db1986's Christmas Forumite Competition!
Round 3

Christmas is only a few days away, so I think it's now time for the final round :)

Competition Layout

Round 1: Christmas Anagrams (55 Points)
Round 2: My Christmas Scene (35 Points)
Bonus Round: My Ideal Gift (18 Points)
Round 3: Christmas Message (60 Points)

Answer the following questions about some of our fellow forumites.
All 50 answers are forumite names.
All of these questions about forumites can be found using items around the forum and you may need some of the words stated in the questions to help you find the answer.
Once you have found a forumite name, write down the character of the forumite denoted by the red number.
For example: Name the forumite that created this competition. 2, would mean db1986, so use the 2nd character which is b.
Once you have found all of the characters, you should then form a sentence which will make a Christmas greeting.
The Christmas greeting layout and one letter has been given at the bottom of this post.

Scoring for Round 3

You will score 1 point per forumite that is correct.
You will score 10 points for the correct greeting.
The maximum score for round 3 is 60.

That was an unbelievable round...

I can't really find #36 though... so the chance that my guess is right is..
1 out of (3670-49) that's less than 0.03%
But I need to have got the other 49 right

(Actually it comes to around 33.33% i think, but yeah)

EDIT ... if there're underscores or periods in a forumities name, do we count it as a "letter" ???

Yes. If you encounter a symbol or punctuation, you do count it towards the number of letters, as it is still classed as a "character".
For example: The 7th character of sense/net would be n --> sense/net.

I have one entry already

ahhh. these questions bring back memories :) btw, does that mean we have to unscramble all of these letters? :( i'd rather unscramble some forum names plz.

btw, does that mean we have to unscramble all of these letters? :(

Nope, but the word search might help

It also allows people to look at old threads, maybe as an inspiration for new threads and a bit of chatter :)

HOLY GUACAMOLE - I've just seen this round.
Deebs, what a fantastic idea......but ouch, it will take a while.
I really like the way you have incorporated the forum members and looking through the forum into this comp. Super, super job!

Oh lol - "Saffron's fantasy poll" sounds a bit wrong....:embarrassed:

Deebs, what a fantastic idea......but ouch, it will take a while.

Haha, thanks. Ironically this was the first idea I came up with, and so I thought I would leave it until last. Due to the over-running of Round 2, you guys have fewer days to complete this. I originally planned to start this a couple of days ago. However, it shouldn't take too long to complete, as long as you follow the clues in each question.

Having said that, I've had one entry already
Some people are super fast :o

Saffron

... you guys have fewer days to complete this.

Even fewer when you spend your morning here (http://www.savoybaths.com.au/pano.html)
Hehe.
Recommended sequence - Warm pool, dry heat room, steam room, cool shower, hot spa, warm spa, cool spa, warm pool.
Massage.
:D

Edit: Oh Poo - I just tried a search for the first question using "Lisa479" and "birthday" as the keywords, and the only match was this thread :embarrassed:

Saffron

hehe. I haven't got 17 yet, so I thought number 48 ("Name the forumite who has a birthday on 6 March and whose initial matches the first letter of the answer to Question 17") would help me narrow it down. Turns out the 4th letter of both people who have a birthday that day is the same letter! Hmm.

I have a few questions though:

Number 24? On the front page, the stats show that there are 85,411 posts.....and you want us to say who posted 87,962 and 111,111... Edit: nvm, I figured that one out :P

Number 39? Should the red number be 5, not 3? Letter 5 of that name seems to be a better fit for the message - unless you are trying to tell us your favourite dance style.

The number is 5 and not 3, thank you Saff.
I finished this round about a month ago so I was a bit unsure whether the posts you are looking for would have been edited. It seems to be OK though :)

OK, I'll give you a hint on this one, even though you already have the answer.
There was a helpful post by this forumite that explained how to upload and display a background image.

There is only one answer for this one, and it should be the most recent one. Thank you Bell, there is an ambiguity there.

do we have to unscramble some letters somewhere in the middle of tht puzzle? it doesnt seem to make sense..

All you have to do is search for the answer to each question.
Every answer will be a forum member's name.
Once you have found that name, use the number to find the correct character to put into the sentence.

For example:
Name the forumite who created this competition. 2

The person who created the competition is db1986. (You would earn one point for this correct answer.)
Then you choose the 2nd character, given by the red number 2, which is b, and that's the letter to go forward into the sentence.
The 1st character is d, the 2nd is b, 3rd is 1 etc.

I don't know how to find out a post's post number... I thought in each thread the post number started from 1... =/

There is an easier way to find a post number than flicking through all the open threads. All I will say for now is that you might need some clever URL understanding.

What happens if we get the message right, but by filling in some blanks without giving you the person's name for some answers?

Yeah I have no idea some of the names but I know what the message is.

You will get 10 points if your message is correct, even if you have found all the forumite names or not. You get 1 point for each forumite name that is correct. There is no negative marking so you may as well guess if you are unsure.

ahhhhhh XD stupid number 36 is giving me a headache XD i think imma give up :P

I'm not gonna give any more hints, but as I said, you might as well guess as there's no negative marking.

I'm having serious trouble with 10: Who uses F5 to cheat at iSketch?

This is probably one of the most difficult ones to find, along with the post and thread number ones. After my little clue about those, it definitely makes 10 the hardest now.

Only about an hour left before I reveal the answers and the winner!

db1986

Some of them are difficult to search for as some keywords are too short or too common.
For the questions that some people couldn't get, I will be posting the post locations for those so you can check the answers.

charlotte
25-12-2008, 12:16 PM
14 n 24 were the hardest for me!!!!! D: i was stumped n almost give up coz i was figuring it by the HARD WAY... which u all knw is, to actually browse all the threads n look for tht specific date which post 111111 would be. n i was dumb to do tht... then i kinda made sense out of everything n finally, finally, figured the damn answers.

about the rest...like no. 10 or the one tht storm said.. the typoed rule, i dont think theyre THAT hard. i admit i did almost give up on those, but i still got them in the end. so its not impossibly hard.

*runs off to PM answers to db..

Just as an aside to search for a post type:

db.. for ques 29, you stated who was in position 3 of the Who's Who competition... but you couldve meant it in 2 ways :( 3rd in position was Chris_uk n i think you shouldve stated your instructions a little clearer by saying " in the picture "???

Platinium, if you manage to get the Christmas message (especially for the word 'christmas' it becomes obvious after a few letters) it becomes pretty clear that it can't be Chris.. because his letters don't fit. I had Chris.. at first too, though.

Ah, yes, I overlooked this and I didn't see the ambiguity. As storm said, it doesn't fit in with the overall message but I could have worded it more clearly. Thank you for pointing this out to me, I will amend your score to include Chris_uk as a correct answer.
