Hey guys,
Anyone here use last.fm? It's great for discovering new music as it collates all the songs you listen to and puts them into personal weekly charts.
It also refers you to a load of artists similar to people you already listen to so you can broaden your musical tastes. As well as providing a radio station where you can type a certain artist or genre and it plays music related to that specific tag.
I love it, been using it a couple of years but only really taken back to it after a break recently, as it's improved loads since a new update.
the website is http://www.last.fm
My personal profile is here (http://www.last.fm/user/Harry_kewell) tho if anyones interested
I don't work as a promoter for the website if you're wondering why i'm so enthusiastic about it. haha

I noticed it on my computer last night in my icons. My brother must have downloaded it but I didn't know what it was and it kept popping up everytime I put Windows Media Player on.
Now that I know what it is, I'll have a look at it
Last.fm is fun but i find pandora better.

I just started using it (prompted by a post somewhere here..think it was jenni) and like that you can listen to loads of stuff without downloading it, but having trouble with one thing. If you add a load of songs by one particular artist, can you just go into your library and play just those? Or one particular song? Because if I hit Play my Library, it opens as a music player with the whole lot.
I think the only way you can listen to an individual song by an artist you have to go on that specific artists page and listen from there because if you use the radio it only allows you to listen to similar artists.

Yeah, you can't really choose who/what you want to listen to... because even if you click Play My Library, it appears to play songs similar to songs on my library - so not necessarily only songs I've added - at least, that's what it does for me anyway. Find that a bit annoying coz if I want to sing along or something, I can't always, because some new song I've never head of, or don't even like, will pop up.
It has a playlist for songs you've marked as Loved tracks, but will only play them if you pay. It's such a good concept, I thought there had to be a catch

I like last.fm because it's got a huge community, forums, groups, free MP3s, several types of radio stations (by artist, genre, or create your own), and personal profiles!
Guys, you CAN listen to individual songs if you go to the artists' or bands' pages! Of course sometimes they are only 30-second clips and some songs aren't available yet.

Yeah, but that's not much fun is it. Might be just me, but it's torture for me to listen to 30 sec clips of songs, especially if they're songs I like or know. If it's a song I've never head of, I'd prefer listening to the whole thing too, as 30 secs isn't enough for me to decide whether or not I like it.
What I meant though, was that it won't play the songs automatically. If you're lucky enough to have an artist who has full versions of their songs on their profile, you still have to click each song to listen to it. It doesn't play them all one after the other.
Maybe you're lucky enough to have an artist who puts only full versions on their Song Player thing.

Yeah, storm, that's new. I don't know why Last.fm has changed the way their playlists work. It seems like there could be an entire separate page for each song now instead of an album playlist that you can just hit "play" on Song #1 and it'd go down the list automatically playing each song. Maybe there's an option we can change, or maybe we can petition Last.fm to change it back. Haha.
But 30-second clips are slowly disappearing on Last.fm -- basically the only way to hear them now is to listen to the song a few times while you're logged in and the site says, "You've listened to this song too many times" or something similar, playing a 30-second clip instead. As far as I know (I've tried it), you can listen to that same song unlimited times on the same computer while you're not logged in.
Last.fm has changed now, if you haven't noticed yet (I hate the look of it now), and since then, I've been able to listen to the full-length version of every individual song I've tried listening to -- of any genre.
I forgot to mention that I like that Last.fm provides widgets. I've added my Last.fm playlists to several sites before. It makes things fun.

Yeah, agreed. I liked the old design much more! It was easier to navigate too.

Yeah... did you do the OMI thing? It says my score is 59 or something and that was fine by me coz it was higher than Harry_Kewell's xD  I'm not sure I understand how the scoring works though, coz if it's gonna calculate a score based on tags and anyone can tag a song, then tags are gonna be pretty screwed.

Yes, I do the OMI thing occasionally and it's usually about the same. Right now it's at 137! That's so true about the tagging explanation.
