Today is US Presidential Election Day (if you didn't know that already :razz:)

Just a quickie poll (which will close in one day - grrr... forgot to post this yesterday :sad: though in fairness, I am pretty 'polled out' - nudge, nudge, wink, wink @ Saffron :razz: )

I'd say Obama is going to win..
But everyone said Al Gore was going to win the last one. And that went wrong.. in a weird way O_o (Still think something dodgy happened..)

It's just that the American government feel they 'run' the world and own the world. They make decisions for other countries and force them to do things, etc. Just tired of it all :(

Obama has been leading all the recent polls and is the clear favourite to win. If he doesn't, expect a much bigger uproar than Bush/Gore 2000!

Pretty apt, considering the Diebold (or whatever they call themselves now, due to bad press :rolleyes: ), voting machines are/were hackable, buggy (ie you vote for A, and it thinks B), unverifiable, and don't/didn't produce paper audit trails...

Hopefully in 2008, it won't be as bad as 2000/2004...


Also Disnfranchisement, with all the people queuing to vote... surely the lessons of 2000/2004 would have been learnt in those (mainly poor) districts by now... more voting stations required... or am I missing something?

I agree. Although i would like Obama to win and feel he will try and do the right things.......at the end of the day it's the American goverment and they'll probably advise him to make the wrong ones!

and phooey, :( not all americans are terrible. :( makes me feel like you all are saying that when you say the govt'll make the wrong decisions. (although they have made some bad ones in the past) :'( but technically our govt was elected by us..(not me -_- too young) so i dunno.... and its not as if the entire govt forces the pres to do what they want, its really complicated -_- believe me, i have to take a class bout it.

Well personally I voted for McCain. I am quite nervous about how our country will turn out with Obama as president but there is nothing that can be done about it so I may as well deal with what was dealt.

Neither of the candidates were good though honestly. It was like choosing to be stabbed with a dull knife or a fork. They would both hurt and both do a lot of damage....thats how I felt about this election. I just had to choose which I felt would do the least damage and I felt like that would be McCain....oh well.

And to see the poll where if the world could vote does not make me feel any better. Personally if the world thinks we should have Obama I think that is a bad thing. Because as some of you have ALREADY said on here the world sees the USA as a threat....so of course they would want the weaker choice for us.....just my own personally thoughts. =/

All that said I have to say I am proud of our country! This certainly was a historic election and I think it is awesome that we have our first African American president. A congrats is definitely in order for Obama.

I also agree that perhaps neither candidate was perfect for office, but then again who really is? Personally, I voted for Obama, but my family was split on the matter. I thought his speech was EXCELLENT btw.

We're in pretty bad economical shape here in the U.S. and stuck in unwanted wars, so no matter who was chosen, they definitely have a long road ahead of them and they're definitely going to face criticism for basically whatever they do because many Americans are so fed up with the government already. People are also negative already, making comments like "Let's move to Canada" now that Obama has been elected and what not. I find this just childish. He deserves respect, as any human being does, and a fair chance to bring about the positive chance that he has advocated all along. I sincerely hope he can!

I am glad Obama won out of the two, because I have some very fundamental disagreements with several of McCain's ideas.

Now, I don't think Obama can quite handle the situation the country will be in when it's handed over to him. It's no easy task for anyone, and especially not him. He has not really said how he wants to do the things he wants to do, and simply shouting "Change!" is not going to make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. You'll need some really tough policies that'll probably make you unpopular with either business or the people, or even both to get the US back on track. You've got the economy, the deficit, the war (which are obviously very strongly related), and then I think there's a something that needs to be done in health care. And I personally don't think that can go together with a tax cut for 95% of the workers!

But I may be too left-wing (economically) for the US ;)

That wouldn't take too long... :p But seriously I think in 20 years' time, people will look back at him with a kind of reverence, like a lot of people do now for Reagan and Thatcher even though they were despised by many at the time.
