Can I lower the tone cos I'm not really a footie fan. I bought a birthday card today which reads as follows : -
The football team a man supports can tell you a lot about what he's like in bed....
Manchester United - Always on top, scores every time but never goes down.
Liverpool - These guys stay up for ages but never really get on top!
Tottenham - Start well but tend to flop easily when tackled by the opposition.
Arsenal - However many times they score you're guaranteed to see a lot of Seaman (yeah a bit out of date but nvm)
West Ham - These guys have to work extra hard to stay up and can for weeks without scoring at all before doing it all the time!
Manchester City - Can't stay up, so always go down....
So... as a woman... you'd prefer a Man City supporter...
On Topic:
Yay! - No Manager
Yay! - Potential Owner, might be penniless/future jailbird/slightly dodgy/got mentioned in the business section of Private Eye - always...not good signs.
Yay! - Portsmouth sold us crap players in the 90's, we give them free good players now.
Yay! - Team spirit is great, with the 'leaders' all leaving
Yay! - We have strikers...apparently
Yay! - We're not as in as much trouble as Leeds - dodgy with Ken's control, then again... look what happened to Chelsea...
Yay! - We provide entertainment and pleasure for everyone, but ourselves...
...ah... back Off Topic again...at least we're good in bed.

Oh I thought this was a football thread. Turns out it's about soccer instead.
/me ducks before the rabid soccer fans try to explain their ridiculous theories about Association Football not being known as soccer.
It's funny wherever you go in the world, if you say "Soccer" they know what you mean. Nobody ever says "Soccer? do you mean Rugby League or Rugby Union?" They just know what you mean, but the rabid ones rant on and on saying - "It's football."
*** NEWS FLASH ***
GOOGLE "football" go on you know you want to.
First site that comes up - http://www.football.com/
Gridiron (American) Football - Surprise surprise - NOT the round ball game.
Second site on the list - http://afl.com.au/
Aussie Rules Football - Still not the round ball game
Third site on the list - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/default.stm
I think it was soccer related - but couldn't really tell tbh
10 links on the first Googled page for "football" and only 4 related to soccer.
GOOGLE "socccer" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_(soccer) and every link from the first Google result through relates to Association Football (SOCCER)
/me goes back to work - not happy because NSW lost in the footy (State Of Origin Series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_League_State_of_Origin)) last night.

rabid soccer fans
And rabid soccer fans you shall get, but i'm not one of them. I play baseball and hockey. Still, my dad and my brother are huge german DFB fans. My dad being from Volksdorf, a little suburb of Hamburg, and my mom being from wilhelmshaven, if you think i root for Hamburg you'd be right, because wilhelmshaven hasn't a team that's not worth ♥♥♥♥ in the league, though i hear the navy's team is kicking the luftwaffe's ass in football and i guess that's pretty good news for wilhelmshaven.
But my true football heart lies within the Carleton University women's varsity soccer. My goodness how i ogled those girls. And when they played Germany's women's team, i mean, i almost had a heart attack. Yet all my attempts at the bar later that night were futile. I'm not that goodlooking, i dance badly, even i'd run away if i pulled one of my "moves" and my german is c r a p p y. But i got to ogle some more, and they do look nicer all prettied up. lol.
But that's as far as i'm going to go on this topic. Ottawa got to stanley cup finals and got its ass whooped, but that's ok, there's always next year. And they got to the finals, whatever.

OH. by football, you mean soccer, right? because.. Manchester United is a soccer team. i think.
hmm. what do the Australians call it?
EDIT: oh. BM basically already posted that.
er... go.. England!
Ottawa got to stanley cup finals and got its ass whooped, but that's ok, there's always next year. And they got to the finals, whatever.
oh. darn. :(
who won the Stanley Cup, then? we almost won last year... we were in the final, tied 3-3 for the games... then we lost that last one. but our city had been getting crazy... there were like.. stampedes down Whyte ave, drunken people... it was absolute nuts. we were all sad when we lost. :(
Any game where you predominantly use your hands being called football is a bit of an oxymoron. I think instead of Basketball, I'll start calling it headball, because every so often someone might get a ball hit their head.

GOOGLE "football" go on you know you want to.
Google searches are tailored to the country that you're in. Otherwise search engines would be a bit rubbish.

Good one Ches.
Our Football (soccer) is obviously correct. American Football should change it's name to avoid confusion.
Which came first anyway? Had to be the beautiful game.
It's called football here in Germany too. Fußball at a push, which doesn't particularly hinter understanding. I think most European countries would call it football, so people here say the word because it's the one they were brough up to use. In a conversation with a 'soccer' user, any confusion gets cleared up in about a second. We understand that you call it soccer, and you all understand that we call it football so it's no biggie :)
So do'n worry (do be do do do do) about a ting! (do be do do do do do)
cause every little ting is gonna be alright! (do be do do do do do)

Well, in response to everyone's discussions regarding what it's called, who cares as long as Tottenham win?
Besides, most teams end or begin with FC. Meaning Football Club. So it's football anyway.
* el_pedro cheers on the mighty Tottenham

Yeah, the oilers played elegantly through the whole season last year, not sure what happened this year, I had hoped for an all canadian final, an edmonton-ottawa or montreal-bc or someting. My guess is that oilers coach whatshisface mactavish had a brain cramp the whole season. Such a shame.
Ottawa went almost undefeated to the finals. Conference finals were against the sabres, it was tough but they pulled through easily 5-1, didn't need a 7th game. But the finals was quite the opposite. Lost the first 2, won 1, lost 2 more. The anaheim mighty ducks took the cup.
But back to football. Who's up for a game of foosball?

it was because we lost Pronger to Anaheim... and some other players?! and then since the Oilers this year had no chance of winning, we traded Smyth to New York for a bunch of rookies... arrgh.
okay, sorry. no more hockey talk from me. xD

Ches all i can say is i love you, i have to say bad manners post got me quite upset(in a violent way not a crying way) and you took the words right out of my mouth
In regards to getting back to the point of the thread my team is and always will be:
Bristol City
i am not a glory hunter like those who support premiership football teams ans dont actually live anywhere near them or watch them on a regular basis.
i believe if you support a team, love em' cause you watch them and follow them through all the trials and tribulations.

Once again we are away for the opening and closing fixtures, this is the 4th year running.
I am hoping that in the next few weeks I will get a letter offering me a season ticket, not gonna happen though. I have been on the waiting list since 1995.

I can't understand that Mike. It's not always sold out at Anfield so why can't they make more season tickets available.
Of course if you are desperate for a season ticket you could always get one at Ashton Gate and bump the figures up a bit:smile:
