View Full Version : Isketch HD!

Just logged onto iSketch and it now says iSketch HD! This is cool, it's a lot bigger, more space to draw :D
Finally an iSketch change for the better!
Ooh also the winning screen no longer features badly placed floating text and the bit that tells you which word you have to draw is nice and new.
Does everyone like it?

It is definitely making me want to play it more again! The screen resolution is a little on the small side for me, but that is probably just my settings. It just looks cleaner and smarter!

Was also great to have one quick game with gt in expert.

It is nice and that, but the problem of it being so big is that it's harder to conceal when I'm supposed to be working :s

Good to see some constructive changes on iSketch.

It's very nice! As of this morning (the morning of the update) the shockwave player has been freezing up occasionally and giving me a popup error. It's no big deal; all I have to do is reload my browser web page, and I can re-enter. I'm just assuming people are still making changes to the game as we speak?

Yep, this is a nice change which I think will improve people's first impressions of iSketch as well, making newcomers more likely to visit again.
Hopefully this isn't another change which has removed people's saved sketches though :p

:) I like ittt. speciallyy having the extra room for drawing...
But I do have the freezing like Mindraker =/ only happens at the start of my turn to draw :(
Its nice, I like having more room to draw. No freezing for me. The only thing i dont like is that i miss the old celebration at the end, I rather liked it.

That's what I thought, too, at the beginning of my round to draw. But I hadn't had it happen often enough to be sure.

To be honest, it's new and we'll probably find some stuff out with it, like any new software. It can always be updated :)

Another change seems to be that iSketch doesn't tell you if you find a 3 letter word any more in multiword rooms.
edit: and also, when someone hints it doesn't say "the word contains X letters" etc anymore either.

Ah, well, updating shockwave didn't solve it. :( It seemed to help for a while, but it wasn't permanent. Still having the bug.

Someone else who switched browsers seemed to have no problem when s/he switched browsers. So when I switched browsers from Opera and to Firefox everything seemed to work OK again. I emptied my cookies on the "Opera" browser and just flushed things out and started over -- now things (for right now) seem to be OK.

You wasn't talking about any of us mods was you?
I like the bigger canvas as it gives more free drawing space and I can draw bigger pictures.

I agree there. Sometimes when I'm about to draw, a box comes up saying shockwave is having problems playing or something and then the game freezes and I have to enter the game again.
Other changes I've noticed are a yellow band at the top of the canvas when someone starts drawing and also a slightly different end of game celebration.

The end of game celebration was changed again today when the server was reset a few minutes ago. It's better now - not as blurry as it seemed just after HD came out.

Newsflash: I loathe iSketch HD.
Increasing the game window by 150% doesn't mean that any "constructive", efficient, or impressive design changes were made. I don't see this as an improvement. There is also an incredibly large amount of wasted space. Poorly done, in my opinion.

What do you mean by wasted space? The way I see it, if anything, less space is now wasted as the game takes up more of the actual web page and less is devoted to background.

I'm talking in terms of the chat box and the game box. There's no reason for them to be so big. The gamebox was essentially enlarged to give a larger drawing space; it was an adjustment made solely to correct one aspect of the site while forgetting the 20 other features of the site/game area.
Medea.
18-04-2010, 04:56 AM
Personally I like a larger game and chat box. It makes it easier to read what's happening in busier rooms.
I hate the new canvas, it's wayyy too big and renders rooms like Famous Faces and Fictional Characters where the use of Google Images is a must completely useless.
Also my draws seem clumsy and clunky..not sure why.
This sux :(

I kind of don't really notice much difference actually. I signed on for the first time in months the other day, because from reading this thread it sounded like the best thing since ummm....rainbow bread! (LOL)
I dunno...I like that there's a bigger drawing space, and the sparkly-shine on the login page (and the fact that there's no crazy, startling clown show at the start of the website)....the firework show is less cheesy, but still quite so.
But it did reunite me with the game (at an awful, horrible time right in the middle of exams), so that is cool :)

Oh and I also noticed, something not right with the symmetry tool saved sketches. They still have the old (344x344px) origin of symmetry if I try to view them after saving.
Pfft larger drawing = larger pron(maybe this is the way Rob likes it:razz:), and people will take longer to draw. I do not like this at all, I did try and rebel by using the magnify tool and drawing extra small but I doubt it is working., and I cannot use my beloved circle tool zoomed in. Perhaps I will just waste time and use the excuse "I GOT LOST ON THE CANVAS, IT'S TOO BIG"
So, They inscrease the drawing space but won't give me back the damn /users command (the one that shows everyplayer currently logged into the game). and the Notify list is still 10 people. I'd much prefer a larger notify list and the /users command so I can stalk the admins:twisted:. damn resource management...

A resolution option would be an interesting idea. For example, if there were some way one could choose the resolution for those running on notebooks and those running on tower computers -- but still have the drawings "look" the same for everyone.

why would anyone want to advertise HD on a website that doesn't have streaming video content?
even the firework celebration is poorly done. why is a blur tool used on the text? isn't HD supposed to make any video content stand out just by its own quality?
HD is high definition, which generally means higher resolution and thus a bigger (by pixel dimensions) area of the images which in this case is accurate as the draw area has increased in size. As for the celebration it's likely that has just been scaled up.

23-04-2010, 06:52 PM
is there a way to put it back to the normal old size?
=EDIT=
never mind, I worked it out.
If anyone wants it to normal size, click on the blue+grey stripy background, not the isketch window, and hold down ctrl+scroll the scroll wheel on your mouse down 1 notch. Refresh the page, log back in and it should be normal size and not fuzzy
If you don't have a scroll wheel, go to view (top of your internet browser window) and go to zoom and zoom out one notch, then refresh and log back in

Yeah, for me refreshing and logging in again makes no difference, there's still the same zoom issues as usual. Which browser and OS do you use?
I'm not trying to get it back to normal anyway though, just interested :)

Can try on Win 7 and Ubuntu for you if you like, got all 3 installed

This is what it looks like on my netbook (1024x600). Fortunately I don't actually play it on this. It only just fits if you hide the Windows taskbar and use the F11 browser fullscreen mode with absolutely no title bar or toolbars.

no beta testing required to know how such a change would affect lots of users. any developer with half a brain would know how this larger game interface would cause problems for small screen computers.
with any new changes beta testing is standard procedure to help analyse new changes but it's not needed in this case because it was obvious what the implications would have been from stage 1

Judging from that I would venture to guess your netbook has a higher resolution screen than the 1024x600 found on most models. The iSketch shockwave applet itself is 960x560, see page source:
InsertShockwave("iSketch","960", "560", "is105.dcr","9600")You have way more pixels on the rest of the screen around the game box than the measly 64/40 left over on one like mine.

One need only use the magic scrollbar to see them! It is a bit of a challenge for some people though ;)
And you're right Steiny, 1366x768.. should've checked that before!
