So here's a fairly under-used part of the forum.
I was exploring it today because I was looking for a permanent place to store drawings etc that were submitted as part of Forum Competitions.
And I've been thinking that it might be nice to use that space up there between the iSketchForum and iSketchGallery to add a little imagery to the front page of the forum......if you're not registered it shows advertisements - perhaps for members it could show images from the Gallery? Or winning Competition entries? or we could drive everyone mad and have the boy in the red cap with his hand on the mouse.......
No idea what's involved in doing something like this....or whether anyone would be interested in submitting drawings to the Gallery, it seems a little lonely there.....

I think this is a great idea! We could have a section just for Forum Competition drawings.

The boy in the red cap: XD
I think, if it's possible, having it show random pictures from the Gallery would be nice. It would attract some attention to the Gallery.
I also like the idea of winning comp pictures being displayed like that, but I think it might require some more time from the mods/admin to keep updating it and maybe they might not have that kind of time.
I think something that just needs a one-off code that then takes care of itself would be more practical/easier for the mods.
or whether anyone would be interested in submitting drawings to the Gallery, it seems a little lonely there.....
I would personally be more inclined to submit drawings to the gallery if I felt like the Gallery had some activity.
I agree, I think it is a bit neglected compared to the rest of the forum and considering we're all iSkers.

Sounds like a good idea but I *think* the adverts contribute to the payment/funds of the running of this forum. I could be wrong but that's usually why they're there. (would have been a lovely sentence in your ducky comp, eh saff?)

Uh-oh.. this idea would require some attention from Peter... Wonder where that lad is...
There is a VB mod that allows VB fora to have a "picture of the day" kind of thing, showing images selected randomly off the gallery. Peter and Ches would be the guys to talk to, see if it's possible.

They could do, idk - but for registered members there are no ads, it is just blank.
But anyway if it requires Peter, we may as well forget discussing it.
Edit: :embarrassed: Gosh, every time someone says something like that, he shows up.. I swear that man has a "someone's dissin' me on meh forum" filter somewhere.......

I agree with most people in saying that it is a great idea. It would work well with the Awards thread so people can see the actual winning drawings on the same page rather than going to a separate page.

It would be a great use for the empty space that registered members see, but wouldn't it be more beneficial if everyone could see it and not just registered members? It might attract new members who are wanting to show off their artwork.
Then again, some artists might not want their pictures to be displayed for everyone to see.

And such people would be quite unlikely to post pictures in a gallery anyone can view or enter a competition where everyone can see their picture...

RAWR! someone be dissin me on mah forearm. There was a mod I looked at a while that would show images on the forum homepage. The trouble is it wasn't collapsible and I thoght it'd take up too much space. There is a collapsible version now though which I wouldn't be afraid to impliment if there was enough support for the idea.
As someone else said it might help draw some more attention to the gallery.
If anyone is looking for an example of what it look like-ish take a look at the one they have at this forum that uses it (http://hiderefer.com/?http://www.rickshawforum.com/forums/index.php)
On another note htf is a forum about Rickshaws more popular than this one which serve a game that is used by 1000s on a daily basis! I mean, Rickshaws!! C'mon!
Oh yes, the idea of making a gallery for user comps is also a good idea. I'll have to familiarise myself with the gallery system again because if it enables tagging it'd probably be best just to have one 'Competitions' gallery and then have a unique tag for each comp i.e. hallow2007.
Ah, yes, I like the look of that, Peter. However, I don't know why you are looking down upon me and my people (the rickshaw appreciating community). But yes, seems like a good idea.
One little piece of feedback I have about the Gallery though... would it be possible to increase the file size limit for the "Studio" section just a tiny bit? I dunno if I'm choosing a bad file type, but I save as PNG (JPGs lose some detail, and GIFs even more) and some of my files come out just a little bit over the 100KB cap... you know, about 100-120KB I get sometimes. So yeah, would it be possible? If not I don't mind just scaling them down or shaving edges off. :) hehe

Lmao, it's just so random.
I can up the limit, will make it 200KB or something...
Oh thank you so very much, pumpkin. :) That would be wonderful.

I can't comment on any of the photos in the Gallery.
I keep getting this message:
The following errors occurred with your submission:
Please complete both the subject and message fields.
The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 1 characters.
The subject and message fields are filled in. Bug? Can Ches or Peter fix it, please?

I've just tried it too and I get the same error messages. Also, just a slight point, when you preview an incorrect post, a message box says, "Please lengthen your message to at least 9 characters.", instead of just the 1 character.

/me blows the dust off this thread
Okay it's been a couple of years, this weekend I was hoping to integrate the gallery with the forum more but I'd forgotten about the errors that existed with the gallery. At the moment I've managed to fix all the smilies, post icons and get messages/comments working again.
Are there any other errors/problems with the gallery we don't know of?
One I am familiar with is using the notifications menu/accessing the gallery from the gallery.

This isn't too much of a problem persay, but now that iSketch is now "iSketchHD", the size of the studio canvas is 480x480 pixels. The current uploadable size is 350x350 pixels, is it convenient to increase the uploadable size to suit the new studio size? No worries if it's not feasible, a simple edit will do the trick :)

I have an idea.
Can we have a Lounge and a Story room added to the gallery? Or.. a general, special, "other" room...
