Got an e-mail about this...

Have you read the article in the Sunday Express by Paula Murray about the Dunblane survivors?

page 1 (http://chickyog.net/sxp1.pdf) page 2 (http://chickyog.net/sxp7.pdf)

That is so twisted I have no words. How can anyone be so
a) irrational - just because they were in a massacre they must live perfect lives?
b) insensitive - isn't she the one digging up the dirt for no good reason?
c) such a media whore - OK, you want a front page story, but does that mean you have to be stupid?

On top of that, she hits the booze too (http://www.bloggerheads.com/archives/2009/03/paula_murray_drinks.asp
). So what is she saying? 'I've not been a victim of a massacre, therefore I am allowed to drink; but you have been a victim, therefore you must now lead a spectacularly model life'? Honestly... what? It's so pathetic.

Her e-mail address if you want to tell her to think before she types: paula.murray@express.co.uk

Oh gosh, that makes my blood boil, Storm.

So, they didn't stay nice little kids, they had the gall to turn into slightly obnoxious teenagers, bragging on the internet? So, they hang around with their mates and get a little drunk, and get ill-advised tattoos, and take-aways (she's seriously looking down her nose at take-aways???) - they sound like pretty normal teenagers to me!

There were kids in that school who never got the chance to do those things. There are parents who would love to have seen their child creep in past their curfew and try to pretend they haven't had a beer. If their lives have taught them anything, it's to live whilst you still have the chance. Seems to be what they are doing.

Sorsie - I think that's not right either. If someone can make themselves understood without knowing the language, he has no right to refuse service to them. Britain is multi-culti and thank God for that.

Mr Kumarasiri said he had turned away about six customers after he said they wasted his time and infuriated other customers because they could not understand English. [...] "I am part of a service but how can I serve them if I don't understand what they are asking for?"

If he genuinely can't understand what they're trying to communicate, I understand the difficulty.

"If somebody stands up and says 'sorry, I can't serve you if you can't speak English', then they'll think twice," he said.

If he's turning them away to teach them a lesson, that's plain wrong, in my opinion. He's not their parent to decide they must learn English.

Hmm... it must be hard enough living in a country where you don't speak the language... without being kicked out of post offices for it. It could be that he can't understand them and thus can't serve them, but it does sound like he's doing it to make a point.

Oh, but storm, what you posted about the Dunblane survivors really is shocking. As if they should be expected to live all shut away and be robbed of a normal life because they've been through a great hardship. If what they'd been through robbed them of a normal life, that would probably be the worst part of it.

Vik
19-03-2009, 08:24 PM
Yes - it's hard living in a country where you don't know the language. I can testify to that, as I did it.

Seeing as I had to do things like... eat... I HAD to try the teeny bits of the language that I had picked up/looked-up on the internet/made-up (lol) along with sign language - and you know the reaction I would get, nine times out of ten? Something along the lines of

'... wow, your German is really good, where are you from?... blahblahblah'

And the next time I went into whatever the particular store was, I'd always be welcomed with an extra-nice smile.

It encouraged me to learn and try really hard - it gave me confidence. In those times that I got a negative reaction, I would go right back into my shell and be scared to open my mouth for a few days.

Think about it for a min - the Germans more friendly and welcoming than the Brits? LOL!

A little encouragement and a little confidence goes a LONG way to even wanting to fit in with a community.

I've worked in a shop before, and have managed to help customers who either couldn't speak english or who literally couldn't speak. People can get their point accross without using words, but I can imagine that the types of things you'd ask for at a post might not be as easy to ask for that way... If he doesn't chuck them out, and he genuinely can't work out what they're asking for, he may as well have chucked them out because they may as well not be there, since they won't get anything from it and will only be holding up other people (which I think is what bothers him most).

And then I learned that the conditions in the human body aren't conducive to the growth of a plant, so I didn't worry...

What age does she think she will live to? How can she expect to be around for very much of the child's life?

Budden

My thoughts are that any new life is a blessing, but i have to think to myself that a women of 66 is being slightly selfish by having a kid so late.
Yes it will make her life fuller full of joy and happiness and im sure she will do a great job,but the long term effect on that child will proberly be devistating.
If this women dies at age say 76 which is a good age for most these days, that child will lose a parent aged 10.
I lost a parent aged 40 and it rocked my world to its core, i grieve even now and cry buckets some days.
Ok she may be lucky and live untill shes say 81, ripe age for a women id say yet that child will still only be 15.
I hope this lady has other family for support for herself and that child when she does finally die one day, we all need family to feel loved and supported.
I wish the lady a long life with much happiness in being a mother.

Ive just had an after thought and to contradict myself here.
Many people have kids deemed at a normal age eg mid twenties upwards, and many kids lose parents to illness traffic accidents ect some kids lose the parent when they are no more than babies ect.
So i now say to myself isnt her having a baby now as risky as bringing a kid in to life at any age??.

A very sad story from my local paper.

Our town's rescue duck has been brutally attacked while working its rounds. The duck was working by the Vue cinema at the Lakeside (its favourite beat for obvious reasons) at the time of the attack. It is believed that the duck, which works for the RSPCA, was in the area because it was attempting to rescue a kitten who was stuck underneath a tree.

We all hope that the rescue duck, who has in the past been nominated for a Queen's Gallantry Medal, will pull through. It has shown great courage throughout its life and has rescued many animals, and even people.

My thoughts are with you, Harold Waddler. :( Get well soon.

This article refers to Susan Boyle, Hollie Steel, Britain's Got Talent and competitions where children are competing against adults

Silly headline, but interesting content (http://entertainment.uk.msn.com/tv/realitytv/britains-got-talent/article.aspx?cp-documentid=147717029&GT1=61503)

The only line in that article that made sense to me was:

That pretty much sums up my opinion on the little 10 year old's breakdown and the big 48 year old's breakdown.

Defintely alot happening in the news as of late! Way too much to absorb at times it seems. Hmmm though the hoopla has died down over th H1N1 and people are feaking out with one or two confirmed cases in thier areas and parts of the world, we have had about close to 1000 confirmed cases in my region of Texas alone. Not many deaths, luckily, but yes it is still running rampant here. I am in the Rio Grande Valley, Deep South Texas Most of the cases have been in the county I live in (Hidalgo) and in Cameron county. Here is a small video on it. Our proximity to the border (in my town i live less than 12 miles from the actual Texas/Mexico border) and other leading factors have made this area VERY prolific for this thing. Those are the confirmed cases and does not include the cases of people too poor to recieve healthcare and do not get treatment, people that ignore the symptoms and just go on about thier lives without medical attention, those that are just waiting for the results of thier tests, and of course the illegal immigrants passing through this area to other parts of the country that are infected and do not get tested for obvious reasons. As far as I know, the wait for test results are backed up and could take a very long time to recieve. Our first death weeks ago was of a young teacher in the next city over from mine that was almost term in pregnancy. She slipped into a coma and her baby was delivered as she was dying from complications attributed to the H1N1. The baby was delivered with no illness and in good health.

Yes there is alot of hype about this flu but it is also hard hitting. Its no walk in the park having this thing. Its very draining and taxing on the body. Having seen the affects up close, its just BLEH in general. (almost 1000 cases of H1N1 ..does not include the confirmed cases of the "traditional flu" which was also raging here) Our doctor offices and hospital have been overloaded with all this. The main thing to learn about this, try to not spread the suspected germ about if you suspect you have any type of flu (or other communicable illness). The bad thing about this area is that most people do not go to the doctor if they have early warning signs that they are coming down with something, thus spreading it further. AND complicating that is that the treatment, Tamiflu, must be taken within 48 hours of onset of the illness but by then most people here are past that already by the time they seek medical attention.

Just be careful y'all! Practise good hygiene and do go to the doctor and get tested if you suspect something other than just a cold. Even the "traditional" flus can be deadly. Love you all very much! THIS post is not to scare or worry anyone just to advise everyone to be cautious and watch your hygiene alot more closely when you are ill or when others around you are. These are things we should do always (wash hands, cover mouth when sneezing or coughing ect) but sometimes, as busy as our lives can be, we forget or put them off...and well kids can be kids too if you are around any child for any period of time. Its always a good thing to be mindful of the way things can get communicated from person to person very rapidly and usually unknowingly. Just be safe out there guys. The flu, no matter which kind it is, is nothing to SNEEZE at.
