To make the rules completely clear
and not run out of time
I’m going to explain the rest
without the use of rhyme.

(and can all green and orange people please turn a blind eye to double posting just this once (or twice) , so I can keep all this clear……….kthnks^^)

SCORING FOR STAGE 1:

For every answer you got correct from the clues, and sent me an image of, you will receive
2 points if you got it correct without a hint
1 point otherwise.
This excludes the first clue (SAND) – if you got it with or without a hint, you get 2 points (this is because I put the hint up for everyone to see)
I have also excluded Clue 3 (QUEEN) from the scores for this round, because I realised I did not deal with the answers to this in a consistent manner , and this may have unfairly disadvantaged some people.
The maximum points you can score from this stage is, therefore, 22.
Everyone who entered can continue on to the next stage – you do not need to have answered all the clues correctly.

CLUE 1: - SAND
Gravel is above me, silt is just below (in Geology an individual sand particle is between the classes of gravel (just above in size) and silt (the next size down)
I am immersed in concrete bricks and glass. (All these things are made with sand)
Watermelons love me, (Watermelons grow best in sandy soil) golfers don’t, you know! (think sand bunker)
I can be somewhat dangerous to blast. (sandblasting can be dangerous)

Edit: hint - The first line is referring to Geology, the second line includes things that are made from this.......

Keep the doctor from your door, (“An apple a day keeps the doctor away”)
Eve used it to tempt Adam. (Whilst the Bible never actually states what kind of fruit the tree of knowledge bears, it is widely accepted that it is an apple)
Prompting Isaac Newton’s law (when an apple fell on his head, Newton began thinking about the law of gravity)
I’m sure you all have had ‘em. (who hasn’t eaten an apple?)
Steven Jobs and Wozniak (Apple, Mac, say no more )
should give another clue
So now you know the answer
– you know what to do!

CLUE 3: - QUEEN
Brian, Roger, John and Freddie strut their unique stuff, (Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon and Freddie Mercury = a band named Queen)
While George’s daughter struts a different style. (Queen Elizaeth ascended to the throne after the death of her father George VI)
1992 became an annus horribilis (In her speech of this year, in which three royal marriages failed, and there was a fire at Windsor Castle, the Queen referred to it being an “annus horribilis”)
– the worst one for this woman in a while (see point above)

This animal (a mammal) includes Arctic, Kit and Red, (Arctic Fox, Kit Fox, Red Fox)
eats gingerbread and generally is sly. (The Gingerbread Man was eaten by a fox at the end of the story, and foxes are known to be sly)
Michael J could tell you what this animal is called, (Actor: Michael J Fox)
and Alexandra wrote a story about pie. (Poet: Alexandra Fox)

Please do not confuse me with a teacher in Tibet (Lama)
I come from somewhere different to there (llamas are not in Tibet)
I have something in common with an aardvark and an eel (all animals with first two letters the same)
And I also have no eyelashes – that’s rare! (it’s true, according to Wikipaedia)

CLUE 6 – FANTASY
If the pictures down below did represent one word,
What do you think that single word might be? (first pic is a fan, second is a daisy – put them together and you get FanDaisy – when you say that kinda quick it’s fantasy.)
Find a picture of that word and save it with the rest,
(I think these may be interesting to see) (some peoples fantasies might be interesting to see, don’t you think?)

CLUE 7 – RACECAR
This word is a palindrome. (the word is spelt the same backwards and forwards)
So if you were to hike
200k from Sydney (west) (200km west of Sydney is Bathurst - google search with the term "200km west of Sydney reveals this :P))
you’d find what most boys like. (Bathurst is famous for the V8 Supercar race – the Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama – and most boys like the racecars….. )

CLUE 8 – STAR.
One less than the opposite of finish (opposite of finish is start – drop one letter)
I’m also less than Nerdy’s evil stare (drop a letter from stare).
More of me is destiny - the more of me the better. (plural ‘stars’ is your destiny/future – things are generally rated using stars, and the more stars, the better the ranking)
Cut an apple sideways and I’m there (try it)

CLUE 9 – ORANGE
No other word in English rhymes – apparently its true, (although if you are from the US and you pronounce it AW-RINJ then you might accept door hinge…..)
though MiniSaff says she can think of one (she says syringe though technically that’s only a half rhyme)
Peter was this once alone, but now he shares with Ches. (admin = orange on this forum)

Just think hesperidium. (a modified berry with a tough leathery rind – oranges and other citrus fruit are common examples)

The hunt begins with me posting a clue in the form of a rhyme. You have to work out what the answer is....then find (and save) a picture of it. Don't send the pictures to me until I ask - just keep them all together and safe :biggrin: I will post a clue.....every now and then.......

After that:
you need to wait for further directions

Drinks is such a wide term, and at first, I was going down a different "speciality" of drinks.. Then when I diverted myself from that route and searched for others, it took me about 8 different drinks (reading about them, etc zzzzz) before I finally got there! I suddenly feel all clued up on drinks in general now, lol.

I've always been afraid to try that particular drink.. I didn't even know that this drink had a bunch of secret ingredients, lol. XD

This word is a palindrome. (the word is spelt the same backwards and forwards)
So if you were to hike
200k from Sydney (west) (200km west of Sydney is Bathurst - google search with the term "200km west of Sydney reveals this :P))
you’d find what most boys like. (Bathurst is famous for the V8 Supercar race – the Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama – and most boys like the racecars….. )

I think the answer for 6 would vary, just like the one for Orange. When I hear fantasy, I hear "fan-tuh-see", but when I hear fan daisy, I hear "fan day-zee."

But when I put the images together, I got fan-flower, so I searched for it, found images, and it's even on Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fan-flower

I only can understand the Orange one, however, because it is commonly said that it has no rhymes, although I agree door hinge kinda rhymes.

OMG - fantasy, I had such trouble with that one! I went down the latin route to find the name of the flower... then I was anagramming, then I did something or other which resulted in 'Chelsea Fan' which is a certain type of Marguerite (daisy). It was only when I said it out loud that I got it.

I thought queen was okay.. .

I didn't count points for this one, because I realised when I was tallying the points up that I hadn't been consistent in how I had treated the answer, and this may have disadvantaged some people.

To elaborate - some people said the answer was 'Queen Elizabeth' which I originally accepted as correct as it had 'queen' in it, but then someone just said 'Elizabeth' on the basis that the wording of the clue implied that the answer was a proper noun. And also someone else found Clue 12 difficult as they had 'Queen Elizabeth' as the answer to Clue 3 and there is a member called 'Elizabeth' on the forum, so they counted that member in Clue 12....

When people got incorrect answers, I PMed them to tell them it was incorrect and gave them a second chance to submit a new answer (at the cost of half points) - but I hadn't done this for the people who answered 'Queen Elizabeth'.....so you see the inconsistency.

In the end it was just a mess :eek: and to be fair to everyone, I just thought it would be best to not count the points for that clue.

LOL, I've had some late nights, and lengthy discussions over this competition :rolleyes: - but I just want it to be fair to everyone who makes the effort to be in it.

'Queen' is still included in the 12 words though and can be used in your picture for Stage 2.
