Just a suggestion
Is there any possibility that members could have an option of different types of skins? The Halloween theme was brilliant... but I am getting a little bit fed up with the current blue default theme.
It would be nice to have either a fresh new skin or the ability to select different colour schemes etc.

Ooerr.. that would be awesome :)
I'm all for this if it's possible XD
I don't mind the blue so much, but if there was something more.. flattering (?) then I'd use that instead (:

How about a competition to design skins and the most popular gets implemented? XD

Thing with the current skin is I've tried to make it have an iSketchy feel what with the background and the buttons. Blue just seemed the obvious choice of colour because it's quite cold and doesn't really contrast with grey.
I could give designing a new theme a shot. I don't imagine it'd be too hard changing the colour scheme of this theme, would just have to open up the images in photoshop, put them under a hue or colour/saturation layer and then save them up again.
I wouldn't mind setting up a comp if there's enough interest. I can't say I'd make the winning theme the default but I certainly wouldn't mind adding it to the list of available themes.

Pink would have been the obvious choice for me
A competition sounds good

I'd have no idea how to design a forum skin, but a competition sounds good! I like yellow :)

The competition idea sounds great :D
I'm sure we have some good enough artists here to give it a shot.
As each and every one of us has a different taste, why don't we have multiple skins?

Not just normal pink.......Bright, Luminous, HOT PINK!
I think there's a lot of creative and artistic people on this forum, therefore a competition is a great idea for them to show off their skills.
Valentines Day is coming up....can we have a lovey dovey red theme for a week?

in the bottom left corner of the screen where it says --iSketch is where you can change your theme, and the only reason why i knew that was because i was playing with buttons a couple days ago so if you go into that menu you can pick out the Halloween one so you're not stuck with this design, although it is my favorite.. it just makes it feel like iSketchforum

I'd imagine there would need to be some coding before the skin got implemented so if we wanted loads of new skins, Peter or Ches would have to spend some time coding the designs to make it work properly. I think it must be like how customzing a background on blogspot works (when you want a personal and unique layout)
I think for the competition... we could take a screenshot of forum page, and stick images over where the buttons and links are now, add any background images, then put the customized screenshot up for voting?
That might work, unless someone has a better idea for how people can present design ideas?
You know what would be a nice idea, a forum design team who's job it is to design and create styles and language packs for the forum.
Could easily be done using the /testvb/ allowed testing forum, and then the design team head could be given JUST enough access on the main board to apply the style/language to the main forum/
Meh probably going over the top a lil though. But it would at the same time allow the team to work on seasonal styles too like valentines day, Halloween, Christmas, etc.... And at the same time save peter the trouble of doing it too.

I think it be best if I provided a page of the forum with a simplified/commented CSS file and a bunch of images that need to be edited. I think that'd make it easier than layering it up.
Needs to be a liquid layout too so having a HTML file would be useful for testing patterns. Else we'd get people producing designs that require massive template changes.

Yeah, that is a nice idea, perhaps if we held the comp and some good-looking & feasible designs came out of it we could look at putting a team together. That reminds me, need to look at finding some more up-to-date language packs, I know there's a Russian one out for 3.8 :D

Yeah that's a better way of doing it. I wasn't sure if it was possible to have a page to test on, but if we can, that'd be much better.
Can we each have our own test page lol? Won't it be hard if we're all trying to work on the same page?

I was thinking just I'd just provide a zip folder to be downloaded so you could test locally...
