Helloo all,
Sorry about the horrendous amounts of spam. I'm amazed and proud that the mods have done such a great job keeping up with it.
Those of you who have been here long enough will no that I'm quite an awful admin when it comes to almost everything *sadface*. Thankfully 2.0 e-mailed me about the spam and now I know I'm going to try and install a plug-in recommended by Jobe to fight it.
Let's hope it works.

Okay, so I've installed this mod which may help. Hell knows how they are getting past the captcha. This mod takes a different approach and checks the registration usernames/I.P. addresses against a blacklist.
We'll see how it goes... bed time for me now I'm afraid!

Okay, it's been reported (http://www.allspammedup.com/2010/01/google-recaptcha-cracked/) that the captcha mechanism has been cracked very recently and that botnets are targeting forums. I'm trying to find a mod that will allow me to modify the registration form. There used to be a custom question but it's not working anymore for some reason :/
Are you trying to enable vBulletin's question+answer registration method? or using a third party plug-in to do the same?
The reason I ask is sadly you cannot have both captcha and Q&A (vBulletin's own) at the same time, the only way to have both is if the Q&A is provided by a third party plug-in. However I am currently unaware without looking for one of the existence of such a third party plug-in that provides Q&Q for registration.
I will say though if you enable Q&A you will need at least 20, ideally a lot more, questions to make a dent at foiling determined spammers.
Also the good news is spam registrations have dropped considerably since you installed the mod.

I'd forgotten vBulletin had integrated the anti-spam question thing, it used to require a mod (which I still have installed) and it was that mod which isn't working.
I've enabled the vBulletin Q&A now but some ideas for questions would be most welcome as I've only done 3 so far, they should be simple English if possible due to the non-English speakers that join here.
