Here it is.
The moment we have been waiting for...........*drumrollllll*

Voting is open to every forum member, inlcuding those who entered.
You may vote for your own if you think it deserves a vote.
The poll is multi-choice - you can vote for every poem you think deserves a vote.

Scoring:
1st = 10 points, 2nd = 9 points, 3rd = 8 points, 4th = 7 points and so on. Every place from 10 on will receive 1 point.

Ties will work as they do in Athletics – eg if two people come first they will each get 10 points, there will be no second place, the next highest score will be third and get 8 points.

If you submitted more than one poem only your highest winning entry will receive the points, the other poem will be taken out.

There will be an Honourable Mention in the Awards thread to the winning poet/s

Poll is open until 10 March, 2009

Also: I will put each poem in a seperate post - this is because some of them are absolutely brilliant, and I think some forum members may like to give the poet some rep. Which of course I am half way through putting them up and realised that it will be me who gets the rep because I posted it. So ignore that bit.

Poll is now open for voting.
:D

Couplets Describing iSketchforum.net

The forum is a great distraction,
Providing iSketcher interaction,

We manage to keep ourselves entertained,
With the ever-popular forum games,

Tempusfugit keeps the time,
2.0, Ches, Peter and Jobe keep us in line,

The gallery is under-used,
The most popular thread concerns “Admin Abuse,”

“I drew a penis, but my word was ‘hand!’”
“The admin was unjust, and now I’ve been banned!”

We patiently deal with ‘newbs’ all day,
Whatever your problem, Feedback’s the way!

A Newbie's Perspective

What's this? A new game! Like Pictionary, I heard.
One person draws and the others guess the word.
OK, Let's see, I'll give it a go.
Username? No clue. I'll be Newie-420
Animals.. science... cyber, erm, what?
UK easy looks... easy - I'll give it a shot!
What's all this? It's weird. I don't get the screen.
Names, numbers, colours - but what does it mean?
I'll watch for a while and see how to play,
and it if don't get it, I don't have to stay.
OK. Looks simple. I'll join in this round.
Eh? What the heck was that squeaky toy sound?
Oh, someone's drawing. A head, eyes and nose
Big, pointy ears - could be Prince Charles, I s'pose...
Green hat - Oh! I've got it! It must be an elf!
E-L-F and hit 'enter'. I'm well pleased with myself!
I'm a natural, a genius, cool as an ice-cube!
Oh, someone PM'ed me - you what? "Tab up, n00b"??

The Secret Diary of a Sketcher Gone Bad

Day one - this is fun! Now my mischief has begun.
I guessed all wrong, and drew a dong, and drew Beyoncé in a thong!

Day two, and something new! I changed my name to 'screw_you!'.
It was my theme to start a team with letters, rude to the extreme!

Day three - what glee! I stole a player's ID.
Their friends did vex and were perplexed when I went into 'Cyber_Sex'.

Day four. What a bore. I can't log in anymore.
What poor decorum! But this'll floor 'em - I'll moan about it on the forum!

There is a man with a moustache and he is looking at me like he wants to hurt me

DING.

A shape like a rock, like a stone, like a boulder? Hark no, there’s a shoulder, a shoulder, yes shoulder.
So this is a person, a human, a man. Beneath his nose, a moustache, so yes, it’s a man.
His eyebrows point downwards; he’s angry. No… mad? Are you frowning at me, sir? Am I really so bad?

Honest, sir, I didn’t even look at your wife.

But now there’s an item drawn over his face; this must be it, in this predominant place.
Shaped like a “T”, a razor, to shave… but why then, sir, is your expression so grave?

Has the missus bought the wrong shaving cream again, sir?

Would you have preferred Gillette, sir?

The red stuff is there now, blood, to bleed. Sir, did you shave at too great a speed?
It drips off his face, on to his shirt. Could it, perhaps, be that he is hurt?
No, not that, nor is it cut wound or gash. All of this guessing for one man’s moustache?!
Have I missed something simple? Have I been a bit thick? I’ll have one final stab at it; is the word “nick”?

DING.

Ok, final round now, already a hand; complete with five fingers, because it is a hand.
On the fourth finger there now grows a ring; round and golden, because it is a ring.
And on the ring is a rock to admire. Could this stone be a shiny sapphire?
No? Then a diamond, or a ruby, perhaps? Yes, it was ruby, game finished, slash-claps.

The Newbies of iSketch

The newbies of iSketch
Find it funny to draw
Boobs and genitals,
In quantities galore;
You vote to skip them
And they oft take offence,
Saying, “get lost, you idiot,”
In words not so cleansed

In Tandem, they scribble
All over your draw
While in 5 Strokes, they complain,
“Why can’t I do more?”
They say you’re a cheater
When you guess the words fast,
Yet when they write letters
It’s all just a blast

Oh, the newbies of iSketch,
They drive us so mad
With their badly drawn phalli
And vote abuse; so sad.
If only, if only,
They could leave us in peace;
Just one single game
Of no testicles, please!

The Spice of Life

'Though most likely agreed by a quorum, and yet
Saffron's not really the spice of iSketch forum, dot net
She'll devise and entice,
Help you twice, even thrice
But suffice the precise, she really just makes yellow rice!

ISketch

The canvas is blank
The room’s empty
No players to rank
No bans to levy

But then, “ding dong”
And the game begins
And it wasn’t before long
I had clocked up a few wins

The game is fast paced
The competition switched on
I had to make hast
If I was to beat Saffron

Fingers poised at the ready
Guesses scrolling up the screen
Typing fast and heavy
Every player keen

The draws showed brilliance
The guesses were exact
I had little chance
For it was skill I lacked

But I did not care
If I won or lost
The game was fair
Players knew the cost

When rules were broken
It did not take long
Before the player was taken
And booted for their wrong

Friends here we’ve all made
And the bonds remain strong of some
Many years we’ve played
And many more to come

A Poetic Summary of the iSketch rooms

I thought and thought about iSketch,
and what I could poetically say,
about the game that has consumed my life,
in so many different ways.

The rooms are simply brilliant,
there's such a huge variety,
I'm never stuck for a challenge,
morning, night or during tea
(bear with me, I'm warming up).

The easy rooms are for lazy days,
when I can't be bothered to think,
the draws are typical and the words repeat,
missing one makes my heart sink.

The 'medium' rooms I find a bit of a challenge,
as the word list is slightly tougher,
the draws aren't as normal, the words
are a bit longer, and the players – definitely stronger

Expert has always done my head in,
with all the complicated syllablifying (is that even a word?),
but that's the way Expert is, I suspect
no one knows what the words mean but they'll still produce a drawing!

The 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s,
are all timeless classics,
nostalgia draws some sketchers back in,
but personally, the oldies don't make me tick =p

We now stumble into 5 strokes,
where a blank canvas trembles with potential,
like magic a whole picture appears,
and suddenly the entire room goes mental.

I'd try to write this stanza palindromically, madam,
but I'm really not that clever (despite what I may have led you to believe),
the whole flipping word list has nothing but palindromes,
just thinking back to front already makes my mind falter

If drawing alone gives you screen fright,
fear not fellow sketchers, for tandem is here,
I believe the fun of tandem is to attempt a big picture,
but more often than not the division is sadly clear.

Making the connection rather smoothy,
I draw you into Connections,
the current word is connected to the previous word – d'oh,
and that's all there is to it xD.

If you're an adrenaline junkie,
I thoroughly recommend Blitz,
It's not for the faint of heart however,
for it's the whole 10 points, or the losers' abyss.

Anagrams will have you looking at words,
in a light you've never seen them in before,
You shuffle and swap, and voila –
a simple word will suddenly mean much more!

Despair not, the geeks amongst us,
for brain power makes an appearance too,
Science is here... and guess what –
“It works, b.itches!”

For the wild at heart, animals reign supreme,
They claw and snarl their way through the rounds,
to the top of the chain just to be crowned,
King – or Queen – of the virtual jungle.

Sketchers from all over the world unite,
and test your knowledge of mappish affairs,
Geography will take you on a spin around the world,
and I assure you, you will discover exciting new frontieres.

Serious stuff all this game playing is,
and I've not even mentioned the language rooms,
but for now let it rest – from the epically simple to the mind-blowingly complex:
Hurrah for iSketch!

And now I believe this is turning into a rather epic exercise in poetry,
so although I'm sure you're all captivated by my skill,
the time has come for me to bid ye adieu,
and hope I have demonstrated sufficiently, my ability to wax lyrical.
Thank you for reading :)

The Drawing of the Noob

Here's a rhyme about a noob,
with guesses such as ass and boobs,
who sits and types and spams away,
and won't have won a game all day.

When they draw they won't play fair,
but still they draw without a care,
Underscores that they did print,
Instead of the button called 'Hint'.

Then they sketch some nasty porn,
The other players get ready to warn,
They'll be voted for this draw,
Cos they should know the iSketch law.

When they're skipped they wonder why,
They tell all artists they will die,
The artists are feeling abused,
Which does not make them feel amused.

The other players vote to kick,
and an admin enters very quick,
They see the noob's the problem's root
So simply they give them the boot

Hidden Identity

Once there was a game
Name that needn’t be said
Popular among many
You never know what’s ahead

Drawings come one by one
Guesses fly around
I’m simply sitting here
Waiting to be found

Surrounded by friends
Yet so alone
Looking for a single one
That will show me a home

Someone to talk to
Someone to see
Who I truly am
More than simplicity

This is not just a website
Not just a game
A hidden identity
Something to hide the pain

Silent night…………on iSketch

It was a dark and silent night that night...
No breeze, no howls, not a thing in sight.
At 4:53 AM in the morning,
The majectic sun was definitely dawning.
But it wasn't the time to fall asleep!
And although it makes me seem like a creep :\
It's surely not something that I'll forget--
Those famous letters, isketch.net.

I type in my name, clicked to Log on.
Join English Easy and see who's drawn.
I scout about and notice the newbies
To some, friendly, but to many a disease.
"Sorry! Sorry! I didn't mean to write!"
"So your hand just slipped? Yeah right."
Again and again the genital draws!
iSketch needs to enforce their laws.

So with courage I wander to "Feedback."
"Couldn't start Outlook." *Heart attack*
Oh, it's alright--it's just a mailto.
I'll open up Hotmail and send it straight through.
So I whip up my application for Administrative intents
It sounds so suck-upp-y when I write my experience

And it'll take so long to process...

From ISKETCH to the FORUM

I have a few minutes of my day to spare,
Shall I start sketching and see how I fare?
Kids may be on now, writing without a care,
Easy rooms best avoided, Expert be my lair,
Tricky words galore here, yet I continue to dare!
Clues once hazy stare back at me with a glare!
“Hear-hear!” they cheer, as my name spins in the air!

Full of first-place frivolity, I find a Favorite from IE,
Opening to Pete’s place, my progressive propensity.
Raucous rants, revealing replies; I refresh with regularity
Until I add an anecdote or an alliteral allegory.
Much musing and mayhem with mates, most merrily!

Gone Sketchin'

Isketch is a game, I like to play
For too long I tend to always stay.
From the scoring and the sketching
To the friends and the guessing
Why do I spend so much time here
Why can’t I go.
Is it the familiar atmosphere.
Why can’t I say no.
I know this all to well
Will I ever say goodbye
Only time will tell
Can anybody tell me why
For tomorrow I’ll be there at the familiar place
always sketching with a smile on my face.

Weird? Or Wonderful??!!

Through a place called iSketch Forum dot net
Some wonderful (and weird! ) people I've met,
But much like the game,
Not all are the same,
For there's many a blonde and brunette!

Fresh Prince of iSketch

Now this is the story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And Id like to take a minute just sit right there
Ill tell you how I got hooked on isketch and everyone there
In the prime meridian born and raised
In front of the PC is where I spend most of my days
Pinking out, guessing, drawing all cool
And all sketching some pictures all within the rules
When a couple of noobs who were up to no good
Started drawing willies on the drawing board
People in the room, well their tempers got flared.
Cos stats'd been reset and they couldn't vote there.
I whistled for an admin and when they came in
The name was in bold and I started to grin
These trouble makers, they just didn't care
Called the admin rude names, drew a willy with flare
I managed to count to about seven or eight
Just then the admin said 'Yo, catch you later'
Looked at the chat box to see what was there,
And the bad guys are blocked. Goodbye to that pair!

The iSketch Villain

I come into your room at night,
I will give you a terrible fright,
I'm strong and tough and I talk street,
I typ lyk dis cz i iz l33t!
While you're playing, I'll type rude words
Into the guess box, and call you all turds!
I know you're all afraid of me,
Because I know how to get your IP.
That then makes me a super hax
I continue to insult you to the max.
Don't tell me i just want attention,
I have too many friends to mention,
I only come in here you see
To cause offense and misery.
What's that you say? You don't believe?
Well actually I'm an admin, so nobody breathe!
You're all under arrest, I'm FBI
and iSketch users are sentenced to die!
Why are you laughing? I told you, I'm evil
No.. I said evil, I'm not a weevil!
Right that's it. My draw, it starts
Prepare for the ultimate work of art.
I sketch some balls, all covered in hair,
And the rest of my sketch I now prepare,
Here it comes - the ultimate draw
To shock, to offend, to... hey! Noo! awwww!
Now I'm banned, but at least I know
That I'm the best. The star. The show!
I may be gone, but you can be sure
That another will take my place on the floor
Us iSketch villains will never stop
Until bedtime when mummy turns the PC off.

Ode to iSketch

Once when I looked on the net
Saw something that did make me fret
I had found a game
That was totally lame
And it made me so very upset

This game that I just wouldn't play
Was forgotten the very next day
For I found another
(All thanks to my brother)
I just didn't know what to say!

This game called iSketch he had found
Was fantastic, round after round
I never looked back
'Cause there's nothing it lacked
And I loved all the cute little sounds!

With so many rooms to choose from
I just wanted to try every one
I like to play tandem
Or pick one at random
But leave if the drawer hits "done"!

As I come to the end of my rhyme
(And thank you for sparing some time)
I hope you'll remember
To join as a member
When memberships fin'lly arrive!

More Than Just a Game

Isketch is more than just a game
as the social interaction and insight we gain
mean it’s quite right to say we’ll never be the same
as before. The friendships we make are sometimes even more
genuine, true and full of trust than in real life
that we feel we have someone to lean on during times of strife.
Knowing that someone many miles away cares about the madness
may not erase the nightmares or the emotional scars, real life drama and sadness.
It does help us cope though
especially at times when we lose all hope
and hit rock bottom, when it seems like the therapy of chatting, and the distraction it is supplying might be the only thing which stops you from crying.

But life goes on- and slowly we heal...and grow together as people, so that we start to feel
like it is fate which brought us together.
It’s never too late or too early,
Yet so much time has passed that the line between dreams and reality becomes blurry.
How could it at all happened so fast?
If only these moments of happiness moments could last
It’s sad that inevitably politics can get in the way
if only people would think about what they say.
Words can be cruel, especially when people throw them around without thinking and they disregard past rules.
As quickly as friendships are made- they may rapidly fade
Leaving you with a feeling of despair and grief
In order to find some relief you escape the online world for a while
Then it’s back to the original people in real life who used to make you smile
It seems like we’ve come full circle-the beginning has met the end
But not quite- as your real friends always lure you back
as there’s always someone on here who can lend
an ear and make you feel happy
when the day has been crappy.
The rest is all unimportant: the points, the newbies, the kicking and the actual game
It’s the people who really matter- and because of them, we’ll never be the same.

My Love

Oh iSketch, how I could write essays about your blue sheen,
Your pink kilt, Your waving greet.
Your liney buttons and curvey boxes get me feeling emotions I have never felt before.
You make my fingers move fast and my pulse race whenever I am playing on you,
I have never felt a love so true about something so simple and blue.
Oh iSketch I love you.

How does it work if you enter 2 poems? The one with more points gets the score? Or it's divided?

Oh, sorry, just read, it's a straight race with 1st, second, 3rd etc.

So actually, it's an advantage if you entered two, potentially.

Saffron
08-03-2009, 11:30 PM
The one with the most points gets you your score. The other is then taken out for the remainder of the scoring. You can increase your chances of winning by entering 2 poems, but you can't 'win twice'. :D

OK Medea., Why don't we reveal all of the authors apart from you? That way no-one will ever know which one you wrote...

I really want to know who wrote what! And no-one has anything to be embarrassed about, they are all cool.

Well done, Vik! I loved your poem! I was one of those people who voted for it ^_^

Ches, your poem was quite good too. I hadn't listened to the theme song for Fresh Prince of Belair before, but your poem made me go youtube it :) Catchy song, and nice adaptation ;)
