Forum-related word list

I am interested in trying to create a new "Isketch forum-related" word list. This would probably be geared for you folks who often visit this forum. If you have any suggestions for this word list, it's pretty much a free-for-all at the moment, as you are what is the essence of the forum.

Please suggest new words to this list on this thread.

ooh this could be fun, just some ideas off of the top of my head:

Banned
Twirl (in honor of Jen)
Clocky

...maybe the names of some of the people? (oh and if there are two word phrases allowed, it might open it up a bit, but when playing i prefer one word, so whatever you like)

I like this idea Mindraker, but it is usually quite difficult to come up with at least 1500 words. If we can collectively do it, I'm up for helping out.

From experience of making two wordlists for iSketch, I find it easier to categorise words before adding them. By this I mean defining categories such as "Arcade" and "Forum Members", and then filling in words that belong each category. This way helps me to add in words that I may not have thought of adding.

Also, if you make the list in an Excel file (:geek: :razz:), and sort it into alphabetical order once you are finished, this will make it much easier to erase any duplicates that may exist.

Oh, and one other thing. iSketch sometimes doesn't like apostrophes, so probably best to avoid words containing special characters :)

If you wanna do forum members I'd sort the names by post number and go and take off all the ones with more than like.. 50 posts? I dunno. :)

I think one word that no one wants to see on the list is hearts... ;) Don't want to have to find that bad boy again. :P

So we have different categories like "famous users" (twirl/Jen, Clocky) and "forum games" ("Last post wins" or something), in which we make the sublists?

OK I'll futz with it somewhat and see what I can make up. If someone wants to send a userlist or word suggestions, please do.

There's a few words and phrases that could work (e.g. from competitions/tournaments etc, and arcade related like db suggested and I'd be happy to give some help), but I personally think it's a bit self indulgent to add usernames to a wordlist, and would rather mine wasn't included (if you were even planning on that...) I also think adding usernames would be rather short lived and almost elitist since people come and go.

But don't mind me, make whatever lists you like.

But a thought - this is not the only forum for iSketch. Do you wish to include only this forum, or other forums too?

Also, I think something that needs to be borne in mind is the 'drawability' of a word/phrase.

I see where NoHints is getting at with the elitist part about adding names, but personally I don't mind if you want to add names to a list, but I'd rather they didn't take up more than say - 20% of the word list.

I would also be happy to chip in a few words.

I did a search yesterday for the other two forums that I knew of, and both of their domain names had expired... maybe they moved to different sites?

I don't mind if you want to add names to a list, but I'd rather they didn't take up more than say - 20% of the word list.

20%*1500=300... I would say there will be closer to 50 names, or about 3%, so it really wont clog up the word list.

OK folks I've messed around with the arcade game list a little and put the users who have made both over 50 posts and made a post since January 01, 2010. I figured that was fair; it doesn't eliminate anyone current. If I missed someone, just let me know. (If there is anyone on there that shouldn't be there... similarly, let me know).

OK... I know some people more by their avatar than by their names. I think maybe someone like Tempus Fugit could be included (no real debate there). And you're right, in a year, some of these people might not still be here.

Two sites I know seem to have expired and another one has stopped showing up in search results. I guess it's just this forum then...

You could always have it as MooDood. instead, but I would agree with nh and storm that forum members names shouldn't be added for the same reasons that they have mentioned.

Well, 830 that kind of was the idea... a wordlist specific to the iSketch forum, the people, the goings-on between the game and the forum... that sort of thing (e.g., the iSketch arcade is related to the isketch forum). Did you have something else in mind?

Re: Apostrophes the word lists seem to take apostrophes just fine - just finished the Stargate wordlist and tested it - I had names like Teal'c etc and they come up fine - I was a bit worried about that too.


Re: People's id's I think too if you DO decide to add them - I would personally get them to give you their permission via this thread.

Otherwise I think you'd be surprised how fast you can come up with 1500 words or more.

I think maybe custom ranks can be added as words and maybe it won't be as sensitive an issue as usernames because the actual name isn't being used. Also, once a rank is awarded for whatever reason (service to the forum/winning a forum game/etc) it is usually a permanent fixture to a username so people see it even if the particular member isn't active anymore.

Here are all the custom ranks awarded so far. The usernames are next to the ranks so you can ask for permission if you want to add ranks.

Saffron - "Forum Spice"

Seems like the list is coming on quite well. 830's suggestion makes sense to me if you needed stuff to boost the number of words on the list. Basic stuff about iSketch is relevant to the forum too.

For the category of Forum Games, you seem to have missed some Foxy classics such as "What's my Coin? It's a Coin", "What's in Barry George's Pocket?" and "Don't Wake the Surgeon!".

hm, if u want . i can go through a list of isketchers i know and list all the nicknames i've given them :P :D or like..little things that remind me of them, they wont be so obviously them...so that might help?

kinda like..when playing isketch, we come across words that remind us of a player (hippo = happyhippo, clock/time=tempusfugit, cows = moodood///Loviii-x, moomin = foxy..well that ones not in the game. but still..thats the idea)

We could just submit to Feedback now and see what they say, I think the 1,500 word limit is more of a guideline to avoid too many repetitions. Plus it probably would be made for UCRs only, as it is a "specialised" wordlist. In that respect 1,039 words may be enough :)

After squeezing another 166 words into the list and removing another 5 duplicates, I submitted the wordlist to Feedback today.
The wordlist has a grand total of exactly 1,200 words :)
