db1986's Halloween Tournament!

Hey everyone :)

I've been thinking that it has been while since we had a competition on the forum, so I have decided to organise a Halloween themed tournament. As Halloween weekend will probably be a busy weekend (it is for me anyway) what with social activities like parties and maybe a spot of trick-or-treating going on, I'm thinking to have this tournament at sometime during the week after Halloween (first week of November ish).

Anyway, I have thought of a few details (and borrowed some ideas from a Portuguese friend) about the tournament, but if you guys have any other suggestions, feel free to post them. Depending on how many people are interested and when they are free, we'll have either a one-day tournament or a "2 heats and a final" setup. If we play a one-day tournament here's how it will go.

Room Details

The room will be user-created and made invite-only.
The number of games will be one less than the number of participating players.
The number of rounds in each game will be organised so that each participating player draws twice during each game.
Each game will simply be a normal game of iSketch using the Easy wordlists.
Each game the wordlist will alternate between UK Easy and US Easy.
Guests are allowed to join the room to watch but should remain on "/away" during the active parts of the tournament.

Gameplay Details

Each player should try to score as highly as possible. The person with the lowest score at the end of each game will be eliminated.
If there is a joint last place with at least 5 players still in the competition, both players will be eliminated.
If there is a joint last place with fewer than 5 players still in the competition, neither player will be eliminated and the gameplay continues as normal.
Eliminated players will become guests and are free to continue watching the tournament on "/away".
During your turn at drawing you may "Hint" and press "Done", but you may not SKIP.
As the theme is Halloween, try to include a Halloween theme to your drawing. Although this isn't necessary, it will add to the fun!

When only two players remain in the tournament, the gameplay will be slightly altered and played as follows:

Final Two Players

The final wordlist will be Halloween.
All the eliminated players draw once in the final game and only the two remaining players may guess.
The player with the highest score once every eliminated player has drawn wins the tournament.
Guests are allowed to join in and draw like the eliminated players if they openly request to.
It will be arranged that an odd number of players will draw in this part of the competition so that a definitive winner can be decided.

If we have a "2 heats and a final" arrangement, we'll probably go for the top 3 or top 4 from each heat go through to the final, again depending on how many people sign up.

If you would like to join this tournament, sign up here with your available dates. If you have any queries or suggestions, feel free to post them here as well :)

TempusFugit
db1986

Maybes

Arrisdaroldi
Bellicimo

As everyone so far is either from the UK or US I propose this time for a one-day tournament:

Thursday 3rd November
11pm UK Time (UTC)
7pm Eastern USA Time (UTC-4)
4pm Western USA Time (UTC-7)
Other times here (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20111103T23&p1=136).

If you would like to be added or removed, or if you'd like the times to be altered slightly, let me know.

Also, as it's for Halloween, I thought it would be nice to have Halloween names as well, so get creative :)

No Halloween wordlist included though? :o

I was going to include it, but I think it's easier to guess Easy words for a tourney. Actually I may use the Halloween list for the final, I think that would be a nice addition, thanks NH :)

Hey people :)

I have arranged the list of players (http://www.isketchforum.net/showpost.php?p=202278) into "definites" and "maybes" for the Thursday. If anyone else would like to join, you can do so by letting me know by any means, right up to the event time (give me a few minutes to sort myself out though, eh? :P:)

Just to give you an idea of how long the tournament should last, here are a few approximate times.

5 players = 45 mins
6 players = 1 hour 10 mins
7 players = 1 hour 30 mins
8 players = 2 hours
9 players = 1 hour 30 mins
10 players = 1 hour 45 mins
11 players = 2 hours

I don't really plan for the tournament to last longer than a couple of hours so for 9 players and above, each player will only draw once per game, hence why the approximate time seems lower for 9+ players. If there are more than 11 players, we will need considerably more time.

Also a polite request to the "maybes". If you guys can definitely come, make me aware ASAP so that I can put you on the "definites" list. If you're on the "definite" list, I will most likely allow you more time if you are late than if you are a "maybe" at the start time. If you can't make it right on time, I am nice (usually ) and I will wait a few minutes for you, but please try to be on time if you can.

Hopefully see you on the 3rd :)

I've updated the names list (http://www.isketchforum.net/showpost.php?p=202278). Don't forget that if you want to request a slight change of time, say by half hour or so, let me know and we'll try to come to a reasonable arrangement :)

So I guess I'm another one of those annoying maybe people..

Nope, not annoying at all, you don't have to commit to it, but if you are there I'd love for you to join in :)

I am all dressed up and ready to go!!!

Lol, certainly looks like it  Have you thought of a spooky name or just going to use your own?

Hello everyone, just a reminder that tonight's tournament will be taking place in approximately 3 hours from the time of this post.

The key things about tonight are:

Please try to arrive early or on time.
Easy wordlists will be used for all rounds except the final which will be Halloween.
When drawing you may use "Hint" and you may press "Done" in all rounds except the final. No skipping please.
The person with the lowest number of points at the end of each game will be eliminated.
Guests may join to watch, but must stay on /away unless participating in the final.
You may make your drawings Halloween related but this isn't obligatory.
Oh, and with regards to letters, normal iSketch rules apply.

Good luck to all those who are playing tonight, see you all soon :)

Well done everyone, and especially well done to Bellicimo for being quite consistently at the top; and for still being as terrifying to play against as he's always been.

and for having the most points accumulated
