First ep of series 3 aired yesterday, does anyone else watch it? It's written so brilliantly... it has a lot of visual jokes (some of them more obvious than others), great characters and it does an amazing job of mocking social trends. If you don't already watch it I recommend it but you would probably only appreciate it's genius if you'd attended further education in like the last 8 years and are British.

I lovedd it. Effy was probably my favourite character of the last two series. So im liking that its all based around her.
That guy with the tattoo reminds me a lot of Chris from the other series, he even talks just like him, think he's greatt. good start!

Hmm... I've never watched Skins... one or two of my friends do though, but I dunno. I would trust you WITH MY LIFE though Peter, so I don't suppose that it can hurt to try it if it comes with such a strong recommendation. ;)

I used to think, oh skins.. >.> pssh. But then I ended up watching all of series 2 and enjoyed watching it lots :) I would have watched the new series, but I've stopped watching television at the moment, but if you think that it's worth watching then I will try... :) Probs watch it online maybe. :P

Yeah, Effy is a good character so it'll be good to see her in a main role. I don't reckon it'll be based around her though because the plot of the last series was pretty evenly divided between the characters. They all had their own stories if you know what I mean and I think that style of writing will be carried through. The tatooed guy reminds me more of Tony as a kinda bad ass but he's like a stupid version of Tony. Whereas, urr, Freddie kinda has Tony's kinda authority and social cleverness but we don't really know much about him yet just that he skates... I dunno about drawing parallels with the guy with the tatoo and Chris, I think Chris had a much more friendly and likeable character but the tatoo guy is more of a general c**k that I doubt will have the same charm as Chris but will be the kinda lovable goon.

There's a character yet to be introduced which is the black kid, I saw him in the closing montage and in the promo images it'll be cool to find out what his deal is.

Haha, fortuantely you can get away with starting on series 3 episode 1, they repeat it some time on C4 and it'll be on the 4 On Demand service. All of the main characters from series 1 & 2 were ditched (although I guess a couple might return in supporting roles) but it basically means you can pick up from series three without worrying about what you've missed..

Noooo! i wanted to find out what happened in New York with Sid and Cassy >_> lol. I loved the characters last seriesssss, i wanted to watch it last night but fell asleep too early. I'll watch the repeat and sure i will get hooked again. (:

It's not so much a revamp of the series but just different main characters & actors. It's because the series is meant to be oriented around teenagers/teenage life so it would be impossible to keep the main characters from the last series as they were entering adulthood, going to uni, moving away etc.

As for the writers I'm not sure... according to this article (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/3662644/The-naked-truth-about-being-young.html) they have quite a strange writing process. I would imagine the format and style of the show will remain the same because of the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' rule - which is more like a law when it comes to television production.

I completely disagree about the tattooed guy being more like tony though! can barely see the resemblence...
Freddie having the authority and social status of Tony is pretty much all i was basing the comparison on, but i still think its pretty acurate! I guess we'll have to watch and seee.
I really like the Emily character aswel, think she'll have a good part to play :)

I don't like Skins, I think it's a dead awful show. It's just sex, drugs, alcohol, verbal and physical abuse, rudeness and it's such a bad idea for young people. Kids as young as about 10-12 years are watching this show and it disgusts me. Yeah it may be issues many teenagers are faced with but to me it's just encouraging underage sex, underage smoking, drug and alcohol abuse as well as turning young people into bigger arseholes; yay, just what the world needs(!) :rolleyes:

I mean seriously, what real school has arson, sex happening on the grounds and that much stupidity on a daily basis? This show may as well be porn for kids.

So kudos to channel 4, they're doing an excellent job at screwing up kids even more! Next they'll be doing documentaries on just how screwed up kids are and the causes for it.... er, your programmes, perhaps??!
In a way, channel 4 are giving young British kids a bad name. I reckon Americans/Europeans/whoever else who watches this will think this is just how messed up British teenagers are.

Lol AJ, Skins is aired well after the 9 o' clock watershed if parents are allowing 10-12 year olds to be up that late and watching telly then it's their own fault.

You're right, real schools don't have sex and arson on a daily basis but 1. it's not a real school, 2. only a small amount of the last two series was shot in-school so doesn't seem like you've seen enough of the show to be criticising it's realism. Even if it were true by your standards half of the sitcoms/cartoons/soaps/dramas would have to be off television by your standards for not being realistic enough.

TV & video games - the most classic scape goats for the downfall of youth. As for giving British kids a bad name it's not like other countries aren't clever enough to recognise drama when they see it, it's a fictional show that focus on a small group of youths, it's not a representation of every teenager in Britain. Anyway, the truth is a lot of teenagers in Britain are messed up, you only have to wonder around the wrong parts of London/Bristol/Nottingham/Leeds/Halifax/any large town/city at night on the weekend to find that out but then a lot of adults are just as bad. It's not like someone turns 20 and decides to rid themselves of their vices.

Anyway you do seem to have missed the point because if you look past the drugs, the rudeness and the sex what you're left with is a brilliantly written & directed show with a lot of good jokes and clever story arcs.

Orly? And the moral of any story in this show is....?! In all seriousness, taking away all of what you mentioned, you're left with a soap like Hollyoaks cos it's for teens/young people. S'not that brilliant imho :/

Fyi, as for saying I've probably not seen enough of the show, I've seen the whole of the first two series as it was recommended to me and was a discussion used in some work I did. Then I happened to watch the first ep of this series after you posted about it here... gosh darn it hasn't changed lol.

Personally, I don't think I'm over opinionated over this, I just think it gives British youngsters a bad name and it does influence teenagers to 'experience' more. I have a 14 year old nephew who attends a pretty run down all boys school, he doesn't watch Skins or other shows like Hollyoaks (another show which may as well be porn at times) but the influence he gets from school is bad enough and kids his age seem to think smoking and drugs are oh so freaking cool man!

Who are the so called cool kids in Skins? Oh yes, the ones having sex, drinking booze on school grounds and doing drugs, not to mention treating teachers like complete and utter crap. Ok, a few teachers deserve it, I'll admit but the majority don't and even they're affected by this crap which teens are brainwashed with. Ah well, hope nobody's offended :)

Edit: Oooh, I just remembered that girl... Cassy? Her storyline was an interesting one. Anorexia etc. Think that's the only bit I can say was good :/

Lol, I know arson happens in school, for two years of my secondary education I spent about half my classes in elliot huts because some c**kend burn the building down (although we did get a nice new building out of it). It didn't happen on a daily basis though and if you're going to retort with "yes it does" then you're just disproving your own point.

I'd argue it's a name that fits. Most of Europe hate us anyway for being a mini-USA and most of USA hate us for being in Europe. All countries have their troubled youths anyway. There's gang culture in France, USA, Spain, teenagers train-surfing in Germany, Belgium etc. youth is the same around the world and anyone that judges an entire demographic by a TV program is stupid anyway. Your nephew is gonna grow up one day and if he hasn't already see films like Scarface, True Romance, Pulp Fiction which make Skins look like the Tellytubies. If he's already influenced enough by school that's hardly a reason to condemn television program. By that logic we'd have to stop shows like Dexter because it's gonna breed a generation of serial killers. It's also the "cool kids" that smoke in real life, when they're young anyway, so if someones not smoking due to social influence I doubt they're gonna start due to a television program.
Again with the 'cool kids' (your useage of the word kids is also disturbing as they're only 3-4 years younger than you). If it's perceived as 'cool' then that's not the writer's fault it's societys fault and the fault of the people responsible for educating the viewer. Tony who was one of the 'cool' kids from the previous series also had the higest grades and was very intelligent.
If student aren't gonna abuse teachers IRL they're not gonna do it because of TV. It helps define the boundries and personality of the characters in the show it's not trynna turn everyone into anarchists.

I'm 34 and have been in education 'recently' lol, but I don't think that has anything to do with the fact that Skins is brilliant. It's just outstandingly honest with no sugar-coating and so is naturally funny. Much like life much of the time... only you wouldn't put your embarrassing mistakes on telly... we get to watch those of the cast. :razz:

Lol, you found that funny? Easily amused Peter? :p Thinking back to it, I can see the humour in it but it's not LOL funny so maybe that's why I don't notice the humour so much. I'll agree, there have been some funny parts but the first two series were ages ago so I can't remember much from them :/

Aaah, agreed a part of me just finds it a bit sad that this is a label kids here are kinda stuck with. And it's not just through TV that makes me think this. Even stuff like going on iSketch and playing a game, you'd find someone from another country who starts a fight with someone cos of where they come from and then steotypes away, like all kids are the same or something. That said, some things from Skins have been funny.. (bugger it! You're making me change my mind about it's humour content)

Skipping all the rest cos there's a lot to say about it, ya know, being someone who's been in higher education within the last eight years :smile: but it's not bad stuff I have to say, I agree with it to some point and it raises some very interesting and real issues. Might make a good education related debate in future.

Still? I thought she's gone and that's the end of her bit now? I'll admit to liking this storyline a lot because it helped me understand one or two people I know/knew of with issues like hers. The way the writters of Skins dealt with this was good and it was very educational imo. I think dealing with the other issues in that way would be helpful, more of that and I reckon the show could be better and more appreciated.
