I want a cat tooo!
And why do they look so upset/sad? :( Was that picture taken after they were informed that you'd be the new owner? ;-)

/me runs off.. fast.. fast.. faaaaaaaast and far away!
Just messing :)
They have the same looking eyes. Way cute :))

They're sisters, from the same litter, the wife (hehe) went to view while I was at work and couldn't decide which one to get - so she got them both. Yay!

Their ears I think are a trait of the breed, there's one type where the ears are folded over slightly like that, but that might just be cos they're so young and they may straighten up over time. Hopefully

Your cats are really cute! I was wondering, where did the idea for the name Bramble come? I must say, very good name choices.

Deadlock
22-01-2008, 06:41 AM
Even before we found any kitten going for sale we were discussing names, we've also been doing the same for baby names - just in case you understand :D

We had a list of maybe 30 names, we tried doing that David Beckham thing of coming up with names according to places you've been or things that you like, which gave some interesting ideas: Vegas, Dollar, Mandalay, Capone, Neo (this was short for Neopolitan, like the ice cream, but also referenced The Matrix, hehe). Actually now we have got names for them I can't remember most of the ones on the list as they seem to fit the kittens so well its hard to think of anything else :D

Bramble came about as she says it reminded her of autumn (or "fall" as those Americans call it, he) and the colours just made her think of it. Hopefully its not because she's all scratchy and claw-y and always hurting your hands :S

Whenever anyone says bramble I think of the teacher/bloke at Epping Forest when I was a bit younger. We were investigating the vegetation and the guy would call it "bwaaaaamble" so we all started calling it "bwaaaamble" and it just stuck with everyone who got taught by that guy

I've never heard of it, until yesterday of course ;). Heh I feel more educated now. You know, this makes me realize I've never tried blackberries before...

A little update. Fudge (the one on the left) is now being renamed as "Kiss" as we like the fact her face is all stripey like a member of "KISS" ... Gene Simmons and all that ... hehe. :D

Deadlock

Final name changes have been decided. We are going back to Bramble and Fudge! Bramble is the stripey one, Fudge is the patchy one.

Like so:

Fudge:

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i78/deadlyrs125/Image035.jpg
Bramble:
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i78/deadlyrs125/Image034.jpg

Bramble has some beautiful markings, almost like Bengal spots on her belly. On her back she has what looks like a crucifix - stripes along her spine, then cross-stripes that go over her shoulders and down the sides. Freaky! On this pic however it looks like a St George's cross of England :D Sorry its a bit blurred. They move quick!

PS sorry for the state of the kitchen, its the only part of the house we haven't re-decorated yet ....

Awwwww, they're so cute! :D And they got so big! Deadlock, you need to learn how to take pictures lol

Btw, were you trying to let us figure out what gender Fudge was?

I got into a cat fight with a kitten from work the other week, my hand has a semicircle of scratches on it lol. To be fair, the kittens were very scared and defensive because one by one their siblings were being taken away, so I guess they were scared they were going to be taken away too.

Keep updating us on the cats, I love seeing kitties grow up ^_^

Ps aww, Deadlock's wearing his wedding ring now!

Deadlock
26-02-2008, 11:01 AM
Sorry - they're both girls, and a bit hissy at strange things, sort of hilarious when you see the size of the things they're spitting at: large screen TVs, 13 stone blokes ... they get all big and defensive. Fudge likes to get on her back legs and box until she falls over. Then forgets what she was doing.

Sorry also for the pics, I went back to using my old phone and forgot you have to hold it in a certain way as it stores them in a certain orientation, so unless I photoshop them I can't change them (not on this PC anyway, its outdated). I have a few more pics but am only allowed 4 per post, so in a little while I will put the others on, at risk of causing mass "ahhhhhhhhh" syndrome.

Like the ring? Two colour gold sort of inter-twined rope design. Still feels weird after 3 months :P

Tip for the day. If you run out of kitten food or your new kittens are just not interested, use ASDA corned beef. They love the stuff! Bramble nearly bit my finger off in her hurry to get it in her mouth ... yay kitties!

Yes, very nice wedding ring mate. You might not be used to it now but when it comes to you having to take it off when cleaning something you'll feel almost naked without it! :p

We were in ASDA (free plug for my favourite supermarket there) and we went down the kitchen cleaning products aisle. There was this stuff I wanted to get before the kittens arrived, a spray disinfectant, I picked the bottle up and it leaked all over me hands. I pulled the ring off and opened a bag of loo rolls to get the stuff off my hands - I didn't want bleachy fingers and besides it was their faulty bottle that got all over me so :P

Then realised I didn't know where the ring was - I was in a right flap. I'd put it next to the bottle that leaked. Yes it feels weird with it on - but I'd rather have that, than the panic I experienced when I thought I'd lost it :P

*AJ*

Aww... the wife would have beaten you hehe

Nerdy bought me a nice ring a year ago or something, every time I lose that I get upset and once it nearly fell down the bathroom sink! Ok, it's not a sterling silver ring and it was very cheap but it's pretty and I love it. Bet the idiot's head's gonna get bigger as she reads this  :p

MsNerdinator
27-02-2008, 11:24 AM
Haha, I was "aww"ing until I got to the last sentence.. rofl. Tart :P

And it does feel weird taking your ring off! :|
There have been a few times I've taken it off and can't remember where I've put it. I've got into a right strop over it.. hehe!

We were feeding the ducks the other day, and I was throwing the bread pretty far into the lake and got scared my ring would fly off  so I gave it to hubby to keep safe.. and felt naked. Heh. No winning!

Your kitties are adorable, Deady :)
Me waaants!
We wanted kittens of our own, but have decided to get them when we leave the country instead. Hubby did want to surprise me with some (aww!) but the flat we live in (for the next 2 and a half years) makes it pretty difficult to have one :( Plus, if little Nerdies come along.. we need some room XD

Hahah, I saw the title and thought: man, that guy's quick.
That's a very cute addition to the family.

We had a cat for a while. It wasn't a stray but it sat on our doorstep all the time, so we decided to adopt her, because apparently she didn't like her home. She was pretty cute (I remember her jumping up on the garden fence and onto my shoulder with her muddy paws on my light coat, and I still thought it was sweet). But my mum doesn't seem to like cats and her "NOT ON THE TAAAAABLLEEE!!!" scared her off for good. Two days after we bought all kinds of cat related items that eventually started spreading awkward smells throughout our basement.

I'm not sure I'll want a cat when I move out though. I'm not home very often. Pity, 'cos I really like cats and dogs.

The dog came with the girl I married :D She's nearly 3, very friendly chocolate Labrador called Amber (because of her amber eyes).

I hate dogs, usually. This one changed my mind. I walk her quite a lot out of choice, not just to score brownie points with the wife :)

Just got up and checked on the kitties and dog (its 7.30) and for the first time the kittens are purring! They climbed up the chair and lay on my chest making sounds like little motorbikes! What a heart melter!

/me goes off to work with a stupid day-long grin

We haven't got the speakers unpacked yet and have to listen to it using headphones :D There's also another DVD player lying around which was a spare from me moving in here, thats a total of 7.

Really enjoy how you constantly update the pics. Keep 'em coming!

If you don't mind me asking, what are the costs of keeping a dog and a cat? Is one more expensive than the other?

I really want a pet, but I probably wouldn't have the time to take care of him/her :( The closest thing I've had to a dog was a Nintendog (for the DS). It was fun, but I'd have fur over pixels any day.

Deadlock
20-03-2008, 01:16 AM
Kittens cost more than grown cats because of the cost of litter, kitten food (outrageous prices) and cleaning products, etc. Once they get to about 7-9 months and have had all their immunisations / operations / microchip datatags, they're allowed out and get fed real cat food. It becomes cheaper then, as you only have to buy a cat door for the house and they become very independent. At the moment I think they're costing £9 per fortnight in food and £8 in litter a month.

The dog lives on Bakers Complete doggy biscuit, fully nutritious etc etc. A huge bag of that stuff lasts a month, and costs £20 approx. So all in all it works out about equals, but when they get older the costs will drop.

As I type this I can hear Bramble in the kitchen where their bed food and water is, crying like its the end of her world. Fudge just goes to sleep like a stereotypical kitten, very independent. Bramble's such an attention seeker! When I let her out, she'll just run around then look bored. But its hard to listen to that noise! :(

If you want a pet, get a kitten (or a grown cat from a rescue centre). They more or less take care of themselves, and if you have access to a garden or grass thats even better. You don't need much time with cats, they just do what they want, grab them and comb them now and then, they'll love you for it, and the purring is very soothing after a hard days work :D

I forgot to mention before too, that I really like that picture of Amber and Bramble, "chillin'" in the same sort of position as each other :D Perfect camera moment!

And I'm loving Fudge trying to balance herself around the bowl.. heh. Towards the end when she was looking into the bowl made me laugh. "There's a face.. *gasp* Oh, it's just my reflection! *goes to have a closer look*"

Not bad for a cheapo mobile cam movie :)

Have updated, there are now 3.

Amber and Bramble get on quite well, Bram just doesn't run away. Fudge is nervous about everything, the best time to catch her at ease is when she's snoozing. Just a few strokes down her back and she goes all limp and purry. The rest of the time she's all "Whoa!" and runs off. We think she'll calm down as she gets older :)

PS Sorry for the "HA HA HA!" barking laugh when Fugde fell in the water ... was just me :S

Two months on, they are more or less grown up. Next week come the microchipping and spaying (shame) and they'll finally be allowed out at the end of July once their stitches and healing have completed.

Fudge has a tail that can touch her face, it curls right over her back and can hit her head.

Bramble is very chilled, but can howl at night loud enough to wake you. She's a bit needy in the attention department, but her purr makes up for it.
