mine ) then coming up with a clever idea for the big picture may be just as beneficial as being a good artist :)
Also noob style is allowed but people might not understand your drawing

I think they're allowed, but if someone writes the word and doesn't draw it then they won't get points from db for that (for the 25 point scene):
Writing the word for an object does not include it into the scoring.
For the 10 point poll, it's totally up to the forumites, so it depends on how letters/words contribute to understanding your pic.
At least, that's my understanding =)

You are absolutely correct storm :)
Just to elaborate, you may write letters to help explain your drawn words, such as a person talking or a road name or a banner, but you won't score points if you write the word itself.
I haven't even had time to look at this stage yet :(
Sounds like fun though! Hope I manage to get something submitted on time.

That's why I have given over a week to complete your drawings. We know that it is diffcult to incorporate 12 words into a picture. (No offence Saff *hugsies*)
A lot of people have told me that they are finding it difficult. If everyone is, you will stand a better chance.
In addition, stormy asked quite an important question. It was asked as a PM (so I can't link it) and I hope stormy doesn't mind me passing it on.
For Round 2 of the competition -- can we draw by hand?
The answer to this question is yes. You may draw your image by hand and it can be as creative a style as you wish.

I can't really change it now Maths, but as I've said before, if you can think of a clever idea to combine the 12 words together, it could earn you as many votes as being a good artist. It just depends on how people vote in the poll.
*cough*Can we submit more than 1 scene?*cough*
Yes, you may submit more than one entry for this, but you will only receive points for your highest scoring drawing in total for Round 2.
Does that include letters?
You can draw letters to help explain your drawing, but you cannot write the word itself.
All of these will be updated to the original post :)
Edit: Due to popular demand I will be extending the closing date until 18 December. Please check the original post for details.
I can't really extend much further otherwise we won't finish by Christmas :)

Draw one object to combine two or more words together, such that a female maid would include the words "ladies" and "maids"
...
You will score:
1 point per object if you include between 1 and 10 objects in your Christmas image.
12 points for including 11 objects.
15 points for including all 12 objects.
...
Hiii, I have another question...
I know we can combine words... such as the example of the maid & lady, but just to make sure: if we draw a bird (just a general bird...nothing special) can it represent: swan, goose, calling bird, French hen, turtle dove, and partridge?
Also, do you want us to write a description of the BP Christmas Scene like in Saff's one? Or just state the words and where they are?

Hmm.. yes... very good question.
* db1986 sits and thinks for a while
When drawing the various members of the avian community you should try to draw them all individually. A suggestion would be to draw six birds that look similar in shape, but each one of them having it's own separate feature. (such as a beret for the French hen)
Also, do you want us to write a description of the BP Christmas Scene like in Saff's one? Or just state the words and where they are?
If you can include a description, that would be helpful and it may help me decipher which objects are in your image. However, I'm not making it compulsory as some of you guys haven't had much time to draw your pictures let alone write descriptions for them too.
At the end of the day, it's completely up to you :)

Nice.
Why not try what Saff did with the Treasure Hunt polls and give each image it's own post and have the title in the poll section?
I actually liked that because I could see all the poll results in one place and see the progess pics were making easily, then scroll down and look at the images seperately. I think this method works better with images because drawings can be quite big and if they're all in a poll it can look a bit confusing which 'box' belongs to which image. Yes, I know the pictures don't have names but just calling it Image 1, Image 2 etc. should work fine, I think.
The links idea would also work, but it's a bit more labour intensive because we have to click on each link to view the picture (what, lazy?! nooo)
Also, you won't have to wait for a greenie/orangie.
db1986

Yes you can post more than 10 options if they're text This is what Saff did (http://www.isketchforum.net/treasure-hunt-poll-t2747.html). (Also see her first post under the poll options - you can ask a mod to change the links into images later on if you want... but you said you aren't going to do that so :)).
I'm sure you've probably taken all precautions already but you are hosting the pics on your own photobucket/similar account first right (to avoid recognition through account/file names)?
