I posted this elsewhere and so far the most common reply has been that they thought it was funny.

I thought it was the most disturbing bit of fiction tv I've ever seen!

If you also think I'm wrong, I'm going to get the next rocket to the moon

Holy cow. That was unecessarily brutal, to say the least...

Hey kids, lets throw the puppy dog down the stairs and beat it senseless! Fun, fun!

I hope there is a spare seat for me on that rocket

Can I come too?
I actually didn't find it funny in the least, to be honest. I didn't even let out a smile. I'm not much for voilence like that. In films or in cartoons. I guess people have different sense of humours :) Which is quite expected. But to be honest, I'm not sure why someone would find it hilarious/funny.

I think perspective is important here... it's a cartoon dog and a cartoon baby. It's a cartoon designed for adults, not children, and should really be in the humour and debate section. Anyone who watches the series will know that the dog never pays up.... so we end up with the gangster-style behaviour from again, a cartoon baby-genius. If it's not your cuppa... don't watch it. It made me laugh in the respect that it was just so awful I had to, because it was ridiculous! Come on... that would never happen. In the first place... anyone ever known a dog borrow money from a baby? lol

I wouldn't condone violence, or cruelty to animals, but it's a cartoon.

/me chucks nay a tenner - here put this towards your moon ticket.....

It's a contrived entertainment by Americans - you know they don't do humour as well as the Brits.

I'm with Nerdy - not keen on violence in all forms, no matter who the intended audience is. I don't like boxing, for example (I always end up getting knocked out, ho ho ho). Not keen on seeing blood, no matter if it is animated. People are toughened up against that type of thing these days, but I don't want to be.

It's a very popular show in the states. I personally like it, and i believe it's intended by all means for adults, not kids, thus it gets shown very late at night in most networks, just like south park. Those cartoons are just not appropriate for kids. If you're worried about it being in youtube, i believe videos can be flagged as not appropriate for kids and such, thus they get filtered. I know the system's not perfect, but sometimes it works.

I love Family Guy. It's this sort of humour in particular that makes it so appealing. I can't view the clip cos I'm at work and its firewalled but I know the one you're on about. Very good stuff.
When is the 6th series out?
Also has anyone seen the episode of South Park where they reveal how the Family Guy storylines are created? Brilliance!

I didn't find this disturbing because kids would be able to see it, and I know it's an adult show. Here where I live they actually show it at 11 pm I believe (but I rarely watch tv so I don't know for sure).

Hell, I watch violent films too, and I actually like many kinds of fighting sports. And still I thought this went all the way over the top and back again. I don't care if it's a cartoon, it's what it shows that counts. If you show two people beating each other up in a film, you also know it's fake. Doesn't change the message.

A small gangster reference would have actually been good (and when he glassed him I actually thought it was kinda funny), but this just went on and on and on! Where's the subtlety?

(Oh wait, it's US comedy. Sorry)

the clip of family guy is out of context and has been edited and comes accross much more disturbing than it actually is.
i watch family guy on a regular basis. yeah it is a cartoon for adults and very random. but if you watch an episode in full you'll realise it's a bit of fun and means no harm.

Well I'm terribly sorry but I don't think you can make that funny for me in any context :D

But to each his own

you watched that episode of southpark and you still like family guy after it?

i don't anymore. . .that clip was funny though (but i bet you 20 quid that it had NOTHING whatsoever too do with storyline. . .family guy is just a sketch show)

Family Guy is mostly a skit ...or sketch... show, which is great since it grabs & keeps my attention and it practically allows anything to happen, but the show still usually has a storyline, even when the ending is completely unrelated to the middle or beginning. Even when it is sudden or random, the show makes transitions from one plot-related thing to another. You are still able to sum up the episode.

Family Guy rules. I admit that clip was violent, and the harsh sound effects and animated blood made it seem more violent, but it's a cartoon! The end of that clip was funny, since Brian (the dog) was perfectly fine after all that Stewie (the English-accented baby) did to him!

"Alright, let's go to the bank."

/me LOLs at the end of the clip

Edit:

Hilarious. Although it drags on a bit.

That's Family Guy. :]

I think TV shows, especially the ones broadcast on public/basic TV stations, are allowed to be taken seriously. EVEN CARTOONS. A lot of times cartoon shows/episodes/movies aren't allowed to be put on TV simply because they're too offensive, crude, or extreme in another way. Sometimes cartoons simply put in certin content to make a statement about something or send a message to their viewers (like kid shows try teaching kids morals, or adult shows sometimes make political/social statements, etc.).

I'm not telling everyone to take every TV show seriously, though. I'm trying to find the clip on YouTube, but there was one episode where at the end Peter explained to the viewers that you can't take advice from TV shows or something similar... It was meant to be an ironic message, though, since he's cartoon himself. :P
