View Full Version : Do you get a thrill out of thunder and lightening?

Ok, so storms are on my mind at the moment and I've noticed that there's a good mix as to people who get a thrill or people who get to hide under the covers *insert my whimpy name here*

I hate them, they scare me lots

I think it's because they're so unpredictable. You never know when the lightening's going to blind you or the thunder's gonna burst your ear drums!

I give them a thumbs down...

Anyone else?

That is so cute, Facey :) I know another isketcher who isn't fond of them, and I find it adorable. Not sure why. Sorry guys.

I love thunderstorms. During the day it's nice to open the window and hear the sound of thunder (I've got the study room window open at the moment, heh. Great, nice fresh smell..). As much as the sound of it, the whole weather system does interest me (which is another reason why I like it). Geographer.. XD

/me huggles the people who don't like storms
That said, it does scare me at night because I'm in the loft, and it gives it a weird haunty feeling... and it's impossible to sleep.

I voted that I liked them, but now I want to change my mind. I have just been on the phone speaking to my mum - and an almighty flash of lightening quickly proceeded by the loudest bang I have ever heard has just rendered my phone useless. In all honesty... I'm crapping it now :S Of course, my children won't settle either - so whilst I may be looking all serene and saying to them "there, there, doesn't matter dearies... its only God moving furniture and banging his head on the light" - inside I am bricking it... literally

/me hides under the covers

Adore storms! I'm sure you could tell! They leave me in awe...

I love:
+ the different shades of gray and blue in the sky
+ the beautiful, dense clouds
+ the steady, rhythmic patter of the rain
+ the warm and the cool breezes
+ the delicious smell of soil and water mixing together
+ the lightning lighting up a dark sky for half a second
+ the rumble of thunder
+ the wetness
+ the wild power

That is a beautiful picture!
Gotta love those dark clouds. Not like the clouds on a normal rainy day - which is just boring and normal for the UK. lol.

lately, we've been getting extreme weather... that changes really quickly. one morning, it was 25C, and around 32 at lunchtime. at 4pm, we had a tornado. lmao.

we've been getting so many thunderstorms.. i love them! there have been a lot of them where the thunder was so crazy i saw the walls shake, or i felt the floor shaking. yesterday evening had an awesome thunderstorm... there was this bolt of lightning that zapped right in front of our faces as we were looking out the window. it startled me, and my sister even screamed. she never screams. xD

If you like storms, this animated screensaver isn't bad. We don't have speakers on the PC here at work so I don't know if the sound effects are any good, but it looks nice. Shame about having to register though.

Not one I'd like to be in, but it is so beautiful! This was taken by a stormchaser, I wish he tagged his pics before putting them on the web. I'd love to credit him directly and not just the company.

Now THAT looks amazing! It's a gorgeous picture. :D I'd credit him too. That's not an easy picture to take, I bet, and the photography is so great!
/flirt storms (when they don't cause damage!)
Looking at the poll, I'd say the majority of us are storm crazy, heh.

Had a storm last night. I was stood at the back door watching it while the Wife cowered in the living room.
They're great! (storms not wives)

I love nothing better than lying under the covers in the dark watching the room light up and listening to the wind ,rain ect..Especially If your not alone :)

The bad side is we dont have a lot of storms though, but when we do there usually quite severe and cause a lot of damage ..for example whole houses disappearing and blackouts that last anything up to a week .The neighbours shed landing in your backyard is not uncommon

I like storms when I'm inside and I can watch out of the window in comfort.

One of the best things for me is when there's a storm on holiday. We go and stay in a static caravan every year, which we have done since I was about 4 and when there's a storm there it's fantastic. It's so loud and the rain pounds on the caravan roof. And because the window right overlooks the sea you can watch the storm over the ocean. It can be quite scary in the middle of the night if it wakes you up but it's amazing at the same time.

I like storms but i only just realised about six months ago that i get a terrible headache just before one! I have been getting them for years but never put the 2 and 2 together. apparently something to do with the air pressure?...

I'm the same, rabbitrun. If it really needs to thunder, I get an awful migraine starting about 2 hours until the thunder starts. Apart from that, I love storms.

As a kid they used to scare the crap out of me, but I like to sit and watch em now.
Although I'm not too keen in being out in one.

Last year when I went to a funeral in Folkestone, on the drive home I drove through this massive storm. The clouds were way down on the motorway, early morning seemed like the middle of the night. The rain was so heavy that you couldn't drive any faster than 10mph. I consider all the drivers on that motorway very lucky including myself, as the lightning was hitting the fields to our right, probably a mile away from where we were. I didn't see any cars get hit, but who knows! I know for sure we didn't get hit!! Was a very unforgettable experience, and I think if I was in the car on my own, I'd of bricked it.

I adore thunderstorms, and like many have said already, I like to watch from the comfort of my own home! The whole idea of being outside in one doesn't appeal to me that much!

You're safe in a car, portable Faraday cage. I like storms when I'm in a car, but not when I'm walking around! Love them from indoors though.

My hubby cherry loves storms.
He will gladly sit and watch one for as long as it lasts, he loves the loudness the bright flashes everything about them.
I think there fantastic also all that power:razz:

LOL @ "portable Faraday cage" - are you a physicist, Vik?

Vik
26-06-2007, 07:16 AM
Thanks Flopsy for my first laugh of the day :P

My mathematical prowess is... limited. I once wanted to write a new wordlist for iSketch, and someone told me it had to be 1,000 words long, so I reasoned that if I wrote just 10 words a day, in 10 days I'd have my list! Genuis. It was on the second day of merrily scribbling down words when I realised my 'slight' misjudgement. So physicist - unfortunately not. I always liked the theory but practical application was impossible!

I agree with Cherry about getting a thrill out of the sheer power of storms. The louder the thunder and the more spectacular the lightening the better!
