View Full Version : sending saved Studio drawings fails

Hello all,
I'd like some more information about sending studio drawings to another player. Because it seems to fail every time I try it.
Drawing and saving in the Studio works fine, loading en viewing as well.
But when I try the commands /send, /sendfull or /show it starts and after a while I get the failure message.
Is it even at all possible, or is the option broken at the moment?
Is there a way to test this feature, because when I test it with other users they get annoyed after a while because it doesn't work.
Is there a checklist to go through to examine all the correct settings needed?
I hope someone can help me out here :)
Thanks,
tabasco
I don't know if it's changed since I last did it, but it is possible. The usual cause for it failing is a firewall or router not allowing the connection needed to make the actual transfer. Unfortunately I cannot however remember the details of the connection itself to tell you how to resolve the issue. Sorry.

thanks for the quick response,
After some digging through old forum messages here, I found out that it must be port 1627
Although I do not have an active firewall, I will start examining this further.
Any ideas on the testing issue I mentioned?

It's also possible that the "problem" can be on the receiving end. I remember players used to try to send me their drawings and I could not receive them because my own firewall blocked them.

to be honest..i think it's just plain broken, I dont know anyone who has been able to send/receive studio sketches in a very long time (it used to work?)

I haven't been able to send/receive drawings from other people using this method for a long while now. I don't know the ins and outs of how it works, but I do remember something about port 1627 in the general FAQ in the rules.
Still, there's always e-mail, webcam, social networking sites and even photo hosting websites that would be an alternative if the feature is not working properly :)

Well, I have just done an interesting test, static IP's, connection between two pc's with full port access for both IP's on the router, as well as Upnp enabled just to make sure all ports are open. Tried to send a sketch just as a test which was 1.4kb. The test failed. I dont think theres any other firewalls apart from maybe the antivirus that can prevent this connection from being established, and even after my web shield has been disabled the results are still the same.
Im not sure if this can help anyone, but i dont think it is a router/firewall problem, and port forwarding didnt help either. I even did a QOS on my two pc's just to improve network performance between the two, and still no success in sending it.
No packets dropped however!! Router status seems normal!
Connection for sending picked up ports 1302 1307
Connection for receiving picked up ports 49394 and 1307 as well.
These are automatically picked up by my router, i did not force the usage of these ports btw. Not sure if that helps

Well...it's just as well I have no need to send an image to another person, in this way. The language of the procedure had me baffled!
In my day (yup...I is old!)
* static was the stuff you got in your hair from brushing or combing it too vigorously.
* IP was short for, well, you guessed it...I pee!
* port access was more to do with ships in harbours and docks
* firewalls were usually concrete walls between two buildings...for safety!
* antivirus was a medicine we took to prevent illness
* dropping packets was something that happened at the supermarket

I wanted to reply too, but i was lmao @ it lol. Couldn't stop laughing! I think its best to just have stopped it where jenni made it really simple lol. I apologise for the technical terms :p

Heh? Giving thanks deletes the message one is posting? wtf.
Henyways you have my thanks Souly and Pikachu.

That's because the message you're posting is contained entirely in your web browsers memory, and clicking the thank you link reloads the page, so your web browser doesn't know to replace the text.

Well, thank you all for the contributions, some more helpful than others though :)
Nevertheless I had a good laugh...
Can anyone else confirm the option is defective/broken/useless... ???
The reason I stress this again is because there is an element in sending drawings to another person that I like very much. The fact that the drawing is being rendered line by line, and showing how the final picture evolves.... I can keep playing some drawings over and over again, and also am curious to someone else's drawings ...
thanks, Tabasco
ps.
I'm not very aware of current things around iSketch... This forum is unofficial? is there still somebody who maintains the iSketch program? who is 'da god' in iSketch land? Or is it only current users who stretch things as they are...?

Yes, that's a feature I enjoy too, tabasco. Sadly, I think the feature has been non-operational for quite some time, as in maybe 3 years or more? I and my friends have not been able to share pics for a very long time.
Ouch!

Thanks for that useful information Jobe.
I wish I understood it? :embarrassed:
So I should give Firefox a slap around the arse or around the face?
It's interesting to know my IP too, which happens with you.

There are 2 other drawing programmes that I have used where you can see the picture build up stroke by stroke when it is "replayed"
One is the Graffiti app on Facebook, you can send your efforts to your friends on FB and they can see them being drawn so to speak, The drawing tool itself isn't that much worse than the isketch studio tbh.
The other is IScribble, the tools are really good, and anyone who is in the same room as the canvas can see the picture being replayed from beginning to end.

Although we have the proper iSketch logo here, the forum itself is completely unofficial. The guy who maintains iSketch is called Rob and any official business is dealt with by Feedback. We are just people who play iSketch for fun and have a little chatter here :)
Although we have the proper iSketch logo here
The use of the isketch typeface and logo was authorized by the copyright holder many years ago, and we're very thankful for it. Just in case anyone is wondering... :D

I thought so, otherwise Rob wouldn't be too happy :fangs:
Jen tried to send me some of her drawings using the iSketch interface a few times, she just links me to photobucket now :)

Tabasco, as said beforer Rob is the main man keeping it running, but there are around 100 people helping him that keep it running, from Admins to Technical support. The great thing is, you never have to worry about someone not knowing an anwser through feedback.
