With regards to the new signings, there is no doubt Liverpool needed defensive reinforcements.
To be honest, I haven't seen much of Degan and Dossena. I've heard good reviews on Dossena but on Degan, I know very little about him and he was 2nd choice for Switzerland so didn't have the opportunity to see him play, although he did play in their previous campaigns, I didn't take much notice of the Swiss team at that time.
I am disappointed that Riise has left. He isn't the best defensively but he is a very good attacker and to be put behind Auerlio, an injury plagued player, I felt it had lowered Riise's confidence.
I feel that Steve Finnan will be surplus to requirements and having seen him play in person, he is a composed player but is very nervy on high balls, as I saw when it was Watford's one and only tactic.
I feel Arbeloa is a very good player, and attacks really well and should be first choice right back this season.
Carragher and Agger will no doubt be the prefered central pairing, and we have good cover in Srktel and Hyypia if teams decide to lump high balls forward.
The goalkeeping situation, I saw Reina against Watford at xmas 2006 and he was very fortunate to get away with two mistakes on that day. No doubt he is a brilliant shot stopper but he does have a tendacy to flap at crosses. Hopefully Diego Cavalieri will keep him on his toes.
Jermaine Pennant will hopefully be off loaded since he does not deserve to wear the Liverpool shirt. Against Watford, he got subbed as he was very poor, miscontrolling simple passes and over running the ball.
To be fair, against Arsenal in the FA Cup, he played his heart out but had a reluctance to attack the full backs. Only in the last 15 minutes he managed to unsettle Ashley Cole but he doesn't do it often enough.
Yossi Benayoun provides the flair, he doesn't have the greatest pace, but he can dribble and pick out a pass and will provide good competetion in midfield.
Up front, I feel it was right for Crouch to move, he isn't the most mobile player and if things are not going right for the team, he does become isolated.
Dirk Kuyt, plays his heart out and always gives 100%, but as a striker you need to be consistent infront of goal. Hopefully, he'll get a run of games upfront and not on the right side and show the form that he did on his arrival to Anfield.
As for other possible new signings, the Barry saga keeps dragging on and I do feel that he will sign, most likely at a fee in the £16m range and providing that Alonso does move onto another club.
I feel Robbie Keane will be a great purchase as he has the trickery and pace to scare defenses and can score unbelievable goals.
Albert Riera, I saw at Man City, always looked a threat but didn't see much of his shooting, which I feel to be a top quality player, you'll need to score your fair share of goals from midfield. I wouldn't value him no more than £9m and hopefully Liverpool will not go beyond that as I do see it as a risk, but hopefully it'll will be vindicated.
David Villa's valuation will be too high for Liverpool and David Silva I see is no more than £14m and since Valencia are in severe debt, I feel they have little option but to accept the best offer.

I have watched Degen play.Doesnot look good.Has a poor first touch,no control whatsoever. We need cover for strikers as well.David silva will be a good option but we dont have the funds needed to secure a high profile signing like him.

Must be yawning at the regular sight of Arsenal players wanting to leave for a bigger pay cheque
On transfer news, Liverpool are close to signing 19 year old French starlet David Ngog. But he may come with a certain Boumsong gene since he is Jean Alain Boumsong's cousin
