I have noticed an abundance of threads recently about what defines us from other people. So, continuing along the same lines..... What Scares You!!
I am a timid little clock (believe it or not)!
What Scares Me:
clowns (especially that IT thingy)
lawn mowers (don't laugh - it's genuine)
fish (especially eels)
What scares you?

Ooh, nice thread, TF! (that lawn mower thing is cute, btw :P)
clowns (especially that IT thingy)
I know so many people who are scared of clowns, and mostly because of IT, too. I was scared of that particular clown, but overall I don't mind them.
My scary thingies:
1. Spiders!!
2. Snakes!!
3. Dolls. Especially barbie dolls. :embarrassed: (should I have admitted that? lol)
4. Coming out of a seizure and not having any idea what happened

Nice thread TF.
what scares me...well waiting for my credit card bill, that scares the ♥♥♥♥ out of me.
I'm not sure if this counts as what scares me, but more like a phobia, but it's dogs, I can not go near dogs. As a child my friends dad was a police prison officer, and to cut a long story short, his police guard dog went for me.
This has left me with a phobia of all dogs, wild cherry knows how bad i am, when we went to watch big brother at the studio's i couldn't walk past the guard dogs there and wanted to go home, luckily the security guards could see my fear and escorted me past them . When I have been to wild cherry's house poor cherry has had to keep her dog's away from me. If i see someone walking a dog along the street I have to cross the road or even turn around and walk the other way.

Only two things scare me....
1. Spiders, i run a mile when i see one :embarrassed:
2. Heights, you should see me going up the ladders on the scaffolding, i go very slowly and pretend to be looking at the brickwork/concrete/rest of the site.

Pennywise does now... eek!
1. Public speaking
2. Drowning.
3. Drowning at a public speaking event.
TempusFugit
03-07-2007, 10:35 PM
Ummm... how could you drown at a pubic speaking event
I have thought of another thing that scares me:
Maggots!!! Just the thought of putting my hands into a jar of them really does make me feel sick :S Also - our local council now have alternate week bin collections (a very big bug bear of mine). I am terrified that if I haven't cleaned the bins out properly or some food goes a bit rotten (which it will do in the Summer *cough-what-bloody-summer-cough*) that I will be infested with the funny, one eyed, wriggly things
I could be talking in an aquarium and the glass could break and flood the building.
Now I'm going to go hide under the desk. And whimper quietly to myself.

3. Drowning at a public speaking event.
Ya know what? I was going to put down "presentations" as one of the things that scare me, that's freaky. And it really does. Always has done. I cannot give out presentations. Cannot do any sort of public speaking. I've been forced a few times in the past, but I've gone red in the face, talk too fast, and can generally hear my heartbeating instead of my own voice! It's one of the reasons why I chickened out of going to a formal university, and chose to do my degree at home instead. Sad, eh? :embarrassed:
I'm weird :S
You missed out the fact that my hands shake like mental, but other than that you described me in that situation exactly.
Unless I've had a MAJOR dose of Dutch courage, but then I'm pretty incomprehensible. lol

my fears are
1. I suffer from Emetophobia
2. I hate anything with wings, that fly in you're face
3. Dirty kitchens and bathrooms
Emetophobia? Umm... an irrational fear of time travelling scientists with a penchant for saying 'great scott'? :S

spiders, snakes, sloworms, and daddy long legs
Sick
I'm also scared of cooking for people, even though I do, incase I make them poorly.
My mother-in-law, seriously!

1) things that jump out at me. i'm not very afraid of much unless it takes me surprise. most things don't scare me, they just disgust me.
2) painful ways of dying: suffocating, drowning, burning to death, being crushed to death, being buried alive, etc etc.
3) plastic little Barbie-like girls that wear makeup masks, slutty clothes, and talk, act and think like a skank.

I am clearly scared of being seen to use incorrect grammar... my previous message was too short so, to make up the required number of characters, I decided to use dots... but there was no way on earth I was going to use four dots in an ellipsis so I split them up!

Don't worry about the dolls thing, I can't handle them either...Any time at an old antique shop and those ceramic ones XD, I blame a horror movie I saw when I was little. Also clowns, but not the sight of them, I think that one may be wearing off...

Well there's really nothing much in the old standards of thunder & lightning, creepy crawlies public speaking stuff that does scare me.
I guess my biggest fear is failure and in doing so being a disappointment to my dad who had the greatest work ethic.
Drowning - funny really because I am nationally accredited as a Trainer in Flood Rescue – but probably because I nearly drowned as a kid.
Running out of beer – Kind of self-explanatory really

I am completely hopeless around females. Absolutely petrified. I'm lucky if I can string 3 coherent words together, let alone a full sentence.
Im s -s-s-s-s-scared of s--s-s-s-teiny.
/me is scared of so much.....
1. heights
2. swimming pools
3. rejection
4. earwigs
5. lofts
1. spiders - big time.
2. the sea. Specifically things in the sea... rushing up with speed from the depths to pull me under and devour me. Especially sharks, but other fish too, and giant squid, and whales and basically anything.
3. Weird one - looking out of windows when it's dark outside.
I think the second two are basically the same - a fear of not being able to see into black depth.

It scares me when a bloke comes on really strong.
Y'know, I've always needed to form a friendship first but when a bloke gets into heavy flirting realy early on into the friendship, I freeze and it scares the heeebie geeeebies out of me! Not that I get in that position anymore, I don't need to, but still...
Oh and the dark window thing, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
/me runs to turn the outside light on...
As a child i used to have a lot of irrational fears...
- I used to be afraid of snakes, until i started handling them. A good friend had a small python, sister chlorine, we used to tease her a lot. Now i'm just afraid of them biting me, otherwise i'm quite comfortable with them.
- I used to be afraid of cat's glowing eyes in the dark, until a biologist friend of my mom explained to me why that happened (it's a pretty cool adaptation)
- I used to be afraid of heights, until i fell 5m down from a tree only to sprain my right ankle and walk away (still paying for that one 15 years later)
No reason to be afraid of anything, you have to question yourselves, why am I afraid of this? What could this snake/height/darkness/cat/scorpion/spider/hugeword do to me? When you find the answer "not much really", your fears go away. This may take some time though, I'm still working out this social anxiety that i have.
Of course, you need to have personal limitations and just not start swimming with anacondas just because you're not afraid of them as they might be out looking for a snack and they're neither really friendly nor afraid of you. Do your risk assessment and then try it out.
My fears are pretty simple, well slightly complicated.
A lil clostrophobic, and also of heights within a certain range, not sure the exact figures. Above and below that range Im fine.
Oh and im starting to fear the seaguls around here. Damn things try and dive bomb you if you dont watch them closely.

I as one know, where you are coming from 2.0 that fears cannot really hurt you. For me who has suffered from a phobia for past 16 yrs of her life, it don't seem to be irrational, for me when it happens, i really do feel like im dying. I know the more i fear this blinking thing the more I'm feeding it and letting it take over me completely. But I'm working on that, after 7yrs they have finally decided enough is enough, and got me proper help and i have now started C.B.T ( Cognitive Behavioural Therapy ) i aint saying you are daft 2.0 and that is why i put what C.B.T means in brackets.. its just incase some people don't understand

diesel isn't as flammable as petrol and even then, it's the petrol vapours that go up, not the petrol itself
But then you'd have a load of moths and fireflies around the place... ö

Spot on Facey. You can even chuck a lit match into a drum of diesel and it will just go out - you need to have something with a lower flashpoint added to it - like petrol or kerosene. But neither of them make for good insect repellent:biggrin:
I realised I am afraid of something else - Not Coming Home from a job........
Edit: Yes I have done this before - lit match into diesel - part of General Rescue training to get the noobs to use fire extinguishers.

A close friend of mine is a manager in a fuel station and he's always told me that a lit match into petrol/diesel would never light, just the vapours
