Can someone please tell me the difference between a Mac and a PC?
I looked it up, and I couldn't find any adequate responses...
Wikipedia didn't help.
Yahoo/Google search didn't help.
Whenever I'd ask somebody, the most I could get is something along the lines of,"Mac's suck."
But, I see people on here apparantly very dedicated to their Macs, so please, explain the difference.
Systemshootouts.org is a nice site which compares systems within a price range and style.

Macs are capable of running Windows if you want, but the main difference is that they come with Mac OS X, which is unix based. As it's a different operating system a lot of Windows software won't work on it. Also, getting inside a mac and playing with its gubbins is trickier than a PC, but that's part of what makes a mac so lightweight I guess.
Macs are less prone to viruses cos no one writes viruses for Macs. heh. They're probably written on macs, tbh. :P

Here you go! This is probably a more Mac way of describing the differences. I think Ches's was PC-style

Edit: If you want to know why a Mac's great, it's probably a job for MsNerdinator! Isn't she spearheading the Mac movement around here?

Proud owner of a Mac, lol. *flashes her signature* I think Sierra would know all about the ins and outs of a mac, as she's been using them for many, many years. Probably around the time I was born.. :P /runs for dare life.
Unix v Microsoft. That's the main difference, as already stated. The layout of the Operating Systems are very different. The way things are stored between the two are different too. Macs don't have any of this D, E drives business. I find it's far easier to get to what you need/want. Insert something via the USB/DVD drive and wham! it's on the desktop.
I was a PC user for yeeeears, and then converted to a Mac about 3 years ago. I think Macs are more reliable. When on a PC, I'd find that they'd crash more often, freeze up, or get the dreaded Blue Screen Of Death  I used to have problems monthly, even though I had so much protection on my computers.
I've not had a single problem on my mac yet. It probably will crash one day, as all computers do. But 3 years without viruses, crashing, freezing, etc is beyond great! It just runs so smoothly, and it becomes a very personal computer to you.
As already stated though, it's not compatible with a lot Microsoft software. I think it's more of a case that Microsoft not making things properly compatible with UNIX  So that is probably the only disadvantage for me. All the positives outdo that one big negative, though. Oh, and Macs do not suck! I know people have a look at them and test it and find it hard to use. It's not hard to use, just completely different to a PC, so it just takes a few days to get used to the different layout and the way everything is stored. *goes quiet now*

i just bought a mac on.... friday i think, no saturday so i've been getting used to converting from a PC and i find it's not really that hard to get used to once you find the equivilent functions between them.. another thing is trying to find the programs that help you do things.. like well, play iSketch :P
overall i like mac better than my old pc, it runs a lot smoother
I like puppy :o) I can take my operating system whereever I go.
I also run XP and Fedora from home.
I should get a Mac for the experience, but I imagine they're pretty similar to linux comps.

Thank you for all of the timely responses!
I'm not sure which one I'd like better...
I haven't tried a Mac.
But, from the sounds of it, I think I'd like the PC better.
I play a lot of games.

Yeah, PCs are better for the games. I don't really use my computer for games though, so I was okay with that. Macs are great for people in the design field :)
