My friend and I wanted to start a private room the other night so the two of us could play, and although we started the room successfully and got all the settings as we wanted them, we couldn't get the game to actually start. We feel dumb. What are we missing?

What were the settings you were using? Wordlist?
If there were only 2 of you in the room then you couldn't start a game with 2 artists.
Also, if both of you were "away" then it wouldn't let you start.

Oh. Sounds like the only-two-in-a-room thing was the problem. What's the minimum number?

Having two in the room is fine, I just meant that if the settings you had chosen included having two people drawing then it wouldn't start. With one artist at a time, two people is fine.

Hello pastinaca and welcome to the forum :)
Just like NoHints has mentioned above, you need to have at least 2 people in the room who are both not away to start a game successfully, unless you have selected more than 1 artist. If this is the case, you need to have one more person than the number of artists.
If you need to change anything about your room after you have created it, simply type /modify and you will be taken to the same screen that you used to create your room. The only thing you cannot change is the room's name itself.
Hope this helps :)

Sometimes iSketch just glitches at the start of new games in user created rooms and typing "/reset" in usually helps.
