Great thread
"How do you play?"
- "Guess the pictures by typing, make sure what you type appears in the game box"
"Like this?" (typing in the chat box)
- "No, the top one, the "Game" box."
"I don't get it"
Eventually they get the hint. But:
"How do you hug?"
- type /hug
"how do you kiss?"
- type /kiss
"how do you whistle?"
- READ THE ♥♥♥♥ING INSTRUCTIONS AND SHUT UP.
copy and paste the instructions link if they don't understand how to freakin click on the INSTRUCTIONS box below the isketch window. Helping people on the game is fun sometimes, the smart ones anyway, but sometimes they just get on my nerves, and i move to to 2wbp
ah that felt goooood.

There are also the ones who PM you their answers and even after you've told them they're PMing you and need to type in the other box - they take no notice and continue to do so
Sorry to be the whining old bat here but I really don't like referring to the players you are dicussing as n00bs. I know you stated at the start that you weren't talking about newbies but the association is still there and very offputting for the many new players we get.
/me makes the suggestion that the title of this thread be changed to "Types of PITAs" (admin slang for Pain In The Arse)
Following BBs suggestion, the thread name's been changed to types of PITA, and no, we're not talking flatbreads. We were all n00bs once, and not all newbies are annoying, some of them are just curious. It's a bit more suitable i think. Comments?
/me thanks 2.0 for the change

I doubt BM meant it as personal but it is a bit much when there's 9 users online and only 1 showing.
If a member chooses not to show as online, that's their decision. I like to be nosy too and see who is kicking around on here, but it's a personal choice for everyone and no-one is causing harm by it. The option is there for people to use after all.

I often bring up the forum and look through the threads without logging on, and only actually log on when I want to add a post or play in the arcade! Not really sure why anybody would want to hide themselves once they've logged on though!
We all know that these walls have ears and eyes!!
Not really sure why anybody would want to hide themselves once they've logged on though!
It's a matter of privacy and not necessarily wanting people to watch your every move. I know that may well sound paranoid but there are times when all of us don't feel all that social but don't want to offend anyone.

Are they relatives of the ones that go like this? -
-How do you do the thing where it goes like *PITA does something?
-type "/me"

Also, the ones with the "letters are fine if it's not the actual word" idea, or the "numbers are the same as letters" idea:mad:
MsNerdinator
09-05-2007, 03:21 PM
The PITAs that write z's and then ask why they got skipped. When you say that letters aren't allowed, they reply with, "But it was z's". Yes... z = letter. O_O They don't understand it, and you find yourself repeating it 3 times, sometimes. lol.
The PITA's that blame YOU for an admin booting someone out the room. Hmm? I did.. wha? "It's all your fault that the admin booted. You're such a trouble maker" Heh. Yes, yes it's my fault. I told the person to draw a penis! Or write! ;P

I knew me commenting further would be taken the wrong way! Me personally, I've never done it and never would but you all have your reasons. No-one's explained to me otherwise as to why they do it but this is only a forum and I can't se the damage done by people seeing if you're viewing a few threads.
But on the other hand, as I said, you all have your reasons. I'm just saying that I personally, as an individual, don't understand why.
It's important that you realise I'm not saying it's the wrong thing to do.
Can't say I've ever changed my name on iSketch either...

/me gets his un-invisibilitizing goggles.
Yup, tons of people go on invisible mode (on and off), i do it myself sometimes even tho i'm a mod. it's handy if you don't want your family finding out when you're on the forum and such. I mean, people can tell when you're online by simply looking at your posting times, so it's pretty futile if you post. But lurking without posting, i.e. just to read messages, can be done with or without invisibility, i don't see what the big deal is.

iSketch wouldn't be iSketch without the PITAs :P
I agree. Some of the time, I laugh AT them, even though it can get annoying. I guess it's just easy to remember that you're there to have fun. Like how this one person who STILL comes into my room every now and then, slaps me 3 times and leaves, lol. This has been happening for well over 4 months now. It's annoying, sure... but it also amuses me too.
And that is another form of a PITA. The ones that slap you 3 times in a row without even breathing in between. Annoying, but amusing if you play the opposite game to them  /hi /flirt /hug hehe. It's so funny seeing their "personalities" change when you kill 'em with love.

Definately Nerdy, Wow I go to school and BAM replies.. anyway I call people that are general asshats (<3:)<--- visual aid) n00bs, newbies are just people that have joined, to me thats the difference, so sorry if I offended people :). Looking at PITA just makes me hungry, I like mine with cheese.
:D
hmmmm... annoyance smothered in cheese... there's a phylosophical mind screw.
i think i'd have mine covered with gyro meat, but i'm afraid that instead of making annoyance delicious, gyro might become annoying...
I think we do have to remember that a lot of the PITA's are either people with a slow brain or kids, and annoying as they are the "kid PITA's" are just doing what kids do! You have to love em really. Mostly if you stand back and look they are quite funny in an endearing sort of way.
I love it when a 20 year old starts flirting with you for a few days. I must be handsome in text. :/
Playing along with it is fun too (she turned out to be a pretty nice person when she finally stopped haha)
Playing along with the annoying people is fun too. Acting like it's a really big deal that they just broke a rule and having endless arguments about it (which usually end up in "Get a life! Jeez! It's only a game" from their side, while I think I should be the one saying that to the ones writing the word and drawing the penises).
I wonder why I haven't ended up getting kicked by a PITA-collective yet.
(and I'm glad that I am no longer mistaken for a girl named Diane now that I go by 'Nay' -haha)

As for the PITA collective, they have krews consisting of them, their brother and their pet frog.

PITAs who think there is a two-way rule for them. For example, they draw porn in regular rooms because they have some friends around them, and if you vote to skip you'll get killed for it, lol. World War 3 breaks out. Yet, if it is a player that they don't know who draws porn they will quite happily skip them for the same thing, and boot, of course. It just seems hypocritical. And this comment isn't directed at anyone in particular. I've just seen it a lot, and I'm sure most regulars have.
Oh, and how about the PITAs that swear excessively at you for taking the game too seriously when you skip them? lol "Um... you're swearing. I'm calm. I think YOU'RE taking this too seriously, mate"

Haha - that's funny too, especially when you're in a room with people who have their actual ages up in their profiles. I remember Steiny getting asked ASL by someone and he just said "It's all up in my profile for everyone to see, Dingbat" or something like that. (love that word: DINGBAT)
I don't like the PM *asl?*, and I usually put something in the open chat like "big_knob please don't ask my ASL". Usually get a few others in the room that say "OMG you too?" or "he PMed me too" Very funny. But then big_knob PM's me saying "you don't like me?" and ":(". Of course I don't like you DINGBAT!

As much as I enjoy seeing the old friends on isketch, it's fun to have a PITA in the room too. Sometimes they are really sweet, and I'm very happy to show them how to whisper, clap, etc. Other times they will argue and get defensive, and stick around fighting forever, they're the ones who make me laugh. I remember when I was a newbie, I played for several months before I even got up the guts to ask a question. I asked nicely, and got friendly help, so I try to do the same. I agree and i often go in on a Saturday morning to deliberately play with the Newbies. Some of them are incredibly amusing. I found isk via my son who played it for a little while from Addicting games, but we never realised their was communities and friends etc. Like I said before often some of the PITA's are kids or people with slower brains than us so they deserve a break.

KKK, Nigarz hater, need i go on?
they should not be able to log on with these names!
Under the rules can we kick for rudeness towards players?
Those names are disgusting, I have seen them too.
If you want to take action against them, I would get the user's IP address and screenshot it, along with any other racial hatred they spout, and send it to Feedback. EDIT: Of course, this is only what I would do. It's not official advice on the right way to deal with it, the policies to which the admins adhere may not deal with this kind of issue.
I think people would kick them from a room for being offensive to another player for having names such as that. If you are hesitant about it because you are not sure of your rights in the matter, you probably wont have to wait long for a fool like that to break other rules anyhow.

the subject of being able to vote for a username is very interesting. Aparently we can't vote because of someone's username but we can boot for their rudeness to others using the option. I think there should be something in force to allow such bootings because of a name.
Vik's suggestion of emailing screenshots is good though. Feedback can look into it then.

I've asked admins about this previously. I think one said we can boot if a name is highly offensive to us, but rather they'd advise that we didn't (due to retaliation votes about user names, etc). And a few other admins that I spoke to have said it's totally okay. I've done it a few times.. where I vote to boot someone out with a racist name and an admin comes in asking why. I'll state, "I was offended by it. I don't tolerate racism". And they've not told me off for that.
Personally.. I'd wish to see a filter being put in place to stop people using certain words in their user name when they log on. The racist/swearing/cursing words. I know some words aren't universally offensive, but it might be helpful for the common ones...
You are right that you are permitted to vote for offensive user names but I would always advise players to wait until the person using the name actually breaks the rules (as they invariably do) and thereby allows an admin to take action against them.

If this applies to names... why not quotes? I've seen some really offensive ones containing racism and suchlike. Are they governed by the rules on isketch about offensive behaviour?

That's a good point. I've voted out people for offensive quotes a few times.. but they've been extreme ones. Really, really bad quotes.. :| An admin told me it was okay to boot when I gave them the quote, as it was offensive to players in the room. It's cool when the player at hand asks why they're being booted out, because it gives others the opportunity too explain to them that iSketch doesn't tolerate racism.
Sometimes they don't break the rules.. but they have the offensive names/quotes. :/

Ok so we all have gripes about it - could it be that the Admins are restricted by rules that were written before there were so many No.Obs??
If offensive names and offensive quotes aren't currently against the rules, then why not change the rules?
If you would like to request that the rules be changed so that offensive user names are not allowed, or so that people putting offensive quotes or pictures in their profiles are also in violation of the rules - then e-mail feedback. (info@isketch.net)

I remember being in a room once with an admin and someone asking if they could boot because of the name and the admin said no. I'm confused.
I suppose the problem, like so often, is where to draw the line. What is offensive to one person is funny or acceptble to another. Whereas the 'n' word when used in an offensive way is intolerable, it can also be used in an, I don't know - ironic way? Affectionate way? By black people and then takes on a much tamer connotation. (lol shut-up Vik, trying to pretend you know what you're on about). Oh, EDIT! Yes, I wanted to say, there are a lot of hateful, hateful words which would be a very simple clear cut matter to ban, but there are a lot of grey areas.
I see tons of names that I don't like (I'm aware I am a bit sensitive and make allowances for most of these) and that I find nasty, such as names containing the lady dog word (if I say it, it'll just get hearted out) or words pertaining to various anatomical parts. Some of these are used by regulars, I can think of 2 or 3 with names meant to be funny, but which to some people may be offensive. Would they suddenly be unable to use them?
Where would the line be drawn? Would it be up to each individual admin to decide, leading to inconsistent admining? Would there be rigid rules, possibly leading to enforcement for enforcement's sake? I can see why there is no rule on this right now, it would be a nightmare of interpretation and enforcement.

Exactly Vik!
You as players are allowed to vote offensive usernames but I'm not sure about voting for anything else in the profile. A username is always there, you can't avoid seeing it but the rest of the profile requires action by you in order to see it. This you can avoid.
Admins cannot take action on usernames so it's up to the room. As Vik has said, where would we draw the line? Most offensive names are chosen in an attempt to attract attention and/or make trouble however I have seen players with the F word, various forms of poo, and sexually explicit usernames playing just fine and not causing trouble. Personally the racist names are the most offensive to me and those types usually do end up behaving in a manner that leads to being removed from the game by an admin. I've seen many players complain because their child is looking over their shoulder as they play and they don't want them to see this stuff. Please keep in mind that this is the internet and iSketch is a public game. It's a parents responsibilty to shield their children from anything offensive. I would suggest making a user created room and playing with friends if you would like to let your child watch. An admin cannot stop a porn draw from being seen until it's drawn so your child would see it also.
1) Instant Messenger cheats
2) Racists
All the others make me smile. Yeah even the porn drawers, (you have to imagine that it's probably a 13 year kid with brand new hormones).

Thank you Sierra!
That is crystal clear and the answer to my question.
i was only asking about the racial names, used by, pittas or noobs.
As long as i am not in the wrong should i vote on the name,
btw, i always ask them to change it first, and tell them why it offends me.
I would like to add a cautionary tale on this topic.
I remember a good player several years ago who decided to vote on every username and quote she found offensive. She was very shocked to find herself getting voted out of rooms by players returning her initial vote. She fully expected admins to step in and save her from what she perceived as vote abuse but was shocked when the admins had to advise her that the original players were within their rights to return her votes on them as they had not broken any rules.
As people have already pointed offensive names and quotes are relative to your individual tolerance, culture , nationality , religion etc etc. Not everyone finds the same thing offensive so it does become extremely difficult to draw that line.
As I said previously I would always advise players to wait until someone breaks the rules before voting.
If you want those rules to change you all know how to mail feedback (info@isketch.net)

I dont want to appear rude or insensitive to anyones feelings about abuse, BUT.
This is afterall an internet game that runs all over the world.
Your going to come across foolish names idiotic Quotes, and to be honest if your easily offended, then i would say that the internet isnt the place for you.
Nobody can control the masses of people that use the net, you do use it at ure own risk at seeing abuse and things that may upset you.
That im afraid is life, you can walk down the road and be offended by something every single day what will you do about it??, never go out again, or should we have vote abuse buttons on the road side for you to press when something upsets you lol.
Like the ones at pedestrian crossings lmao.
People are people, life is life get on with your life, and use the net as you like, but please dont vote off a name cause it offends you or upsets you, that to me is silly and controlling.

I sort of agree with WildCherry. Perhaps you could vote to kick someone if you are genuinely offended by the name. But come on, as nasty as a name can be, have you really ever felt offended by it??? Were your feelings hurt? Probably not.
If someones going to be drawing in offensive ways then fair enough, but I fail to see how people can find certain names offensive but don't need to shield their eyes from the chat box in reg rooms half the time.
People have told me my name is "mean" etc, would they have the right to boot me?
Personally, I use iSketch as a game, which is what it is. People shouldn't be removed from it unless they are interfering with the game in some way. If someone is just drawing offensive racist pics ar their turn then that would annoy me; but probably no more than someone drawing random unrelated things for their whole draw: somebody doing either of these should be kicked, somebody with an "offensive" name should not. If they are shouting abuse at people use the ignore feature - it's what it's there for!!!!

So we cannot expect support when we vote users named 'N-ggers suck' out of a room, because there are racists who are not offended by this (and in fact support this claim)?
Or are you talking more about err.. let's say a name like 'Antichrist'* that could offend mainly Christians, but is not a name that is disrespectful to an unchangeable characteristic of a person (like skin colour, gender, etcetera)?
Because I agree that little can (or should) be done against the second, but I think a kick and warning is in place in the first one.
And to Cherry: maybe not a button, but in real life you can deal with these figures yourself. Via the internet you're a bit more powerless, unless you're an admin. But I like the image of seeing a person flying off the street when 3 people press that button :D

I'm not trying to speak for BB or any other admin here. As of right now there is no rule or censorship on usernames. Therefore admins cannot take action on usernames. We've told you that you have the right to vote. I agree that it's best to wait for said player to violate the rules as BB has stated. Once the player violates the rules then the admins can step in.
I can see the point of racist names vs other potentially offensive names but the difference of tolerance still applies. It's true that race is not a choice and it would seem that using the N word in a username would be universally offensive but I can't tell you how many times players with such names and/or using that word in chat have turned around and argued that "I am black and therefore it's not offensive to use the word". This is just an example of difference in tolerance.
Personally I would prefer some kind of limit on what is an acceptable username for iSketch but I think it would have to be an all or nothing type of rule and that could potentially affect some of the usernames some of you are using at the present. Right now I would really like to be able to kick a player for using a name such as kill_n*****s or gas_J*ws but I cannot do that whereas if they type it into the game or chat window or draw it on the canvas, I can do something. If your name includes any sexual innuendo or even a play on words, this non-existent rule would apply to you too. It would not be fair and iSketch would be censoring just a select group if only racist names were not allowed. Many different people are offended by many different things. Best advice is to let the dweebs violate the rules, vote if you are truly offended but try not to be over zealous on voting usernames or profile quotes.

What was the name of this thread again? Oh yeah, Types of PITA! (no, not flatbreads) (http://www.isketchforum.net/types-pita-no-p92463.html#post92463)
Another type of PITA is the one who doesn't take the time to read the instructions for the specialty rooms like Tandem and Big Picture, many come in the room with the assumption that it's the same as standard rooms like English Easy UK:
Tandem:
Two artists draw a phrase simultaneously and cooperatively. The ways this can be achieved are:
1. Using the sequence the artists' names are displayed on the game window, artist 1 draws the first word on the left side of the board and artist 2 takes the other word on the right side.

As the room was UC, I feel it was OK as we have already said that anyone with "I hate ....." as a name probably won't be much fun to play with. The name (which was actually "iHATEscotts" - double t? I think not) was not remotely offensive and in a public room I wouldn't even have considered booting a person with that name.

That happened to me quite recently. It was Turkish players too that ganged up on me. An admin dealt with them and said it happens a lot with a gang of Turkish players. What was amusing was that when the admin came into the room, they tried to boot out the admin, heh. I'm sure they later regretted that, when they found themselves off the game.
I don't think their reasons for booting is racism.. I think they perhaps just get a huge laugh out of vote abusing like that. But then I wasn't there in your situation to see what they said. I'm just saying that I was in a similar situation to you too (and so was someone else I know) and they weren't racist to me, just really childish. I'm very lucky that an admin came into the room after I got booted out. Your frustration, I can definitely understand. I was annoyed myself when that happned.

Yeah they were banging on in Turkish and spamming the boxes. One of them PM'd me in English after their idiot friend voted to boot me after I said "OI! Why the vote?" He/She/It used a few choice words (and I shall refrain from using them here) that were clearly targeted at my white, anglo-celtic, non-Turkish speaking self, and yes definitely racist. So yeah it was racism (like Nerdy says there wasn't anyone else to see what they had said and even if they were it was too late as I couldn't screen cap cos I was out on my arse) against what they thought was a UK player (d'uh read my profile muppets).
I am going to talk my very good friend who is an Ethnic Community Liaison Officer and happens to be Turkish so I can get a few choice phrases from her. That way I will maybe have an idea what they are saying, when it's not in Engilsh. I might have to enlist our fellow Turkish speaking moderator JiGsaW (http://www.isketchforum.net/member.php?u=1416) to teach me how to say "Hey you mupppet. Don't abuse your vote or they can ban you - I have your IP and/or screen shots. I am reporting you to feedback." And "Hey we don't tolerate bullying in iSketch - please don't do that." And maybe something childish like "I know you are but what am I?" just for the hell of it.

Sorry for assuming that they might not have been racist, btw. I'm really sorry that they were racist towards you. Of course, any sort of gang vote abuse is annoying, but adding racism to it really does send a cold shiver down your spine. You should pass those names on to the people with power (if you haven't already), as vote abusers in gangs like this go around often...

Sadly there is a small but very bad group of Turkish players intent on causing nothing but problems for other players. The admin team are doing their best to deal with the situation.
Ok I hope ive chosen the right thread and one of my topics has been discussed before but for the benefit of a few newbies on here ...Question 1
I was just in a room where a player called "penis" was voted out. He did not break any rules tbh he never even spoke just played.I would call this vote abuse and would just like some feedback from both players and admin if possible on your opinion for some people in here to read
Question 2 and this ones a bit harder to explain/ask.Last night I was playing under another name and an I was pmed by an "admin" asking me to change my quote.I must admit it was a bit nawty ..I had just had enough of the personal attacks I and quite a few players had been dealt the last few days by a band of idiots, and my quote was aimed at these people.
I had never heard of this admin and yes i know some play under different names ect and I do not think I know everyone but this "admin" asked me questions like whats my email to prove who I really was ,to me this shouldnt matter who I am but what my quote was.My question is really how far can I go in asking an admin to prove him/herself..I really doubt this particular one was an admin as he grumbled about where he was placed when I asked him to prove it,he also said a few other things I wont mention that I do know are not correct about admins. He asked me to wait there and he'd come back and show me he was really one..he never returned ofcourse ( and yes i got the IP) Although I didnt really believe him it did make me feel uneasy wondering if he was going to come back and prove a point. So is it ok,especially with whats been happening this last week to ask for admins to prove it?
I hope this was alright to post in here and If its not appropriate to answer here please pm me

Yes this has been discussed elsewhere and the simple answer is all usernames are permitted but players are not violating by voting if offended. That said my personal advice would be to wait until said players actually break the rules so that an admin can deal with them.

I don't know any admin who would ever ask you to change your quote or ask for your email address as proof of who you are. Any admin can underline and bold their text to prove their credentials. This sounds like some PITA impersonating an admin so feel free to feedback the details.
I had two of the most annoying idiots in one room. They had been warned for using words, so the rest of the time they were in the room, they would warn anyone for a hint of a letter and mockingly type "OMG WORDS! THAT'S SO BAD. UR SO EVIL." They would also constantly put unrelated words in their draws, resulting in the same idiotic voting and banter. We eventually kicked them for warning so many people.
Then there was the bottom-boxer that had the nerve to ask why everyone kept guessing tab and why he never got his points. When we told him to actually press tab, he asked why. gah. damn PITA n00bs!
For me PITAs include regular players. Everyone has pretty much mentioned all the newbies and random crazy people and their weird little habits, but nobody has mentioned regular iSketch players. Yep, they too are PITAs!
On numerous occasions I have noticed regular players behave like hypocrites. They do this by booting out randoms/newbies for swearing, yet these regulars do it themselves. How can you boot out someone for doing what you do? Do these regulars think just because they play more a different set of rules apply to them??
I dislike swearing so sometimes I ask the regulars and the randoms not to swear. They apologise, but obviously at a later date if someone annoys them or they don't get a word, they swear again.
Another bunch of PITAs are those regulars that draw porn. You want porn? Go to a user created room. Again, you skip and boot out newbies/randoms for drawing porn, but what about the regulars who draw porn? You gonna boot yourself out? Are you willing to boot out your friends? No, you just gang up on the people you don't know, don't bother correcting each other
My final bunch of PITAs are those regulars who gang up on randoms/newbies for no reason and say things like "omg, so-and-so, I don't think n00b-123 knows who we are, LMAO!"
Are you implying that by playing the game a lot, you're someone special?? Should the newbies/randoms fear you??
If I had a penny for every time I witnessed the above things...
So yeah, those are my PITAs, now I just leave the room whenever any of the above happen.
/me hugs all the genuine newbies/randoms out there who are victims of the regular PITAs
AJ you might want to read through the "regulars thread" (http://www.isketchforum.net/regulars-t1808.html) I started a little while ago

AJ-chan, please don't eat me . I did draw porn that time when i got words like "cock" or "sucker" (well, only in Connections Room).
*ICHI runs to user created rooms to draw...
you skip and boot out newbies/randoms for drawing porn, but what about the regulars who draw porn? Are you willing to boot out your friends?
For some reasons I tend to be more relax in special rooms. Be it friends or random or newbie, i sometimes close one eye if i saw them drawing porn for "suck" or "mate". But that's only if they're drawing it cause' it's really that word.
I'll not boot people unless they cheat or being rude or constantly being a PITA. I'll not draw porn, and I'll skip anyone if they draw porn in Normal Rooms.

Self described *regulars* who want admins help only if they ask for it. It's been discussed here before and it's in the rules, personal messages are allowed in the draw but refrain from using them as they may be mistaken for part of the draw.
When these *regulars* vote on that player for skipping them for letters, it alerts the admins. I always remind both the artist and the voter of this rule in public chat. The votes against the PMs are allowed and no group of players owns any public game room. As an admin trying to assist players on a very busy game, I do not appreciate being told by *regulars* that they will do whatever thay want and my assitance is not wanted or needed so I can leave the room.
I have to agree with AJ and her comment about hypocrisy. Anyone who logs onto iSketch enough to consider themself a regular, then disses the game in any manner such as rules violations or publicly badmouthing iSketch in any manner is the worst of the PITAs IMO.
AJ you might want to read through the "regulars thread" (http://www.isketchforum.net/regulars-t1808.html) In started a little while ago

It's true, everyone has described the PITAs as being the noobs or random silly people, when in actual fact it includes the regulars too. I know others feel the same way, they just don't admit to it. I ain't scared.

AJ-chan, please don't eat me . I did draw porn that time when i got words like "cock" or "sucker" (well, only in Connections Room).

Lol ICHI, that's fine cos it's related to the word, I had to draw 'gelding' in the Expert room the other day and for those of you who don't know it's a castrated horse, I was waiting ages for someone to get it, but in the end I drew a tiny penis and put a red cross over it. Then Fender got it :D
I've even had the word 'clitoris' in the science room, after that, I never went back there again!
I'll not boot people unless they cheat or being rude or constantly being a PITA. I'll not draw porn, and I'll skip anyone if they draw porn in Normal Rooms.
Well, unfortunately, when regulars feel like being naughty they just draw random penises all over the canvas, they think it's ok for them, but when a random does it, they skip and boot them. It's all about hypocrisy. They should just play fair.

* *AJ*;97240 hugs all the genuine newbies/randoms out there who are victims of the regular PITAs
Can we add regs who constantly say "read the rules!" to people when they blatantly haven't read them themselves (or have forgotten them).
There's been loads of times I've seen people give syllables for a one letter part of a word (by drawing an eye to denote the letter I etc) when the rules clearly say not to do this.
You may not draw the syllable/part if it's only 1 letter. Leave it blank and concentrate on the others.
When you tell people this they don't seem bothered either....

That can be really annoying; there was once me and Lemon wanted to play Big Picture. We went to the room, invited a couple of other people who were interested and after 1 - 2 minutes the room was full of greys..... so we could say goodbye to getting any new people who had the intention of playing, the room was effectively locked with 4 players.

You'll find that /invite overrides the room limit so you can still get more active players in there

Yes, I know how to invite people. Not everyone would want to play BP though, and I'm more talking about people who would actively want to come in, people we don't know. Heaven forbid someone new should come in to a room:rolleyes: Being grey in a normal room is one thing, it's much more annoying for a room like BP.

Well, technically the i in ideal is a diphthong. So would it be all right to draw an eye then?
Well, technically the i in ideal is a diphthong. So would it be all right to draw an eye then?
LOL, good one, Nay! Only the representation of a dipthong is with 2 sounds (to indicate the how it's pronounced in the beginning and end), but it is still a monosyllabic vowel.

No because it's ONE letter as the word is written.
You could, as far as I know, split ideal into the "id" and "eal" parts for sounds like hide and sounds like eel. (edit: unless you don't pronounce it the same way I do, then you can't.....)

Well, I don't want to be a grammar fanatic, but how is the i in ideal a diphthong? I thought diphthongs had to be two blended vowel sounds like the "oy" in boil?
i·de·al (ī-dē'əl, ī-dēl')
Anyways, doesn't matter, because like others pointed out, it is one syllable.

Ooh, I just thought of another regular PITA!
There are some regulars who are always on away in a room, don't ever draw, guess or even chat! Ok, after a few days they play, but you get the idea...
The other day I went into a room and a regular voted to boot out some random who was on away for about 3 hours by that time, iirc.
Why they heck did that regular vote to boot them out, when they have a friend who is always on away?
The person was simply on away, they didn't talk to the regular, didn't abuse them, didn't call them names, didn't draw porn, didn't swear or anything else! Maybe that person just went afk ages ago and totally forgot they had iSketch up, maybe they fell asleep, but what gives them the right to boot them out?!? Not the first time I've seen it either!
Again, do you think you're special cos you play more?!?! If so, Think again!!
/me mutters 'poopooheads' under her breath and moves swiftly on...

I completely agree with you NoHints, but what I just described is pure hypocrisy. I can relate to what you said because I happen to like Two Words Big Pic UK, but not many people go there. There was this one day in particular when a couple of regulars offered to come and play a few games with me, but they invited the rest of iSketch who hated TWBP and in the end there were about 18 people in there all on away
/me left after that and has never bothered mentioning TWBP to any regulars since!

Edit: As for "ideal" ... doesn't it sound exactly like "I deal"?
Pain In The Ass.
It was initially called types of n00bs, but it was changed because not all newbs are n00bs and definitely not all newbs are pains. Debate over whether a newb and a n00b is the same still continues. Just to be politically correct.

who guesses just one word in the chat box
and doesn't bother guessing in the game box

Oh, thanks... makes total sense now. LOL
My PITA for the day - people who vote you for drawing in one stroke in a normal room. OK, I know it's not the most common way of drawing in those rooms, but getting voted for it? It was only one time for goodness sakes!
Aww, well that's not fair Vik! :(
I know some people vote to skip if someone's canvas has been white for too long, they think the player has fallen asleep. How silly.
Hello? It skips the player if they're afk, so why do they need to vote?
I'm assuming you took a while to do that one stroke, so they thought you were asleep so voted to skip you. That's a silly PITA who just doesn't know the game very well at all.
I was just playing in Big Pic, skipped someone for letters and then got a vote out the room
Oh yes, had abuse thrown at me too, they thought I was a bloke, judging by what they called me, lol.

I was in the room yesterday with Vik when she got skipped for a one stroker. It didn't even take her long, lol. The time it takes for someone to fall asleep and get skipped for that is much longer. People do get impatient, sadly. But I guess all we can do is tell them that it's not a violation, and that they just need a bit more patience. :/ It is funny seeing them say "Ooh, nice picture" when they see the one stroker (after having voted it), lol!
One type of PITA that definitely annoys me are those that cannot guess someone's drawing so they start to skip the person who is drawing towards the end of the draw. I've seen this far too often, and sometimes the drawings are actually on topic, but we simply don't understand it until the timer goes. *sigh*. Like a few days ago, someone drew a farmer, and none of us got it. Someone voted to skip, but once it got to the end and the word was revealed, I let out an "ooooooh". Duh XD
AJ.. I have people calling me a "he" and "man" far too often. Ms. Ms. Ms. I have a Ms in my name. Quite worrying

That happened to me, too! And they were iSketch REGULARS. The room was Animals (Easy). I reported the incident to an admin (she uses this forum ) ASAP, but by then I was voted out of the room and she told me she could not do anything about it since there was no proof for her (she didn't witness it), and the incident was already over. The regulars told me that they "always" use letters, and because they're regulars in that room and "always" draw letters, then it's OK for them to continue, and it would be OK to boot me out of the room! :( To make the rules clear for me, since they were regulars and confusing me by telling me they were right and I was wrong, I even asked the admin questions (must have been a pain for her) to make sure who was right and who was wrong in this case. I ended up being right. Still, justice was not served in that case. :P
It's also happened to me with not-so regular users, who told me that it was "just a game" and "but idk how 2 drw it" and all these other excuses.
Wake up people. It's game, but it's a game with rules! There is even a message at the beginning of each artist's turn that says "NO LETTERS!"

Uh that's bad. When in doubt sketches, screencap the conversation and their IPs, gather evidence. Ask around, see what the resident admins think. Or just email the evidence to feedback.

Although saying "letters are NOT allowed" also adds to incorrect voting. Letters can be used for equations and roman numerals (and personal messages:rolleyes:). If someone votes to skip for any of these reasons then "it says NO LETTERS" is often their response.

I was just in a room yesterday and I was so upset by how rude some people can behave, that I had to leave. The artist at the time was taking a second to look up the word. I respect this because they decide to use the dictionary button instead of drawing a wrong word, or writting the letters. Then comes the aggrivation. Someone votes to skip them because they're a "lame-o" and they're taking too long. When we tried to explain that there was no violation she simply stated that she had a PhD and we were all wrong. Ohh and I dropped out of school when I was 12 and had my brothers child....

People say it's a part of the "strategy" of the game, but I believe it's done more so for favoritism and overall rudeness than strategy. The only acceptable use of the "DONE" button is when there are idle people and all the active participants have guessed the word correctly. Many a times have I, and others been foiled by some kid who writes the word, and when someone quickly guesses it, hits the "DONE" button so no one can skip him. Even though you can boot him afterwards, rarely do people go along with a boot unless they're being racist, or drawing porn. Your opinions?
My opinion is that it's very annoying when people press done just as you were typing the word! It's one of the few things that actually irritates me about the game.
HOWEVER! This is not a bootable offense. I am sure an admin will be able to confirm that. The done button is part of the game, people are entitled to use it, no matter how much we cry 'not fair!' If you boot someone on the grounds of pressing 'done' you could be punished for vote abuse. Drawing anything racist or pornographic is a fair enough reason to boot, but not just for pressing done!
The done button is there for players to use as and when they choose. If they are playing to win the game it's a perfectly legitimate strategy tool to ensure the win. As for players who violate the rules then use the done button to avoid getting skipped ?? I would certainly be in favour of booting them as they have proved their violation is deliberate and their use of the done button is calculated.

Awwwwwww, MrsS, you promised to never mention this conversation between us again if I apologised.....

I peronally think the "DONE" button only has its use when the majoirty have guessed the word, but yet the timer still ticks away because someone is "AWAY" from their pc (a grey person lol). Its the only time I ever use it.
Same here (usually). However, like BB said, it is a strategy you can use to win.
I have hit done when I know there are cheaters in the room who cannot be booted because it's either a room with newbies or just people who prefer to smack/swear at/argue with the cheaters. Or when there are no admins about to boot/ban the cheaters for a bit.
So to prevent the cheaters from winning I use the done button. Call me stubborn or whatever you want, I ain't letting a worthless cheat win.
What's the point of even cheating? I still don't understand it

I'm not fond of the done button, but I definitely don't threaten to boot someone out of the room for simply using it (when they don't violate the rules). I've seen plenty of people threaten to boot, and sometimes boot for that. Which, as we know, isn't allowed. But in the case of someone actually writing their word out, and hitting done when one person has got it, so that they don't get skipped by everyone in the room.. I just boot. Sometimes people don't boot for that (like you said).
could I ask all n00bs to read this next line correctly and carefully assuming they can read.
YES ALL AGES including 36 yr olds AND beyond:razz::razz:
What about the people who aren't newbies? Poor newbies being generalised as people who don't read things (I didn't read the rules or info on isketch, until months after being on iSketch, lol). How about "could all people who assume iSketch is a kids game read the following line". Not having a go or anything. It's just that I'm 23, and I've had loads of people comment that I'm too old for the game, and I have to say the majority haven't been Newbies. They are just younger people than myself who think I'm too "old" for the game. And think it's a kids game. I remember one person commenting that they had been on the game for 6 months, and still classed it as a kids game. O_o I'd have thought by then that they'd notice it isn't.
If someone says I'm too old, I usally say, "iSketch was originally made for adults. It is designed and managed by an adult, not a kid. If you have a problem with adults playing, then you don't have to play it". It's worked like a charm every time, lol. Most of the time I don't get a response. And I have to say I've never received a bad response for saying that. Maybe I've been lucky :P
Oh, weird, it renamed itself to the thread I merged instead of retaining it's own name... oh well, fixed now!
Normally if someone presistantly presses done, I let them know I don't really like the strategy. I recently had someone tell me 'but that's what you're supposed to do!' as in they really thought that was how to play, rather than being a strategy.

I sometimes get the impression that some people think they are supposed to press "done" when they are finished drawing, as the name of the button would imply. The rules do say that "You have the option to conclude the game as soon as one player has guessed the word, by pressing the "DONE" button." It is annoying though.
If I get ahead of someone because of a done hitter, I usually let them catch up in the next round. Although certain people no longer get this privelage as they don't return the favour:twisted:
