Ok you techies. I know it's been discussed before, but I couldn't find it and I need your knowhow to get around the servers at work. And for you to explain it to me like i'm an 8 year old.

I can get to the isketch page, and shockwave loads no problem and i can plug my name fine. But after a minute it tells me "Connection problems. Check your network settings or try again later".

I have reinstalled browsers, shockwave, cleared cache, dipped keyboard in ammonia, nothing of the regular magic works.

Though I work through a network, I have the admin pw for my work computer, so if any changes are needed i can probably do them.

Thoughts? Possibilities?

I think mr jewels will be able to give an answer, if it can be done. ( he has just popped out )

But if it can be done and we posted it on here could that mean every school kid will be joining isketch ? ( no offense meant, but I'm sure you can see where I'm coming from )

I see where you're coming from, jewels. I'm not sure if children can get past that though, as network settings usually require passwords, etc. And especially in a public institution like a school. They can limit access, etc. I could be wrong though.. I don't know too much about it. If someone knows for sure, correct me if I'm wrong.

If you could convince your network staff to open TCP port 1626, that would do the trick. Using Remote Desktop to play from your home computer at work is also an option, but lag may be an issue..

I've spoken with the system administrator, isketch is not blocked at the school, he said it's just a server thing and he's not sure why it's not working but he's pretty happy about it. He's a friend so he's not going to do anything to help me but also he's not doing anything to make it more difficult. He simply said that as long as he doesn't see more than one computer with isketch traffic on it, he won't care, so i shouldn't tell anybody how i did it. And so i won't, it's to my benefit, playing at lunch would be a mayor perk.

Isketch is not a popular game here anyway, kids seem to be more interested in second life / the sims type games and war games, which they can't install anyway on the student computers, but they get around this by bringing them on their laptops, as the whole place is wireless b/g enabled.

So now sense/net, hypothetically, if port 1626 were open, how would i be able to get in?

If it were open, I think the "Connection problems" message would not appear at login. Even though iSketch is not specifically blocked at your school, the firewall may still be restricting that port for some reason. Maybe your sysadmin friend could open the port, and forward it to your IP only? Nobody else would be able to connect.

And doomed i am sense/net but thanks for the suggestion. Our network admin has said TCP port 1626 is dedicated for another purpose, and he laughed lol. He probably knew i wouldn't be able to so he said he wouldn't help nor stop me, and he kept his word, i ran myself into a wall. Oh well, so's life. I shall continue to play pointless flash games during lunch.
