Oh laugh you may - but I assure you - the walk from the beach to the shops across a burning asphalt road, stopping and balancing on the white line in the centre because it's cool underfoot, is not something you do more than twice (once to get there and once to get back). Thongs are the saviour of our feet. They are also good to wear if you are showering in places that have shared facilities like caravan parks. I still worry that you northern hemisphereans insist on shoving them up your bums though. Seems to be just a little too strange for my liking.

/me hopes no one decides to wear northern hemisphere type thongs.

I have 3 pairs of flipflops - one that I wear around the house instead of slippers in summertime, one that I wear out and about when it's hot, and one that are a bit fancier that I'd wear on an evening out to a beer garden etc. They are great, but I wouldn't call them thongs!
