~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
World renowned tenor Luciano Pavarotti has died at his home in the northern Italian city of Modena.
The singer, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, was 71.
His charismatic performances - particularly alongside fellow tenors Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras - helped bring a new audience to opera.
Pavarotti had cancer surgery in July 2006 in New York, five months after his last performance. He had not made any public appearances since then.
He underwent five bouts of chemotherapy in the past year, and was admitted to hospital with a fever on 8 August. He was released two weeks later following diagnostic tests.
Fellow tenor Domingo said he had "always admired the God-given glory" of Pavarotti's voice.
Manager Terri Robson said in a statement that the tenor died at 0500 local time (0400 BST) on Thursday.
"The Maestro fought a long, tough battle against the pancreatic cancer which eventually took his life," she said.
"In fitting with the approach that characterised his life and work, he remained positive until finally succumbing to the last stages of his illness."
The funeral will be held at Modena Cathedral on Saturday, the city's mayor Giorgio Pighi told Sky TG24 television, according to the AFP news agency.
One of the tenor's doctors, Antonio Frassoldati, told Sky TG24 the singer had been "always totally conscious of the situation, he always sought to fight the disease... and he was very calm".
Pavarotti enjoyed 40 years on the world stage and became one of the world's biggest-selling artists.
His music reached far beyond the usual opera audience, particularly his signature tune Nessun Dorma, from Puccini's Turandot, which became associated with the 1990 football World Cup.
His performances with Domingo and Jose Carerras at this time - in the Three Tenors concerts - were seen around the world.
"We've reached 1.5 billion people with opera," Pavarotti told critics of the shows.
"If you want to use the word commercial, or something more derogatory, we don't care. Use whatever you want."
In a statement from Los Angeles, Domingo said he had fond memories of the Three Tenors shows.
"We had trouble remembering we were giving a concert before a paying audience, because we had so much fun between ourselves," he said.
Nessun Dorma was part of Pavarotti's final performance, at the opening of the Winter Olympics in Turin in February 2006.
Pavarotti was married to his first wife Adua, with whom he had three daughters, for 35 years until they split in 1996.
He then got together with his secretary Nicoletta Mantovani, who was 26 years old at the time. In 2003, they had been due to have twins, but only one survived, a daughter called Alice.
The couple married in a lavish, star-studded ceremony later that year.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pavarotti passed away. One of the greatest opera singers of our time has gone, and whether or not you like opera you must admit this guy gave it some character. RIP!
RIP Rhys Jones who is buried today.
Sleep well little man
Some very sad news (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6988343.stm)
The loss of a unique and very special woman :sad:
Oh gosh, that's a shocker. I remember feeling very inspired by her when I was younger. She was the first woman I was aware of who had a successful business. It didn't exactly inspire me to start up a business but I do remember feeling proud of my gender.
I'll merge this thread with the existing condolences one.
Apologies for not posting in the right place last night. I did look but somehow missed this thread :embarrassed: Thanks for merging it Vik

To Jane Tomlinson, now she WAS an inspirational woman.. who fought with every ounce of energy that she had left in her. She could actually put some people to shame in what she achieved.. She left behind a wonderful family, but also left them with treasured memories that she for one was not going to give up without a fight. Sleep peacefully hun, you work on earth is done

To Cherry my dearest friend/new sister/ and total confident
Just reading your post has brought tears to me eyes, but not tears of sadness but tears of pure joy to know that I got soooooooooo many friends on here, who have always offered there support to me in so many ways. I was totally touched by your post. To know that I can call on any of you guys is just ( lost for words for a change ) no words can really describe what I really want to say. Well Robert got all his tubes put in today, and is ready to start Chemo for his Lukemia. If after his chemo sessions and nothing has worked, they will be calling his family in for bone marrow and fingers crossed they get a match, and this poor wee mite survives. At the moment where I live is just full of so much sadness. Today Robert said, that he was woken up by his wee mate Noko ( Noel ) who was the lad that lost his fight for life in that car crash. So hopefully he is gonna be his wee guardian angel and look after him.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, my sister Courtney, and all her other wee chums as they are all really close, i really don't know how these kids can take much more of the heartache.
Hugs to all you guys, and thanks for everything

No thanks needed sis your loved and respected by us all, you are a sunny kind of women always kind and happy with us all.
It pains me that we have rubbish nasty people on this planet who lead uneventfull normal lives with no heartache at all, yet you and yours get all the ♥♥♥♥e.
Like i told you last night im praying for wee robert every night now, it takes no time at all and who knows his guardian angel and my prayers may make a huge difference.
Love to you kells i love you so much xxx

Just thought, that I would up-date you on Roberts condition. He has started his chemo. He was rather on the down side but thats to be expected, he is a young lad with his whole life in front of him. All his hair is falling out now, so he is just gonna shave it off. He might be allowed out this weekend to play a round of golf with his wee mates ( if he is strong enough ) the amount of kids his age that are going down, constantly to the hospital to stay with him is amazing, some stay over night. Poor mite is way to frightened to be left on his own. Some of his so called friends have yet to go see him ( its at times like this, you see who you're real friends are )
/me cheers Robert on to keep fighting hun, you can do it

The sad thing is many of these fires were deliberately lit..
As a result whole towns have been labelled as crime scenes and the arsonists responsible as mass murderers
It's such an awful tragedy and some towns are still under threat :sad: and some areas still not searched for bodies.. some are saying now that the death toll could even go over 300 :eek:
My love, prayers and thoughts to all those affected.

Yes, sadly she has passed away. I knew there was a lot of speculation with unconfirmed reports that she was brain dead etc., but then I read that Liam Neeson's agent had confirmed it and then double-checked with a few other major news sites to make sure it wasn't speculation again. :sad:

R.I.P DEAR SWEET JADE GOODY.
What a real shame, for such a lovely young lady to go with cancer at 27yrs of age.
She will be missed by her sons and her family and her friends, maybe some of the public despised her but i thought she was blooming great.:razz:
She made something of her life which started out not so good, but she turned it in to something special.
Cause she was a special person maybe she had a cockney accent maybe she was classed as common,but she had more grit and determination than most so called decent folk out there.
A TRUE LADY WHO I THINK WAS FANTASTIC.
Hense the jade thread i made weeks ago, which nobody has posted on, maybe its been overlooked maybe its the general conclusion thats shes disliked who knows.
Either way goodbye to a beautifal lady, and god was she a pretty girl.:cry: even when she went bald.:cry:

Will pass on all your wishes to cunny tomorrow, today has been mighty tough for her as you can imagine.
She is in good hands, a few of us who help her out are flying back in a few days time.
We do have a collection going if anyone would be interested in giving anything to send a wreath, pm me if you would like to do so.
Right just to add to this im really shocked by the lack of response to this, cunnyfunt has been a rock on this forum and to a lot of people on it, and in her time of need many people have ignored her plight.
Those who posted cunny thanks you so much for your support, i myself say to you people who took the time to post that it shows what people have the heart and soul to care for others and thank you for careing for cunny.
Im not trying to be mean about this people have the right to post or not to thats rigjt of course, im just shocked at the lack of it thats all.
Anyway love to everyone from cunny and her family and her close friends, thinking of them tomorrow at the funeral xxxxx god bless you wee violet.

Death is inevitable for all of us, Ouch. It doesn't diminish the value of a life, or the significance of it's loss.
My absolute best to all those that lost loved ones in Norway. May their pain not linger on for too long, and their recovery be appropriately swift, and may they all find a way to safely, and productively move on - especially for those with more loved ones to still attend and see to.
As for Amy Winehouse, I also wasn't much of a fan, but things like that don't really matter. Celebrity sucks at any rate, RIP miss.
